Glad I found this video as I had just bought a new air shield, Just got it charger yesterday and tested it last night, I would have to disagree with regard to the noise off the motor, as I found it quite bad and will have to use ear defenders even if I am only doing light work, I have been using an aircap for the past five years and it is much quieter.

I bought one of these two weeks ago for £189. I had to readjust the top band a few times as it was giving me a stiff neck and making me top heavy but now its much better. It would be better if the battery and filter were on your belt. The other downside is that it only protects you from dust and woodturners use solvents and aerosols. I have been working with wood since 1962 (1958 if you count woodwork at school) and dust has accounted for almost half my lungs so hopefully this air pro will protect the other half.

Just found your video. It is a very well made production. I bought the Trend in Australia. Here it costs the equivalent of 341 pounds. I am dreading having to pay for new filters. Its a good unit with strong airflow although it is top heavy and hard to get used to wearing particularly the tendency to tilt forward when you look down. Adjustments will prevent that to an extent but may also make it tight to wear. The only think your video did not mention was the level of protection offered by the face shield from flying timber bits.

I bought it from Carbatec in Australia. It is a very effective mask but it is also bulky and takes a long while to adjust to suit. Carbatec sell another much smaller mask with a belt mounted, battery operated motor that is light and easy to use. However it can fog up your glasses occasionally which the Trend won't do. It is a lot cheaper than the Trend.

Hi ,Peter since I replied to you last month I have been trying to get used to my new trend I have now found that my breath is condensing on the visor, I put it down to it being winter but it has not been that cold, I have tried my old air cap and have not had this problem, also find that the helmet tends to tilt forward when I am turning, any ideas as what the problem might be, everything is as tight as I can get it, or if anyone else has similar problem. thanks.

There is no doubt that "you pay for what you get". There is no fair comparison between the two as they are so different in price. The Trend provides an affordable solution with some minor compromises. The Versaflo, in my view, is absolutely fantastic and worth every penny. Peter

I am a little confused by his question and your response. Are you saying that the 3M versaflow is the superior product? (3M M-100 Series Versaflo Respiratory Faceshield Assembly M-107, with Premium Visor and Faceseal). It seems less expensive than the currently priced Trend unit... please let me know your thoughts as I am seriously considering this type of device. By the way, I am in Florida where it can be quite warm and humid much of the year.

Less expensive but without the respirator unit itself , the connecting tube and the filter cartridge, all those you buy separately. See: multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/781327O/3m-powered-and-supplied-air-purifying-respirator-systems-matrix.pdf

@jonniecrawford669
@jonniecrawford669 6 жыл бұрын
Andrew. I don't doubt there are problems with the Trend (I have a Versaflo, so don't know first hand). BUT saying the Evolution is "miles better" ignores the significant difference in respiratory protection offered - you're not comparing like with like. EN12941:2008 rates products by 'inward leakage' - how effective they are. Axminster 'Evolution' is TH1P, which means 10% inward leakage - in other words it's 90% effective. Trend Airshield Pro is TH2P, which means 2% inward leakage - in other words it's 98% effective. In the context of hardwood dust being toxic (see HSE WIS30) and a known human carcinogen (see COSHH Schedule 1), the difference between 10% and 2% inward leakage seems quite significant.

The only thing that put me off was on the trend website "Warning The TREND AIRSHIELD PRO is not a RESPIRATOR nor a NIOSH approved device. Using the power visor against harmful substances may result in sickness or death. This filter will not protect your lungs. Misuse may result in sickness or death. For proper use, see supervisor or user instructions." probably only to cover themselves as it isn't niosh tested but off putting non the less..

Hi Peter, thanks for your response, I put on it again a couple of times and could smelt everything during cutting(sanding,..) The face seal it doesnt fitting as you said but its a brand new. I cant see that there is any chance to be improved. The seal cant be tight more there is always a little gap and air from outside penetrate inside. And as I mentioned, the air is a pretty cold after some times, I read some reviews and a quite a lot people experienced same problem. I really want to believe that this works but I'm highly disappointed. In my opinion, It is not worth it to spend money on it because simply it is not works as it is advertised..

Thanks for the response because I was thinking they likely aren't the greatest due to their small appearance. I sent away for the helmet a few days ago and I guess I'll just have to wait and see. The Airshield is a good concept let down by poor design. The headband snaps, mine is held together by tie wraps, and the battery pack comes loose in it's mounting so it frequently sounds the "low battery" alarm. This is easily remedied by poking it with my finger. I also have a Powercap dust mask which also has design flaws. Out of the two the Airshield gets more use because it is quicker and easier to put on.

I bought mine a month and a half ago. It came with broken pieces (I think it was returned by someone else and just sent back out) It's top heavy with the battery and I can't find a fit where the shield doesn't hit my glasses. Attempts to reach Trend failed both by phone and email. I feel I wasted a lot of money.

David Enoch Hi David, I am sorry that you have had a bad experience. I did not have problems with my glasses but I agree that you have to get used to the weight. I still believe that the Trend setup is the best value in its price bracket - are you sure you got the adjustment right? Peter
@davidenoch8769

Peter, I've tried every hole in the upper band, when it starts to feel close the visor hits my glasses. If I remove them, my nose hits the shield. When I try again, and I will, I'm going to try bolstering the band that touches my brow to see if I can move the whole assembly forward. D
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 9 жыл бұрын
David Enoch If you watch the video you can see that there is a huge amount of clearance between the front visor and my glasses. Perhaps the respirator is sitting too low and therefore you need to tighten the strap adjuster that is above the head of the wearer. Peter

This is anything but a "pro" product. I've had mine for around 3 months and use it in the shop mainly at weekends. Battery life is ok BUT if you should drop or bang it, the plastic strap at the back will break at one or both hinges. The plastic should have been at least double the thickness and it would have added hardly any weight. It's really not worth the money. It's also very top heavy. Very cheap quality.

New Brit Workshop sorry Peter That’s no good, a lot of people in the industry work 12 hrs a day and then if you count an hr home and back that’s 14 hrs a day. The battery only lasts 8 hrs so it is no good at all - definitely not worth paying £200+ for a piece of junk that takes 14 hrs to charge and only lasts for 8 hrs - which means someone would actually need 4 batteries to make it worthwhile so you can take 2 to work & charge 2 while you are at work. Which really is not really practical. Furthermore how strong is the helmet? Whilst wearing it you obviously can’t wear a hard hat on top of it which means the minute Health & Safety rock up on site I would be told to take it off. While I do like the idea I do think it needs updating to Lithium Ion batteries and than bringing the helmet up to the same standard as a hard hat. A lot of batteries on site now take 20 min to charge and last for hrs so really I think it is ridiculous to pay such a fortune for a piece of junk that’s been fitted with an outdated battery. I for 1 will not be buying this rubbish but I will however wait until what I have suggested to happen before I consider buying one. Furthermore whilst I can afford it I do think it is way to highly priced compared to other FFP3 masks on the market so I would also wait for it to come done in price. I can pay like £1 -£3 for some of my Trend filters and just a little bit more for FFP3 filters.
