I share your opinion completely. I used to own a vintage Rolex GMT and didn't care for the size, stamped light bracelet, and could take or leave the cyclops. For my 7.5" wrist the Tudor size is perfect and I much prefer the size and color of the Tudod bezel over the new pink and blurple ceramic Rolex bezel. Tudor nailed it IMO...

Interesting video. Probably being a little tough on the £2830 Tudor to compare to the Rolex which in reality is a £14-15K watch as getting one at list is practically impossible. Even at list, its well over double the price. I love the Rolex but as with most of their sports watches, they’re getting a little blingy and are no longer the tool watches they once were. There’s no doubting the Tudor is a true tool watch.

The hairspring on the Tudor GMT is made of non-ferrous silicon while the Rolex blue parachrom hairspring is made of what Rolex calls a "paramagnetic alloy." It is generally asserted that silicon has amagnetic properties while blue parachrom has anti-magnetic properties. As a result, the Tudor movement actually has a higher degree of magnetic resistance than the Rolex movement.
@WatchHobbyist

Interesting to know, thanks for clarifying
@MrBrianc1975
@MrBrianc1975 6 жыл бұрын
I wonder actually if you'd notice any difference between the two hair springs though really. It sounds to me like Rolex were frantically searching for a way to improve their movements and came up with this clever bit of marketing. Most owners wouldn't even know what it was.
@neilglucente
@neilglucente 6 жыл бұрын
brian connolly. The difference in magnetic resistance between the two movements is probably negligible. If, for some reason, one of these watches gets magnetised, it's unlikely that the hairsprings will be affected; rather, one of the myriad other ferrous bits and pieces will be the likely problem.
@dylanglyn
@dylanglyn 5 жыл бұрын
@@neilglucente No they wont ..no matter how magnetised a cog is it will still turn at the same rate, when a hairspring is magnetised it contracts and the power increases making the watch run fast..

@@Ryansrangereport I have a rather large eight inch wrist so the 41 mm width isn't what bothers me on the regular BB's. Its the tall thick case which by design is unnecessary. The first generation black bays had a ETA 2824-2 movement which lends itself to a supper thin watch so there is a lot to work with by each designer. The in-house on the second generation isn't much different dimensionally either. They did the same with the ugly "Big Block" 70's -90's chronographs. Why Tudor feels it's part of their DNA to make tall thick cases is beyond me. It's no attractive. The only savior in the BB line is the 58.

The colours of the Rolex are garish and not refined at all, there is a great smooth transition between the burgundy and the blue in the Tudor that just works. The Cyclops has and always will break up any symmetry on a dial and is plain ugly, I'm sure the fit and finish is better on the rolex but for the price of the Rolex you could have the Tudor GMT, the BB58 and still have change for a nice dress watch

I appreciate you making this video. I'm going to have to disagree with your overall conclusion. I try to consider the original intention for these timepieces when making a purchase. The GMT's were designed for pilots. Which watch would you rather have in the cockpit? As an airline pilot myself, your review helped concrete my conclusion that the Tudor was the better watch for the mission. The Rolex is no longer a tool watch...
@WatchHobbyist
@WatchHobbyist 6 жыл бұрын
From a tool watch point of view, the Tudor is probably better, but its sheer size kills it for me. As a pilot, I'm sure you're aware of many other GMT options including the very light and thin Aerospace from Breitling etc. I am not a pilot of course, but I would imagine that the Tudor with its size and weight would start to give wrist-ache on a long flight. The Tudor should have been fitted with the BB58 case. Then you have the ultimate modern GMT.

Apparently its not much you like with the Tudor. The BB line is a heritage line. And seams your no fan of vintige inspired design? Another problems is that you are comparing a watch that cost 4000$ and not 20 000$, thats x5 the price. Next time pick something in the same pricerange and do a comparison. A fair comparison would be Eterna Konti line. Oris Divers 65, Longine heritage Legend diver. Doxa Sub 300, Zodia Sea-Wolf, Rado Captain Cook. Just a few ones. Yet another one when you comparing thicknes and weight. Tudor is rated to 200m WR. The Rolex only to 100m. So that also plays into the design of the watchcase and the thickness of the sapphire crystal.

Thoughts on this watch are that I’d still wear it, The issue with the date wheel seems a bit of a worry, though I’d expect Tudor to address this quickly in their quality control. For me the Tudor was a lot smaller than I expected, after hearing all the reviews saying it was massive. I have skinny wrists, skinnier than yours! but I'm tall and I've got big hands so it doesn't look overly massive. I like a beefier watch, 39mm is a little too small for my tastes and and 40 is even a little smaller than I'd like. 41 is my sweet spot and while the Tudor is a little thicker than I'd like but it's a trade-off I've taken for getting dial size I prefer. Personally I love the smaller indices, the bigger ones make the Rolex dial look too crowded imo :)

I'll take the overall tool watch design and overall looks of the Tudor. As of the 6 digit references, Rolex (while an excellent watch mechanically) has pushed into looking more like attention-seeking jewelry to me. The Subs and GMTs prior to the 6 digits are classics. But the oversized bezel fonts, the polished ceramic of the current series, oversized markers... none of it is to my taste personally. But that's just my 2 cents.

I think you missed the point. The comparison wasn't completely direct. It was there to state that if I only owned the Tudor, it would make more sense as a watch to me. The fact however, I've owned several GMT models from Rolex suddenly makes the watch less appealing as I see way more negative points than that of a person who has only owned the Tudor.

I think you simply prefer Rolex. That’s fine, but it’s not the only benchmark. Personally I prefer the other options finding men’s Rolex are too garish for my taste, the jubilee strap is misplaced on this watch ,women’s are fine.

Honestly even if i had the money to buy a rolex, well i do have the money to buy one but The minute someone sees it, they will try to take it from me, Rolex is like Coke Cola, lots of people dont drink it but know the product, i asked random family relatives if they knew what a tutor is, and everybody said i dont know, and everybody also knew that a Rolex is a watch not a tudor tho, even omega, is not as popular as rolex

I took the tudor over the rolex. Personal preference, i dont like a jubilee on a sports watch, i dont like the colours on the rolex or the cyclops. I think if they done a 58 in this youd probably love it.

I think your review should of come from a different angle. Review the watch and it’s short comings against the Rolex but keep in mind the price difference. Then ask what other watches come close to the Tudor for the same price. They are sister companies so there has to be a difference or they’d be the same watch. Tudor have 5 year warranty and 10 year service intervals. I think they are amazing watches and value. Compare them to a Tag with eta movements for the same money and there’s no comparison.

Tudor all day long . IMO Tudor just have much more soul than modern Rolex . My modern Rolexes lie in the box and will be sold at some point , I think they lack character.and are produced for the boardroom thus the charm just isn’t there The 58 is quite simply a superb watch.

Nonsense knitpicking. If you're gonna knitpick that much then you should emphasize on Rolex 38 hours power reserve vs 70 hours of Tudor which is way more essential than everything else you've mentioned.

Just sounds like your complaining because it’s not a Rolex clone, obviously they will hold this model back, it’s the same sort of watch from the same company at 1/3 price. If these are your gripes though, maybe you should be looking at a speedmaster in that price range.

As you have stated, this is your opinion. Respect for that. I am wondering why you even thought about the Tudor? Every positive statement that you make, is followed by 'but', which negated the statement. Tudor doesn't want a Rolex, so they made the watch they wanted to make. The relationship between Tudor and Rolex is simply a relationship. It is not identical. You clearly are up Rolex Fanboy, no disrespect intended mate, so stick with Rolex. Tudor is geared to a different clientele. They're taking chances, and want to be the watch of the people who want something different. The fact that they experiment, is what makes them so admired. I happen to own a Black Bay Harrods, and a Pepsi. Two totally different watches worn at different times. I like the fact that they are not so similar. (Not talking about the colour or the GMT function. Size and style) It allows me to put on a different watch at different times. This is not an attack on you make, and it's not meant as such. Your comparison just seems to be very biased. Cheers.

Watch Hobbyist it shows we all look for different things and very small details mean a lot in the watch world. I really like the off white lume. I like the rivet bracelet, some don’t. Some want the rose logo and not the shield. Some don’t like the gold numbers. At least Tudor normally give plenty of variations as time goes on.
