That's a pretty cool product for the Napoleon Prestige and I've also seen that TX press at HEB, but wasn't sure how burgers would hold up. Well, got that question answered, so I will be making a trip to HEB. Great vid and review!

I was surprised at how they held together. I think the trick is to let them cook on side one as long as you can before trying to flip. Only one tried to break out of the 4. The charcoal tray worked real well. As in all things it is a compromise but gives an option for those folks who only want one grill for multi purposes. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the video, it was quite helpful. Would probably also help if you showed the cleaning process and comment on how feasible this as an alternative to a real charcoal grill, given that you have to insert and remove the tray before each grilling. Appreciate your feedback!

Cleaning I just lift out the tray and dump the ashes. If any ashes got into the gas grill, I blow them out with some compressed air. It is just fine for high temp charcoal grilling but you don't have much control over temprerature since the gas grill is not very air tight. Not a replacement for a charcoal grill, but an alternative if you just want to grill something without buying a separate grill. Thanks for the question.

once you actually light the charcoal's obviously turn off the gas burners and then you can put a thin drip pan on top of the burners so no ash goes in the holes. The main issue I see with this is there is no way to shut the fire down Charcoal will just continue to burn until they are gone and you have no control of the fire there is no vents to open or close because of the cart design.
@Jeffco2
@Jeffco2 3 жыл бұрын
@@wallyj2000 agreed, you can’t shut the charcoal fire “off”, but you can’t do that with a real charcoal grill either. To save space in your yard, yet still have the option for a great charcoal tasting meal, this is a great option in my opinion.

I just tried the Charcoal Tray on my new Prestige Pro 500 to cook pizzas. It really worked great to have 1 side charcoal and the other side gas. Easy to set up and light the charcoals and the smoker adds a nice flavor. Be careful to cook safely away from your house and on flame proof flooring (not a gas grill anymore). I woke up in the middle of the night realizing I cooked on my wooden deck and went to bed with the coals still hot. Luckily no issues this time other than getting out of bed to check.

When doing a review you should also show the cleanup as this is the most important step. We all assume it will cook burgers and corn but we need to know whether ashes went all over your gas grill inside and what it was like to clean up that mess. Otherwise nice review.
@leektah354
@leektah354 4 жыл бұрын
Since the tray has holes in the bottom, my guess is the ashes make a mess inside the gas grill and is a PITA to clean up. There's a universal charcoal tray out there that looks like a much cleaner option.

Is the cleaning painful because of the ash? Also are the flavour bars not supposed to be installed? Won’t it block the burners?
@RashleysBorderQue
@RashleysBorderQue 4 жыл бұрын
Cleaning was a non issue. The drippings are burnt up or absorbed by the coals and any ash that dropped into the grill is easily blown out with air. Flavor bars are are your choice. I wanted the flames to be able to reach the charcoal. I don't have the grill anymore so can't confirm, but I believe you can leave them in if you prefer and still fit the charcoal tray above them. The tray does not rest on the burners or the flavor bars it sits on a ledge that keeps it above them. Thanks for the question.

Oh man I hate to guide you into something you may like or may not. All I can say is if you want a gas grill and from time to time you want to add charcoal and/or smoke flavor it works pretty good. Nothing can give smoke flavor like a smoker, but having this tray in the gas grill give the versatility to use gas, charcoal, wood chunks, and to grill, slow cook, sear, rotisserie, all in one pit. I really enjoyed cooking on it, but it was a demo and went back to the dealer last week. I had just too many pits on the patio and am trying to make room and keep the wife happy.

Just no way to control the temp of the charcoal. Makes it useless
@RashleysBorderQue
@RashleysBorderQue 4 жыл бұрын
Well, not useless. Lots of BBQ pits for sale today have so many air leaks that proper temp control is impossible. I agree that temp control is really not possible but if you are looking for a charcoal grilled steak, then as hot as you can get it is good to go. If you want something a little more low and slow you can do the snake method of laying out the charcoal and get a lower temp for a longer period of time. Thanks for you comment and watching the video.
