So I got them yesterday, but unfortunately they are going back. I am devastated as I was so looking forward to finally having some. I never thought of myself as having a particularly broad foot, or a particularly high instep, but I could hardly get them on, and when I did (with regular socks) they were VERY snug, uncomfortably so, and it felt as though there was a knife pressing into my instep on both sides. The reason for this, I found, is that for some reason there is an additional row of stitching at the base of the tongue which restricts the width. If that hadn't been there, I might have possibly gritted my teeth and gone through the break-in process. As it is it would be torture. The funny thing is that I have a pair of redwing chukka boots which are the same size and in fact narrower when I compared the soles, but I can ONLY wear them with thick socks, otherwise I am sliding all over, and they are pretty much unwearable anyway as whatever I do the right boot slips at the heel and scrapes off the skin, even after a year of trying. Sorry if I sound like an old complainer, but all I want is a decent pair of boots that I can keep forever and do lots of walking in. After two disasters, I am hesitant to keep splashing out; it looks as though I am destined to keep wearing my trusty old North Face sneakers :)

@@nacekozo if you want super comfy boots try Lens boulder boots. Not as fancy as these Trickers but I can wear them all week on big jobs and they are incredibly comfortable

Try getting your feet measured properly by a reputable footwear seller

@@mowerman60 So I got the Loakes (from the authorised Loakes retailer in Manchester) and almost two years later I am still trying to break them in, in fact I've sort of given up. I made the mistake of taking them to Amsterdam with me last year as my only footwear after I thought I had conquered them - they are fine for short walks - and after a couple of hours I ended up hobbling to the nearest JD sports where I invested in some Adidas trainers - the relief was indescribable - and I have been wearing them ever since. Having now made three expensive mistakes, I'm not going to try again, as I am convinced my feet are unfortunately just not built for wearing this type of footwear :(

Mr. Canuck, is 8.5 your Brannock size or what you usually wear in American boots? I am Brannock 9.5 and usually wear 9 in US boots.

I use my karcher to clean the holes. Perfect job.

I always go down one full size from my brannock size 11 1/2 to UK size 10 1/2 and they fit fine. I also wear size 11 in Redwing boots.
