I own a Dyson DC14(upright) and just ordered the DC 39(canister)! If you have a lot of carpet or deep pile carpet, I would go with an upright! If you have little carpeting and mostly hardwood, linoleum, or tile; I would go with a canister! Of course, if you have stairs and have a lot of things to vacuum beneath(beds, tables, couch,ect), go with a canister. A canister is SO versatile to allow for various cleaning options up high or down low, without adding weight or the feeling of being inconvenient, which is why I have decided to purchase one even though I have an upright....Don't forget to use the right attachments for the specific job to see the best results with ANY vac.

Just an fyi (if not mentioned already) : The push down button on the handle is used to stop and start the rotor. It's recommended to briefly push down firmly and release the button to stop the rotor when moving from carpet to flooring. Push down briefly again and release to restart the rotor when back on a carpet. Hope that helps.

Very easy to assemble Recommened, and only attachments I've used so far work well, and are easy to use. Doing a good job on the new carpet in my bedrooms and stairs. Works well on the hardwood on my main floor too. Reasonable weight and cord length. I already knew from an earlier review that it wouldn't fit under furniture, but I can use my Eufy for that, so no problem - the high traffic areas that need a stronger suction was really what I bought this for. If it continues as it's started, it will be a good buy and well worth the money. I have had two Shark Rocket stick vacs in the past that are super easy to use, but the motors just don't last well, even with scrupulous cleaning of the filters. I'm hoping for better with this Bissell.

Great Review! Do you know if you can attach the tools without the long straight pipe? I find doing dusting or upolstery very annoying with the long pipe of my upright and wondering if the canister would allow for a short handle.

Is this worth the upgrade from my Dyson DC38 and how does it stand up to the competition from the much cheaper Vax vacuum cleaners? I know there are alot of Dyson fanboys out there due to its brand power but I hear Vax has gained alot of marked share recently due to its high production rate. What do you think, Vax or Dyson?

I've got the full-size Dyson Ball. It's so functional and I love it to bits. I know that some people swear by VAX cleaners, but I think Dyson tech really is the best.

My cousin, who is elder like me, has a DC39 & loves it; best she ever had. I am appalled at some of the disparaging remarks about it here. Great review (although unexpected), I've been looking for a vacuum cleaner but one of my major concerns is the loudness. I tend to vacuum at very random hours (because my work schedule changes) and even during the day, there's usually somebody asleep. Noise is something that I wish was minimal, so how loud is this one? I have the DC39 animal canister vac, it is the 2nd Dyson I've owned. (my husband traded the upright for a Kirby, that quit after 8 months). I LOVE Dyson, they are the best I've ever used.

I recently purchased a refurbished model. I am looking at reviews/videos now because I'm not sure that mine is working properly? The brush doesn't spin until I get close to a wall (where the carpet goes down a little).. Does this mean my carpet is too tall?.. Or is something wrong with my vacuum?? I was so excited about buying this! It has picked up a good bit of dirt/dust, but like he said in the video, pieces of fuzz stayed on the floor. A little disappointed right now.

I have this vaccuum it does clean well. It does not have a long cord as this man states. I empty mine in the garage trash can. The cleaning head does not fit under my chairs or couch. I agree with others that I do not like the price. I did buy it at Sears, you get to try all the vaccuums there. It was $20 off and I received at Sears/Kmart gift card rebate for $90. at the time of purchase no forms to fill out. That made me feel a little better about the price.

It's all about Tech, so why not? I have to vacuum my place, lol. Good review, Soldier! I have the Dyson Animal. I paid around $550.00 fours years ago. Great vacuum, but it is a nasty job when the container gets clogged with hair! This vacuum will suck up a cat or small dog if you're not careful, lol. Thumbs up! 

@sordel i've had my dyson dc13 for 7 years now and have never had an issue with it and my friends haven't had issues with thiers. Skb isn't the only person that didn't know about the "issues" dysons have. Thanks for the info tho. I will look into it for any future dyson purchases but as i said, after 7 years i don't have a single complaint:-)

A very well designed vacuum cleaner that is made out of inexpensive materials. ot a durable vacuum, and getting parts is hard. but a well designed machine that has lots of good features.

I like this dyson and it works well but it works so much better with the power head. this review was made before that model was invented but if you're considering buying one of these today please take that into consideration. it works better than a lot of canister vacs however I think to maximize the cleaning power you must have a power head

I don't know where to start with this. Stylish and sexy? It's a featherweight workhorse that can be used by a granny in a wheelchair or an 8-year-old kid. It boldly goes where no vacuum has been in years (I don't move furniture). And it dusts, too, which is a task I loathe. It's expensive because it's worth it. Wish I'd had one years ago. I would've had so much more time to play.
