FAQ
Q) Why are there comments from a week ago when this video has just gone live today?
A) Patrons usually have early access to videos. I'll show the first version of a video on Patreon and often the feedback I get results in a video going through further revisions to improve it. e.g. Fix audio issues, clarify points, add extra footage or cut extraneous things out. The video that goes live on youtube is the final version.

I wonder if the reason for the cloud based system is to try and prevent the inevitable clones using the app. I've considered buying these a few times, but the cost always puts me off. With the appearance of copper-wire style WS2812B style addressable LEDs there's probably going to be competition soon.

Yeah, I'd want at least a PC app that can store all the data locally. It's a shame, because I love holiday lights. I've still got my Halloween fairy lights twinkling away merrily. I'd really like to be able to replace them with RGB, and at first this system looked just like what I want...but when the cloud server inevitably fails in a couple years, that'd be that for my expensive lights.
@okaro6595

I hate that when functionality that could be supported locally is done in a cloud. They could at any point stop the support. This happened to me with Eye-Fi SD cards. I fortunately found a third party alternative.

Yeah, I honestly cringe at RGB. It's one of those "they spent so much time thinking COULD they, they never thought SHOULD". I see it as so strictly adhered to a culture of new age gaming gear as well that I balk. I do like implementing the tech of RGB but as you said, I generally put 3 potentiometers on an arduino to "set" the still color as the whole rainbow mania party doesn't quite feel like christmas.... lest ye be from Vegas or something. anyways Merry Christmas! this has only been on man's opinion!

I like the mapping function, looks like the developers behind the software really thought that one out well. Not having a local based software for saving settings is a definite disadvantage though, as with many cloud services there is the danger it will either get closed down, or suddenly have a subscription in the future.

I moved to England eight years ago. Long story short, I have three children. My son (in Swindon) who I see every few months. My eldest daughter (and three granddaughters (two of which I've never even met because I can't afford to go back there) back in Wales and my youngest daughter whose son I've met once when he was having heart surgery about two years ago (at about one year old at the time). The reason I'm saying all this is because IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!! FUN TIMES FOR FAMILY!!!!! But also a time of soul destroying misery for others. Honestly and truthfully I wish you all the happiest Christmas ever cos I think we deserve that at least, but most importantly, make sure the people you love know that you do. EVERY day. NOT because you bought a card or bought an expensive gift, the unconventional way. Through showing it every day. Love you Mat and wish all of you all the (Covid permitting) best for the new year

We also have a regular 14' tree and I bought a 400 light string of twinkly lights last year to replace the stock lights. Again, it looks fantastic. Just as easy to set up as the twinkly tree. The twinkly website suggested 1200 lights to properly cover the tree, I can't imagine why anyone would use that many, total overkill. Anyway, thanks for the post, Mat. Cheers, David

I'm eagerly waiting for the day when I can finally buy DLC-s for my christmas tree up until the point where - to quote TC - the startup behind it inevitably folds and my tree gets bricked entirely. Sarcasm aside, I do like the concept, I just wish that we'd have retained something from the horrible, dumb Stone Age of actually giving out at least basic standalone softwares for various stuff.
