Yeah I just decided to devote the entire month to reviewing the C&C series, just to get it done. It's been pretty exhausting, honestly. I'm probably going to take a break from RTS's for a while after this... As far as the next "full series" goes... well I have some reviews done already that fit that bill. You'll find out what those are in due time of course. It's even an FPS series. After that I'm just going to be cleaning up what I've already started for the time being. To give you an idea... we're talking stuff like Risen 3, Hotline Miami 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and so on. But as far as what full series I might tackle after that goes... I dunno. If you have a suggestion feel free to throw it my way.

Nope. Need a recording device to review GR2 since it's on Xbox and I don't have anything in the series newer than that yet.

I dunno about "good," but Tiberium Wars is at least the only one that really gets away with what it does after Generals.

It's the definitive way to play C&C: Generals, really. Actually makes it something unique rather than "just a standard RTS of the early-mid 2000's."

+DWTerminator yea exactly, also it looks like they expanded the Generals idea in UAW, there each faction has 3 hero units, which are divided in classes like; assault, stealth and tactical.

Haven't played the original Might & Magic series yet. The HoMM games aren't particularly bad but I don't really get anything out of them, personally.

DWTerminator Out of the Heroes games, what ones are the ones you would say are the best? I saw your video on them, but unlike you, i am somewhat a virgin to the TBS and RTS game genres, so i don't think the simplicity will be a problem for me. The only RTS i have ever played is AOE2, and i have never played a TBS game.

HoMM3 is the best one in the series. That's about it thus far. I have yet to play HoMM6 though.

"Slower-paced" isn't really a thing with RTS's. Total War is fairly slow-paced, but it's turn-based strategy with real-time battles.

Grey Goo is on the slower end of traditional RTS games, but if you're fine with something a bit less conventional, the Total War series is a pretty good place to look. I would go for Medieval 2 if you were to try those.

Age of Empires, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War, to name a few.

Dawn of War is a little bit too slow for me....especially when playing as the Imperial guard on campaign where you can zergrush the enemy before they can build anything with guardsmen

Business model, I think. Making an RTS F2P is a *terrible* idea. Look at how Age of Empires Online turned out...

Oh God...Age of Empires Online was a mistake. But Gameplay wise i think CnC Generals 2 was good, unlike AoE Online...

The problem is, that EA stopped working on it. I'm pretty sure Generals 2 could have become an awesome game, but we will never know...

First thing was that they changed the business model during the summer of 2013 to F2P and removed the campaigns, even after it (campaigns) was brought up a lot during the community event in LA in December 2012. After the huuuuuuuuuuuge backlash that got, they decided to make singleplayer missions/campaigns again, but the damage had already been done in that regard. The gameplay wasn't exactly good either....yet. It could have been with time if the thing hadn't been cancelled (noticeable improvements during alpha/beta versions), but the alpha testing wasn't particularly good. It was really clunky, the pathfinding was some of the worst I had ever witnessed and they had to remove fighter and bomber aircraft for the summer 13 build, because back in December 12, they were frigging support powers. You build planes, wanted them to attack something (by pressing a button that then made it possible for you to actually attack something) and they would fly off the map and then spawn in from the opposite side of the map and do a bombing run and you had no control over them at all. All of those issues alone was born from Frostbite more or less being forced upon them. Most of the development time alone was spent on just making the engine be capable of running an RTS. But the whole F2P mess was a death sentence. There was no way they could get the revenue needed from that business model in an RTS. AoE online and CoH online failed for a reason and yet EA upper management for some reason thought it was a great idea.

well, generals is my favorite C&C title and is also one of the best RTS games i've ever played. I know, that it has another gameplay and is much faster than other C&C games, but thats the reason why I like most (I prefer fast RTS games, where you need to do fast decisions). The balancing of the 3 factions + 9 generals is well done. You have no useless or weak general, if you know how to play them. However it's greatest potential comes with online machtes. They are very funny, and I had the time of my life there, fighting against pro players in 1vs1 to 4vs4.
