Airshield Pro. Good, informative review as usual Mike. When I think how quickly the simple face masks I use become impegnated with dust from my turnings, I can see how necessary a piece of kit this is.

It is a very good piece of kit Peter, the JSP Powercap is well worth considering too, less effective filtration, but more comfortable.

Hi Mike, Airshied Pro.I am a new to turning woodworker who found out the hard way that lathes can be very dangerous. I was turning a big piece of wood much faster than was safe when it came off and hit me in the face. I was using a full face mask but even with that on I lost 6 upper teeth and had to be taken to hospital with concussion. I now keep the speed down and am very wary of anything I turn. I live in the UK and it is nice to have something where only UK can enter as it is usually the other way around.

According to reviews on the internet, one problem is the possibility of overcharging the battery. Apparently the charger is not a smart charger and does not automatically stop charging after the battery has reached full. Have you had any problems with this issue? Thanks from Canada

Excellent review. I did buy one from snainton woodworks, at their event last September, at a price I couldn't ignore. It certainly is an excellent respirator but what medium impact resistance protection actually means I don't know, short of throwing a brick at it😃😃😃 Thanks James

How about buffing out scratches in the face shield ? Have you done that on any plastic face shield with success ? I need to buff out the scratches on mine and looking for advice.

Never had to Tony, as I always have a clear membrane cover over the actual visor. I use them on the non powered Uvex as well. Hope this helps mate. Cheers Mike

Nice review Mike, thanks. One of the bugbears of battery charging is that there often is no indicator light to say that it's charging & also doesn't indicate when the battery is fully charged. How does this compare?

It gives an audible warning in the form of a constant beeping - you can't miss it. Think it lasts around 15 minutes after this but could be longer.

I appreciate the information and your review of the Airshield Pro. I am considering purchasing one but have some questions and concerns about it. I currently have a face shield with a .080" thick polycarbonate shield. I would like to have a thicker shield to give increased impact resistance. Riot gear face shields typically have thicknesses ranging from .150" to .250". Do you know what is the thickness of the shield on the Airshield Pro? Do you know if it is possible to upgrade it with a thicker face shield? Also, is it possible to replace the NiMH battery with a Lithium Ion battery with an appropriate charger?

Hi Ed, I use my Evolution respirator most of the time as it is much more comfortable, the trade off is the filtration of the Trend is slightly better, so good extraction at the lathe is needed too.

Mike have you compared this with slightly more expensive Axminster APF 10?

The JSP is comfortable to wear without any adjustments needed, the Airpro, being a heavier unit does need some time to get right, but once achieved is comfortable as well. The difference is the stand alone filtration capability, the Airpro is APF20, whereas the JSP is APF10. I must add that with good extraction at the point of dust production, and air filtration too, the JSP has seved me well for over five years. The goal of the overviews for both units was to inform people of their capabilities, in the hope it would enable a more informed decision to be made, to suit each individual situation.
