Brilliant cars, good spec, excellent fuel consumption and reliable. I bought a second hand HL in blue ( can't remember the proper BL name) in 1987. Owned it for 5 years, never let me down only sold it as I got a company car. Happy days!

I worked at an Austin Rover dealer from 1982 to 1991 and remember the Acclaim well. We sold loads of these the combination of Japanese reliability and hi speck and performance coupled with the flack they were quite happy to run on cheaper 2 star fuel of the time was a winning package. Performance was good due to the twin choke Webber carburettor , making short work of 1.6 fords of the time. (:

Love the Triumph Acclaim. I've had mine for just over a year now, and it's without doubt the most satisfying car I've driven for a very long time. If you can find a nice one, it will absolutely delight you. Parts availability however, not so much. Like the car in the video, mine has a gaffer taped up air intake hose as well. Nobody makes or sells them!

The boot in the Acclaim looked far more practical with those cubby spaces than my SD3. Loving the colour inside and out. I think it's high time shades of brown made a come back.

I have the auto version "triomatic" i love it ,its so smooth and easy to drive ,comfortable ,easy to fix ,its perfect and now tax exempt

Great to see this review Joe. My Grandfather had an Acclaim though I'm not sure which trim, possibly a mid spec like this one. It set the president for the next decade with two SD3's, two R8s and an HHR to follow.

The Triumph Acclaim for 1983 is ahead of its time, really just a fill in till Triumph got their own inhouse design together ❤ The Japanese were ahead with their dashboard design and appointments, plenty of parts available for twenty years from a reputable company such as Honda. Front & rear bumpers no doubt compliant with federal ( US ) specs with the exception of rear fog guard lamps which is purely EEC countries only. I would have been over the moon 🌙 had I had one back in the day of 1983 ! Love your presentation, and thanks for Honda & Triumph stepping up to the mark with twin carburetors. 👌👍💚🍺🍻🥃🌎🗽

I remember the CD model with air conditioning. Belonged to a friend of mine's dad. In 1985 AC was almost unheard of in cars besides seriously upmarket luxury ones.

These were great little cars, seems strange they were on sale next to the Allegro. Although the Acclaim looked old fashioned it would have been light years ahead in terns of driving experience and interior. My first car was a clove brown 83 Metro, it polished up really well.

Good review. I remember first seeing the Acclaim at the 1981 Motor Show with my late father. My memory of the car was it's good equipment levels. but both dad and I at 5'10 found the rear legroom poor. The collaboration between BL and Honda was very beneficial, mainly for BL and how much different could things have been if the had stayed with them.
