If you’ve been following the blog and the KZfaq channel you know we’re customizing a new campervan. One of the most important elements in a small living space like our 2017 Ford Transit is ventilation. If you don’t have your enclosed living space properly ventilated, it can lead to small concerns like smells lingering, bigger issues like condensation, or large problems like mold and all kinds of other problems. Choosing a good vent fan is key.
For this new van build we opted to install a Dometic Fan-Tastic Vent, Model 7350, and I’d like to thank Dometic for sponsoring this post. Their support helps keep the blog and the KZfaq channel running and for that I’m grateful.
Dometic Fan-Tastic Vent 7350
We decided to go with Dometic on this installation because the company has a great reputation for quality products and these fans get great reviews on forums and chat boards.
We wanted a fan with varying speeds, and one that would bring air in as well as exhaust it out; so that we can get cooling effects and push out cooking smells. The other key component for us in making our choice was having a vent fan that has a rain sensor. The Dometic Fan-Tastic Vent does, meaning it will automatically close when it detects rain. It also has a screen meaning no buggy nights!
It’s actually got a few more features than that, which we’ll look at after we get it installed.
What will a Dometic Fan-Tastic Vent do?
Fan-Tastic Vent will exchange the air in your vehicle in minutes. Cooking smoke and unpleasant aromas are whisked out of the cabin and apparently the Fan-Tastic Vent can reduce the need for air conditioning, since it brings in fresh outside air.
Installing Dometic Fan-Tastic vent model 7350
I’m going to say right off the bat that we are not professionals. I’ll be sharing our experience and how we opted to do this after we did our research. If you have questions about installation or concerns with doing it yourself, you should get help from a pro.
The fan fits a standard 14 in. x 14 in. ventilation opening. Since we were doing a conversion, we didn’t really have that, so we had to make our own but cutting a 14” hole in the roof of the Ford Transit. Intimidating!? Sure is! You get one shot at it so you’ve got to measure carefully.
Next up we primed the metal to prevent rust then laid butyl caulking tape around the edges to seal the opening. We dropped the Fan-tastic fan into the opening, and screwed it in with self tapping screws. With all that done, a good round of self-leveling sealant went all around the edges and was then left to cure up.
Then just connect the two wires and you’ll have airflow!
Dometic Fan-Tastic vent model 7350 Features:
Rain Sensor and manual override
The Dometic Fan-Tastic vent model 7350 has a rain sensor that automatically closes the dome when moisture is detected. There’s also a built in manual knob which lets you close the dome in the case of power loss.
Variable speeds + In & Out direction
The powerful fan motor quickly moves air in and out of the cabin, and there’s 14 different speeds so you can set the level that is just right for you. It’s nice to set it on ultra low overnight to keep condensation building up when you sleep and the quiet motor won’t keep you awake.
There’s a reverse switch that changes the direction of the fan blades, drawing air in or out of the vehicle, depending on your needs.
Thermostat control
Dometic Model 7350 has a built in thermostat to help you maintain your desired temperature. Just set it to what you want and the fan will automatically turn on and off to keep temps constant inside the vehicle.
WIRELESS REMOTE
A convenient feature even in a small space is a remote. It allows you to adjust the fan from the comfort of the bed if it gets too hot or cold overnight! The remote is battery operated and comes with the necessary two AA batteries and with a wall cradle so you’ll always have a place to store it while in motion. You can do almost anything right from the remote including opening or closing the vent, adjusting the speed or temperature or the airflow direction.
Overall thoughts on Dometic Fan-Tastic vent model 7350
Overall we’re really happy with this vent. It has all the features we were shopping for, it was pretty easy to install, once you get over cutting a hole in your roof.
It works exactly as it should and the rain sensor keeps us dry and the van safe from water getting in accidentally.
If you’re looking for a way to add airflow to your campervan or RV we can definitely recommend the Dometic Fan-Tastic vent . The prices vary wildly depending on where you are but it generally sells for about $500-600 bucks.

I need to say that my experience with the fan is anything but fantastic. I bought mine a year ago, as friends, who have an older model, said it was great. However mine makes a lot of noise and pushes so little air that I can barely tell if I have it set to blow the air in or out of the van. If I turn it up to get more airflow it becomes even noiser! The rain sensor closes the vent at night so I can only assume that it senses the night time moisture and closes even though it is not raining. My friend's older model seems to push more air than my newer model.I get much better & quieter airflow from my little Sirocco fan and it was only $!60 not over $600.So in summary, I have found it an appalling fan that is just not worth the money.

Sounds like you got a bum unit. Did you reach out to them for warranty or help?

Your Canadian Amazon link is not for the 7350 ....rather it is for the 1200 which is far cheaper and not the same features as the 7350.

Hi! I’ve purchased the 7350 model and my father has installed it for me. He’s a retired electrical engineer so I’m sure he has it wired correctly. Issue is the remote isn’t working. He says it has continuity but it simply won’t work. Any insight? Apparently there isn’t support for this expensive item. 👎🏾
