I'm attempting to put this together. But the secret compartment opening gear assembly is not possible to have it ligned up properly to the accent piece that goes on top

Hello, could you by chance tell me what quote it says on the lantern? Apparently it is something from Tolstoy, but I cannot find the quote and the pictures are too blurry to read.
