You should try more British boots. My personal favorite is Crockett and Jones - Islay, but Coniston is also great. It’s difficult to top British shoes when it comes to men’s shoes.

Had my Stow boots for 24 years and love them. The leather soles of course eventually wore out, and I replaced them with Vibram commando rubber soles, which I much prefer as the leather soles were pretty heavy. Anyway, the uppers are better than ever and I expect to wear them for another 20 years, or whenever my great-nephew is big enough to fit them!

thats so cool! i just bought my first one! they are indeed the only boot i've worn that's super comfy from the get go. The only thing i'm worried about is the substantial vertical room in the toe box. Or to be more specific the "cone" area (the on top of your foot where the foot shape naturally curves downward past the ball). Is that just the way the shoes are supposed to be or do i just have thin feet?

I bought a pair of these in the UK around 6 months ago (I live in England) I chose a pair with Dainite soles. Although expensive I have found them to be comfortable, practical and they have earned me more complements than any other item of footwear I own. If you are on the fence I hope this makes your choice a little easier.

Love Tricker's boots so much that I own about 4 of their boots and 3 of their shoes. I wear them all the time as my go-to standard footwear. In terms of quality and comfort they are hard to beat. I also love their silhouette. Not as clunky and unrefined as American workwear style boots, but not delicate either.

Worn Trickers for years - I have a pair of these with the dainite rubber sole and a pair of the elasticated version 'Henry', both sane colour, which i really like. 200 years of knowhow and development. Nobody makes shoes like Trickers and the handful of competitors they have in 'shoe city' - Northampton, UK. There's just something about them others just can't replicate. And they can be worn for decades before they are totally worn out and undrepairable.

I just got my first pair of trickers a few months ago, this is my real first pair of boots, I wasn’t too much into the boot world until I starting following your Chanel. I bought those as a self present for my 40s birthday and I am very happy. Very sturdy yet confortable shoe. I live in Mexico and went with the leather sole as for the weather. I have travel abroad with them and they are very confortable even for those long days in airports, BTW I like walking a lot, and no problem at all. I got a lot of compliments, and really looking forward to save money for a second pair. Those completely worth it.

@@Stridewise You mention Loake which are a very popular brand here. Their Bedale boots are similar but a fair bit cheaper at £250. The Grenson Fred can be had with a commando sole, leather sole or white vibram sole like Red Wing's Moc Toe at £250. The Grenson Fred Triple Welt is a leather sole and costs over £450, which puts it closer to the Stow boots. Tbh there's quite a lot of choice of British made brogue boots. In the same way there's a lot of choice of American made heritage boots.

Fantastic videos! I happen to love high quality, full grain leather boots and shoes as well. I have the opposite appeal to boot aesthetics. I generally feel Tricker’s, Crockett & Jones, Carmina, Cheaney, Gaziano Girling, etc., make better quality, and aesthetically, better looking boots in general, in comparison to their American counterparts. Of course, this statement can’t be substantiated across the board, as there are some good boot makers here in the States as well. Europe, has a very long history of handmade shoe and boot making. They all are a bit more expensive, but you get more for your money in most cases. Have you taken a look at some of Cheaney’s offerings? They have some very nice boots including their Jarrow boots in several different leathers. Crockett & Jones also has a very nice selection, especially their Northcote? Also, if you get the chance, and if you aren’t already familiar with Vass and Saint Crispin’s, from Budapest and Transylvania, respectively. Look them both up. You will enjoy seeing the types of boots (and shoes) each of these makers create as well. All works of art. Shoe’s and boots that are meant to be kept for a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Have a great day! Thanks for the wonderful videos!! 🌎✨

Hey Benjamin thanks a ton for your thoughtful comment! I really want to do more British boots, I keep saying this but I do! It's hard though as it's harder to make money online with them than it is when I'm targeting Americans, but that shouldn't be my only motivator, should it? :) Boots that have more European lasts, like Rider boots, I find I really like. Cheaney and Loake I want to try out. Meanwhile I think the Indonesian boots I've reviewed are kind of like reviewing European boots! Same very traditional handmade sort of approach.

I actually just bought my first pair of Tricker's on sale from a UK Retailer called END. Clothing for about $345 USD. The pair I got was a special Navy Blue Axton boot with a dainite sole that they made in collaboration with END. So far I've been extremely impressed with the QC on these, out of all the american boots I have which includes two pairs of Red Wing's, two pairs of Alden's and a pair of Wolverine's the quality of these Tricker's beats them all by a mile and they're easily on par, quality wise with my other pair of UK made boots which are a pair of Byran boots from George Cleverly's ready to wear line. Overall I'm glad I got them and I'm looking forward to buying more pairs of Tricker's in the future.

Really cool review. Glad I came across this. Just got my first pair of Tricker's Stow boots. Got the espresso dark brown. The acorn is classic and nice, but already have a pair of brogue shoes in a very simmilar colour and wanted something in a colour I don't already have. These are easily some of the most comfortable boots I have owned just straight out of the box. I use Saphir products and hit them with the renevatour and their cream and wax polishes in dark brown before I even wore them. Only 3 days worth of wear and they're already quite comfortable, no blisters. My boney ankles are notorious for getting blisters on new shoes, and I have not had that at all with these. Love the design and dark brown colour, looks especially nice with a pair of olive green cords i have. I went with the leather sole for the classic look, and compared to my Barker brogues, they feel more comfortable and flexible. I love the sound leather soles make. Just have to wear some galoshes over them as I live in Milwaukee and well, there is 3 feet of snow on the ground right now. :D

Aren't they phenomenal? These shoes are top tier. Super comfy and that whole proprietary cork mixture really does make a difference. Good luck in the snow! STILL haven't gotten any in NYC.

I’ve been wanting one since you first published this video. I wrote to their customer service department via email during the last weeks of November and have been absolutely disappointed with their customer service. I noted that I usually wear 9 eee in Allen Edmonds and 8.5 eee in Alden boots to which they simply shared a diagram of their sizing chart without further contextual assistance. I wrote back to them last week after forgetting how tragically unhelpful their initial response was so I wrote back expressing my frustration with their lack of assistance. They wrote back saying that they have no idea what a USA eee width is and left it at that. I want to purchase their fit 6 boots but can’t get a lick of help to figure out my size. I’m quite prepared to admit that a fit 6 may not fit me at all but can’t come to that conclusion until Tricker’s themselves tell me so because they are the experts. Or, so I thought.

Thanks for the vid-much appreciated. I love my Trickers. The sizing trick that works for me is if you're a Brannock E width-size down 1/2. If you're a D-size down 1 full size. If you're a C-they will be too wide no matter what :).

I have been waiting this review. You mentioned that you would be doing a review on these a couple of months back. When it comes to Tricker’s, you can often find them reduced, especially their offerings in unusual leathers, colours and soles. The acorn stow, however, is rather difficult to find at a reduced price, unless - sorry to break it to you - you find them with an unusual sole, like you have. It’s not difficult to find these with a commando sole for between £250-300, especially in a 10.5. Sometimes less. I did a quick search on eBay and found these in a more appealing leather sole for $375. I’m sure you could get a rubber toppy and toe plate on those for $20-30. As for my take on these, though not my cup of tea, I think they look quite cool. Definitely a boot for the stylish man. I have a pair of Skye boots by Crockett & Jones, which really are difficult to find for less than £500. Some would describe them as ‘loud’. I go for the more understated look, so I’m thinking of selling them on eBay. We’ll see.

Technically, the Stow and the Stow Country Boot are only available with a leather or Dainite sole right now and not a commando sole. The Malton Country Boot (which is almost identical to the Stow and is only available in a slightly darker 'C-Shade Tan')) comes with a commando sole. Trickers does have regular 'specials' though (availible through its online outlet store, which also sells the cream) and the combination of Stow, Acorn, and Commando sole is likely through that, if you are patient.

I had a pair of Stow in tan, after six months of light wear they showed up several defects. Tricker's customer service were not interested. The boots are now in landfill.

these usually have options for dainite soles on their website. also they always have boots for sale (300gpb rather than 425), usually with weird colour/sole combinations. i bought these (in burgundy), i love them. but i'm in uk where everything is cold and wet and boots look different

I had some in the antique acorn, but the colour was too bold for me, it looks nice with Stridewise's outfit, but I never felt comfortable in them. I'd seen some aged ones on people's feet around town, and they looked cool, but couldn't wait 10 years for that look. I now have the Naster Brown colour, and they are perfect for me. btw, I heard somewhere that trickers polish is just rebranded Saphir.

What happened to the old acorn antiques, James?! Hope you sold em on eBay or something!
@jm67235 жыл бұрын
@@Stridewise yep, they were popular on ebay, and made a journey from the continent to Hong Kong. Mine were a semi brogue cap toe, a bit too round; I think the shortwing medallion of the stow is nicer. Thanks for the great reviews :)

A nice trick with the new acorn leather is to use some black Saphir on them which gives them a slightly darker, antiqued look.

Thats an awesome looking boot. I dont necessarily like the colour of the boots though but they are still a good one to have in your collection. I prefer a commando sole in boots so i just like they way they are. Everything said i still feel they are a bit too expensive.

I’ve just got a pair which are the dark brown. I did not get to choose the Colour as my neighbour works for trickers and he got me a pair from the seconds department. I’m loving them and I’m currently breaking them in. Can’t wait until autumn to really get to wear them out.

They are nice but only with lighter coloured trousers! Just not the most versatile colour unlike Dark Brown or Black if you mostly walk around on asphalt in a big town or city. I’m surprised at American aversion to them! I’m surprised that many of them have that much sartorial discernment to tell whether or not they are foreign. Aside from those with a passion for menswear!

I had the boot sometime ago but returned. It is very nice boot to look at and has the country boot look. However, it is too wide for my liking. The widest part measured from the sole is 5 inch (maybe that's what fit 5 mean?), compare to my current widest boot of 4 1/2 inch - I wear E width for AE boot. Hopefully, they can build some narrower boot with the same look as stow eventually.
@Stridewise4 жыл бұрын
So you wear E in AE and these were still too wide? That's interesting, what a bummer. At least you were able to return it, I always wear my shoes for too long before realizing they're the wrong size haha, I'm always convinced the leather will stretch
@Terrigan_Reina4 жыл бұрын
It is awhile ago. I remember it kinda fits, but it just look very wide because of the welt. It was like having a mini snowshoe. But, it is a country boot after all. That wider sole area may give wearer more grip. It was a fantastic looking boot beside that.
@danitch68485 жыл бұрын
I think that the leather of these trickers is ordinary chrome tanning. Just a week ago, I tried with burford, it had a strange last - with a good width and a low instep. I had a slip of the heel and a terrible V in lacing. Usually this does not happen to me. I think the 4497 last is not for everyone.
@Stridewise5 жыл бұрын
Not ordinary chrome tanning! Very different approach. But yeah everyone has different feet when it comes to lasts.
@danitch68485 жыл бұрын
@@Stridewise I'm not sure about that. Trickers use vegetable tanned leather for lining but I have not heard that it uses upper leather different from chrome for most of its models. Few exceptions - zug grain, ollivia leather and some others. The top of my burford 100% is chrome tanned with a thickness of 1.5 ... 1.6 mm and surface dyeing (the back side is gray).
