When I first reviewed the UE Megablast a few months ago I didn’t like it at all. It had a whole bunch of missing features, it relied way too much on voice commands, and it just didn’t sound good. The megablast had way too much bass and no mids. But I decided to give the Megablast a second chance. And even though it still has its problems… it actually sounds really good now. So good in fact that I feel its actually up there with the JBL Xtreme 2 with a form factor smaller than the Sony XB41.

Mega blast sounded like 3rd place all around. Xb41 was surprisingly loud Xtreme2 bass is sooo clean, def the one I’m picking up. Thanks for the comparison

@@itszmystic2948tbh, I don't even think that the Xtreme 2 belongs in the class with the other 2. It surely sound the best with tweeters, but also weights as much as the modest gaming laptop at 2.4kgs.

@@demonclub7050 nah because the sound is being changed throughout everything. It's being changed through the microphone is being recorded on. Then changed again through the editing software. Then again when you listen to it with whatever you use. Doesn't matter if it's the phone loudspeaker or headphones. Do remember that $10 headphones and $400 headphones will not sound the same.

Just ordered a megablast. One reason I liked it was cause small footprint indoors plus it's sleek look. I do listen to them outside sometimes so may be a drawback but if your walking around multiple areas then a directional can have flaws also. We see what happens . I picked up a refurb megablast for $79. So def cheap enough

I would pick up the JBL, but I dont like the exposed radiators since my Flip 4's radiators have developed some damage over the months of travelling and everyday abuse, so i'll pick up an XB41.

@@malakuloushs4265 no, a person who appreciates sound quality & build quality, also the convenience of it be A. Louder B. Better balanced sound & C. Having clearer, more mellow bass. Throw a bottle opener on the strap in & also the speaker being incredibly durable and you finish off with a speaker blatantly better in every way. So I’m not a fan, I made the right choice

@@redlineracing4947 IPX7 vs IP67 on the Sony, which is also drop and scratch resistant. Sony is also salt resistant and is built better than the Xtreme. Sure the XB41 sounds no where near as good as the xtreme 2, but the bass is better and it's louder.

When the XB41 is set to Max volume extra bass mode is turned off and the XB41 starts playing in it's standard EQ setting.

Quest4Truth yeah i use eq. I don't mind a little distortion on max volume, cuz u don't get many chances to actually play it that loud. I have bass on 3db+ and mids on 4db+ and highs on 7db+ i think and i like it quite a lot.

Maximilien Moroe i have a xb 40 and i played around with the eq, tuned it sounds clear and punchy and i have a similuar eq. i have bass at 5 mid at 7 and treble on 9,but i also have a eq on apple music. wich is a treble boost and slight mid, and it, is nice. but i have to say it really would need a tweeter even if i boost treble till the sky and unboost bass i still dont feel tinglie enough. but mids aremawasome.

This review is biased. How could this review be fair to the EU Megablast? I just tested both (with the Xtreme 2) and they sounded both almost as good and loud, the Xtreme 2 having cleaner bass (apologies, it was a Megaboom not even a Megablast). The MB is the best allrounder - better battery life, better protection (against water, dust and shocks), better portability (is a lot more portable than the other two) and the most improved via updates. All these missing features will be addressed and the other ones don't necessarily have them either. The sound is not real 360° but the others are front shooters as well. Not a fair review, period. I have a EU Megablast - it's a blast!

What? I just tested the in store unit of the Megaboom 3, but I don't know of it's the sample tracks that they play, but it honestly sounded horrid compared to the Sony and JBL offering

@@chrischoy9 yes, I see, you have to pair it first by pushing the smaller LED. My advice, get a barely used Megablast from Amazon. You'll be very happy with it.

2:00 yeah I get what you're saying about the UE charging port. It sucks. I have the UE Roll and I absolutely love it but one time I was on a road trip and had limited space so I only brought one Mico-usb charging cable that happened to be the cord to charge my powerbank. When the time . came to charge the speaker the cable would not fit because it requires a cable with a curve in it. Really ticked my off.

Yea I use the megablast outside like everyday and it's very loud to me on my bike but the battery really only last like 3-4 hours

I've got the xtreme 2 and the charge 4 and it's true it's easy to connect them but their connecting to each other the most time fast but sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries... But I'm still happy because I'm not using it often and the sound quality is great

I've had the Sony xb40 and jbl xtreme, Sony's bass almost didn't exist while jbl's bass was good but frequencies where bad, I dropped each accedently and the sony,s speaker mount broke while the jbl held together, but as of now jbl destroyed Sony. 😁

MetroIsHere YT matter of opinion right? It sounded best to me. But here is the kicker. Were listening through a mic on different devices. So the others might sound better on your device. I own a ue boom2, and a sony xb30. One for work and one for home. The sony has more bass but doesnt sound as clear. The ue has less bass but has more tweeter. Id rather have ok bass but really good tweeter for the type of music i listen to. Thats why i like ue.

Take notice that only with the online upgraded firmware can the JBL Xtreme 2 minimally increase its sound quality from its original settings. As far as outside loudness, it’s clear that the Sony XB 41 still wins the loudness battle between its competitors, (it’s already been proven on other channels). But, if you want to get a JBL Extreme and plan on using it outside a lot, still the JBL Xtreme 1 is a better outside choice to go with than that of the Xtreme 2, even with its minimal upgrades. Still, for the price, the JBL Xtreme 1 is the better choice to go with over all.

@@svenexplay Ue has equalizer too. Think about ue doing all drivers and radiators up on front like jbl and sony, that would be so killer but its nice that ue is different and thats why I like them. It may not sound loudest from close range but in real life outdoor use the ue spreads out the music much better because all elements are on sides, separated. Such a blame that Jbl and sony got everything in front😂😂 I cant even understand why should I buy a speaker with every elements in front, ue kinda got 360° sound for me. With long range you hear the music good everywhere, say that with jbl and sony and I will laugh at you.

Whenever i encounter JBLs, to me it sounds like the tweeters are on the bottom pointing downward and highs sound muffled. My friend has an xtreme and it only sounds good hanging from the strap on a tree limb or something. The UE isn't loud at all, not even louder than the next size down Charge and sb31. Overall i prefer the sony sound front firing rather than 360 ish sound of other two

Bought an xb41 on sale for $150 and wasn’t impressed. It was an okay speaker but not very loud infact not any louder than my charge 3. The bass wasn’t that great either. I returned it and got an Xtreme 2 on sale for $250 and it’s amazing 👍🏼

Devin this isn’t right. The xb41 is louder and has more bass than a charge 3. And there are also not many differences to the xtreme 2. The xtreme 2 has better highs than the sony. If you turn xb on and turn the bass up at the eq settings the sony has a little bit better bass at lower volumes but at 100% volume the xtreme 2 and xb41 has pretty similar bass. Also the sony is 1-2 db louder than the xtreme 2 but this is not a huge difference. The sony is cheaper too. The sony and the jbl are having good and bad sides but they are both nice speakers. Im sorry if there are any stupid grammar mistakes in the text but I am just learning english and its not my main language.

xb41 might be the loudest, but sounds tinny. For me, no chance against the xtreme2. Megablast just suffers under design quality, but sounds good - still no chance compared to the xtreme 2

Here is a JBL Xtreme 2 life hack: Hold the minus and Bluetooth button until u hear a sound change and that is a base boost and volume boost.If u plug your Xtreme 2 in while charging and put it 100% volume it goes louder too. Your welcome for that life hack👍🏽

@@jamespunter4593 no, the radiators are really hard to break. I would worry more about the actual drivers and the stress that they go through at max volume on low frecuency mode.

@@TechnikToni-Overtribe Ue megablast.. A lot louder, about as clear sound but the bass lacks, much better for outdoor use. Xtreme 2 more of a indoor speaker

Funny part heard Sony and ue at the shop and xtreme to my ears was destroying both of them easily...sony it has a bass that its alright but anything else sounded thin...UE is fine and that's what they are fine (I do own one)

AdultGamer yeah jbl xtreme 2 is also bigger and more expencive than both of those. so It's kind of expected that it eill perform the best. Athough I think the megaboom and mgablast should be comapred to jbl Charge speakers instead as they are closer in terms of price and size

I thought same thing cuz they designed to be 360, although vid says xtreme is front firing. The light up jbl one sounded like garbage to me but he liked it so *shrug*. I picked sony. Mine got better after playing and wearing in but reverts if not used for awhile.

Mike Chin - Interesting it needs to kinda wear back in after a long break. I’ll keep an eye/ear out for this when I get a higher xb like this one. Now just rocking a little XB10, but loving its bass over my JBL GO 2.

Hmm... Megablast almost as good as the Xtreme 2?? nah, the Sony Xb30 sounds even better with Clavinetjunkies’s Eq settings, it really sounds better with more punch and pretty decent treble altough you need to sit exacly on axis with the Xb30. Liked the review a lot though thanks!

DerTechnikKanal That’s not what i’m saying. I mean that the Xb30 sounds better than the Megablast. The xb30 for sure doesn’t sound better than the X2 as i have both and the X2 is just incredible for it’s size.

Max`s Account little sound? Whahahah sounds more like the UE Megablast wich sounds thin and harsh and is just garbage for the price. The X2 is still as loud if not even louder with nice punch even at maximum. A Sony xb30 beats that piece of junk for half the price.

Wrong, megablast is louder. This guy clearly doesn't know jack shit about audio. The xtreme 2 is not as loud as the xtreme 1 and the megablast is louder than the first xtreme so I'm confused. Wtf, this guy is ultra biased asf

I've heard them all in person. The Sony sounds far better than the other 2. The sony, has way more clarity, and the bass is nice. I don't know what this dude is talking about. But if your going to spend that kindve money, just get a libratone zipp. Actual HIFI speaker with better sound than any of these. The quality or craftsmanship and sound quality is obvious right out of the box.

Josh Fish yea Xtreme 2 is The best althought maybe Not The loudest The ue is missing mids with to much Upper Bass as typical for ue and The Sony has no highs and that can be adjusted with The eq but it doesn‘t help much and it still can‘t keep up with The Xtreme

john tran yes I will buy 150 speakers one day, and I have no problem spending $300 on a speaker that sounds way better than a jbl. Fact is I’ve owned multiple jbl speakers and now I switched to UE for their signature 360 sound and loudness with ruggedness.

If you ever buy 150 speaker to pair it up. Make sure to buy it in less than 2 years 😆. Every time a new bluetooth speaker comes out a newer firmware too. Cant keep connecting to the same one lol. Like how the onyx studio 3 cant pair with onyx studio 4. But studio 4 can do 100 connect synx or with jbl mix in with it.

Ue and jbl about same clearance. Sony sounds shit but has the strongest bass, atleast on my bass boosted headphones. Ue is the clearest but has the worst sounding bass. Jbl xtreme 2 is the first, Ue megablast second, sony easily the last.

@Ice Inducer Well nobody in my country has jbl xtreme 2, but all the xtremes are silent compared to my megablast.. Especially outside, jbl speakers are useless for a football field example, no one can hear dhit from them. Ue does the job. Gitta agree that ue bass is not the best.

@Ice Inducer Yeah the bass is pretty weak but jbl xtreme sucks if we count its size too. It weighs over 2kg and can not be carried on hand becaude of its styling. Good indoor speaker but bad outdoor speaker due to its aesthetics. None of these speakers have bass when listened to outdoors. Highs sound clear af on the ue.
