In this video I'm doing a #camerareview of a #usedcamera... the UGLY grade item #nikon D3 that I purchased from KEH.com.
This is my experience so far of getting yet another "seem to be" gambled item from them... and yet... they have not disappointed me.

KEH is fantastic. I buy all of my used Sony equipment from them. All of the equipment I have purchased from them has always been in much better condition than how it was rated.

Yup! I agree. I bought plenty of equipment from them and has always been rated in better condition than how it is rated. Although, like I had said, always be mindful and just set your expectation. Like if the description says there is some fungus on the lens... expect that there is fungus on the lens. But if you happen to receive it and you see little to no fungus... then you are lucky :)

Surprisingly I've heard of numerous instances where the Nikon cameras of that era( D3,D3s,D700...) have managed above 500k actuations My own D700 has approximately 450k on it.

Oh yeah man! In those days of DSLR era, they were built like tanks!! Still today I'm using my D3 and i bet its over 400k by now because of the gigs hahaha

Even though now I mostly use my Z9, I still shoot with my D4s and D850. I love them both, I use them as backups.

arrghhh!! Lucky you!!! You have them Z9!!! AAAHHH !! LOL Although it is one of my dream camera...I have my eyes set on a Z8 hehe One day once I see the D4 even go down in lower price.. I'll probably trade in my D3 to a D4 (I don't need the "s", but if its good deal.. then hell yea!)

I just purchased from KEH a Excellent condition Canon 1DS MK III (21.1mp)..... and when I received it it had 126 total actuations in new condition....that's a $8,000 camera for $695.00 bucks and it came with three Canon 1DX batteries and the charger in new condition !!!

Wow!! That is a STEAL!!! I swear... the way I see KEH sometimes is like a raffle... you will def get in regards to the grade, but in terms of lets say finding out the actuations on the cameras?... it can go both ways lol

Dont sorry about shutter count too much. They are much on the safe side. My Canon 1Dx has an expected lide of 300k but mine has done more than a million and my Nikon D3x has done 360k.

Lens purchase I will buy from KEH if the price is right. But for Camera's I will buy from MPB because I get a shutter click count and the pictures are really good to inspect for damage or grip wear. I don't know how good KEH is with returns, but I have dealt with MPB on returns and they are fabulous.

Oh MPB is great too! I purchased a couple of items from there and one I did a video on with my Panasonic 12-35mm lens. I tend to shop around between the two and compare prices and availability on all sources like ebay, amazon, KEH and MPB. yeah I like the fact that MPB includes all the detailed information that they sell. KEH returns are also really good. They have at least 30days guarantee I believe on all items including UGLY grade ( and possibly As-is graded items), but check out the website to make sure. What made me like KEH is their competitive pricing and most of all... assuming you have good credit or good at managing payments... to be able to get finance via affirm for up to 48 months, which makes the payment easier. With MPB, I can only get either credit cards (depending if I can get more months to pay) or paypal up to 6months only. Sometimes 6months is still pretty hard to swallow. But with like 12 months of like $23-$50 dollars a month of payment (is easier on the pocket) and once you get them extra moolah from work or if you get gigs to compensate what you owe ... you can finish the payment right away.

@@iamphotovideoist I bought my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 G2 from KEH and it was like new, other than a little wear on the focus ring, but it was like 8 our of 10. Great price, caught it on a holiday special. KEH sent it in a nice lens sleeve that I use to carry it in sometimes. For me KEH is 10 out of 10 in my book. On Camera's I want to see wear and the shutter count, so I stick to MPB mostly. But if KEH throws a deal out there on a camera I will bit for sure.

@@sn4rl277 Ah yes , you are right. If you want a peace of mind in regards to SC, definitely MPB the best way to go! :) Nice lens man!! I have the G1 version hehe But yeah KEH has the best cleanup wise that they make the UGLY look brand new haha Their packaging is really good but not environment friendly. But I think my recent order, they started using the recyclable materials. MPB however... their packaging is like "Whoa!" very nicely done as if you are buying a new item lol They have their own designed box and use recyclable materials. However their cleanup in making their items look new is good... but not as good as KEH in terms of clean up.

Shutter count is not a definite sure thing measure. Many will go well above the rating. I am looking at a Canon 1DX and it is over 500k on the count. Will be warranted by the dealer. It is in good shape. Expensive new, cheap now. I have a 1D mk.4 I got for cheap in great shape with about 47K on the clock. Barely looks used. Warranted as well. I buy from Used photo pros, division of Roberts Camera, and also MPB. Both are more thorough than KEH. I bought from KEH before with no problems, but more data is always better and the D3 will give a shutter count. Not sure why they don't check. The D3 D3s, D4, D5, D6 are my Halo favs. I shoot Canon but have shot Nikon too! Had a D3200,D90,D200,D7100. All were good shooters. The D3200 I had the most fun with, the D7100 was my more serious shooter. I want an FX Sensor Nikon. May get a D700 or D750, we'll see.

Oh definitely! It is not really a measure thing for me either. Because I know it will go beyond the shutter count. It's more that majority of the people out there have this mindset. It is good to be aware that a camera can go beyond its rating. But yeah I don't know why keh doesn't put up their shutter count despite that I hear that they plan to provide that info in the future for years now. But really it doesn't matter for me. They have been great so far and if not satisfied, we can always return the purchased product or even exchange it with no issue. I haven't tried mpb yet but I plan to take a look at that marketplace. Very impressed that you went through several cameras in your collection. I started out with d3000, then d5000 then d90, d7000 and finally d700 (God I loved that camera) until it finally gave out. I do have another camera system as well which is panasonic (for videos mainly) Plus it makes me familiar with mirrorless system. But with all cameras you mentioned... if going for really cheap... if i had to choose d750 or d700... def go for the legend d700. That camera autococus system on lowlight was *muah* lol 😆 you won't regret it especially its so cheap now on used market! But if you want to do a bit more video capability and extra features besides "just" photos, then go for d750.

I recently purchased a Canon 7D in Excellent condition for $180.00 on KEH. Not sure of the shutter count, but it looks brand new and works flawlessly.

Congrats man!! I'm sure it will go beyond the rated shutter count. As long as it sounds good and able to take awesome pictures... you should be good 👍 😁 That is a steal for the price!!😁

Congratulations. I purchased its Canon peer 1D Mark IV little less than two years ago. Found it on B&H with a shutter count of 42k and in very good cosmetic condition. Paid 1k dollars for it without any regrets. The shutter life expectancy of this one is also 300k. However, such pro bodies last much longer than the declared count. So, I’m sure yours one will click at least 500k + actuations. Would love to know what lenses you use with it! I use EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM + 2x, EF 400mm f/5.6L and EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM + 1.4x. As a hobbyist couldn’t be happier shooting wildlife with these combos. Always use it on tripod or monopod with the first combo. For the next two, it’s hand-holdable. Just wish it was little quieter while shooting the blazing fast bursts. With due respect to third party glasses; I do not use them. Always native lenses. IMO, they work better without requiring AF microadjustment and also last longer. Thank you for the video.

Actually thanks for watching!! :) Ah yes, it still kicking butt on my wedding client shoots, fashion, boudoir, cosplay photography and such! :) I love it! yeah Im' thinking this will still go beyond 400k actuations. I mean the sound of each "click" is still like brand new. hmmm.. .maybe the previous owner might have replaced the shutter before getting rid of it? haha Either way, I love how it sounds and it is really loud haha I use Nikon lenses as well as my faves like Sigma Arts and Tammy's. I tried the Yongnuo 35mm 2.0 with it and it worked wonderfully. I didn't need any micro adjustments and all are tack sharp. Maybe the body itself is just that precise on focusing? But yeah, your Canon is the perfect counterpart of this product and they are tanky as well.

@@iamphotovideoistmy canon 6D is at around 86 or 87 thousand actuations (it was in either of those ranges last i checked) which is almost its rated life span (that's 100 000) but it'll probably last way longer than that. plus i'm switching to a nikon d800 or d810 eventually and it'll be put aside as a mess around camera because it holds sentimental value to me.

@@emmareporter4324 The 6D is also a legend of a camera! I remember that I was torn of getting that vs. my D7000, but I end up getting the D7000. I think that would last even longer. Or better yet, since you say it has sentimental value, definitely keep it! especially that you have it even lower actuations on it's rated lifespan. That camera would be a perfect "lifesaver" backup camera by the time you get that Nikon D800. I too still have the D800 and its a tank! I use it mainly if I want to get more Megapixel out of it, otherwise I use my D3 or nikon Z5 as my primary camera on gigs. 😁

Ahhh lucky you bro!! You got a beast of camera right there! 3ds can do video too (720p) Just the autfocus system will get you to love it even more.

Far from ugly, one of the most beautiful cameras with exceptional ergonomic qualities and a delight to hold in the hand! We purchased Nikon due to the ergonomics, Canon did not suit and Nikon is mentioned in a Simon and Garfunkel song and that is good enough for us! 😂

hahaa that mention just adds to the novelty and nostalgia! It should add more value indeed! hahaha I completely agree that the ergonomics is when you hold this one at hand... you already know that its a heavy duty camera. I have a mirrorless nikon camera and I had to put a cage on it just to feel the balance or at least (feel like) its more durable lol To all newbies who started out in mirrorless cameras... may not find these kind of tanky dslr comfortable since it is on the heavy side. Besides the Nikon D700 dubbed to be a legend... this one ascends it! :)

LOL SC is nothing and what do you expect to D3 nowadays... For sure it will be beat up Legendary camera like this need more Respect... I will choose D3/D3s d4/d4s D700 D500/D850 over mirror less camera

KEH not very reliable, I got a Nikon D5 paid about 60% price and shutter count was more than 150K... pretty rough as usual the viewfinder was dirty, rubber grips were falling, all in all a bad deal ...

It is definitely not for everyone. It is really for people who really knows about the risk when they buy used gear. You gotta have expectations. So let's say at KEH, you are about to buy an "ugly" grade... then expect that you know you are going to get a hell lot of actuations on the bodies. But if you get a "Like new" or "New", then there is a 80% to 90% chance that you are getting a lower actuations eventhough they don't tell the shutter counts. If you get a high shutter count... you can always return it.. no questions asked. If you try to get a "bargain" grade... there is a chance that 50-70% that you may get a lower actuation or possibly high actuations... if it's really high.. you can always return it since they have that guarantee. In MPB, they tell the actuations which is great, but the only downside for me on that store is that I have a limitation on finance payments options and the shipment seems to be a lot longer compared to KEH. So you have these options whatever your preference is. To me, i trust all these resellers since I have purchased serveral items from them. So far... all but satisfaction for me on all stores (KEH, MPB, Amazon). To everything though... the least I trust is Ebay... because the returns sometimes are not guarantee.

I replaced shutter after 1 million actuations. It's a good reliable system.

Nice!! This must hold a sentimental value to you. In my case, if and when I get to that point (1mil shutters) I'll still use it until it croaks lol If that happens, instead of replacing the shutter; I'd rather get another used D3 from KEH or MPB... OR better yet... I can try to go for an Ugly (poor) or Bargain (good) condition on a D4 or a D5 if it fits my budget hehehe :)

@@iamphotovideoist Oh it's special to me in the way that it's MY D3S and everyone envies it in the way how I envy Nikon F3, F4, F5 photographers shine on about their classic cameras! No different than watching people drive around in their classic cars and can't wipe the smile off their face! Meanwhile, the second hand market for Nikon D cameras has exploded since the Z systems are coming online. Massive bargains on D cameras!
