I've always liked Rex. He's one of the few bass players that really shines during the guitar solo.

He's also one of the few top-tier musicians from back in the day who survived rock and roll. From 1982-2001 this legend drove pantera's sound and lives to tell about it!
@Mr.M1STER7 жыл бұрын
I love the sound of just bass and drums under dime's solos. There is no need for another guitar in there when Rex provides that driving force to keep everything locked in and tight while Dime shreds it up on top.

Yeah, it's fucking wonderful. That's one of the reasons I prefer to play bass in a band with only one guitarist. I just think it sounds cooler.

Rex is one of the very few hard rockers who survived being a super star. Though he wasn't without significant alcohol and drug damage, he does go on to talk about in his book how in the final days of pantera the tensions were so high and the band was so drained with eachother that they were touring on separate buses. One can't help but wonder what MUSIC would be like if these men were still all together. Criminally underrated bass player who do his part in the best hard rock band in history.
@lukeaustin446511 ай бұрын
He didn't do hard drugs, he definitely had an alcohol problem though.
@hamblok09 ай бұрын
@@lukeaustin4465 He admitted to doing tons of cocaine in his autobiography but whether or not that's a hard drug I guess depends on who you ask. Mix cocaine and alcohol and that shit is pretty fucking deadly, though.

I think he is underrated, when talking about bass to other people, he isn't mentioned much. His playing style is like he is the non-existent rhythm guitar, he near enough does his own solos behind Dime's. Such a great player
@edwinmoya804210 жыл бұрын
rockstribute I don't think he's underrated man, he was nominated as bassist of the year by Hit Parader year after year and kept winning! Just the fact the he was in Pantera makes him stand out there more than other bass players, but everyone is entitled to their opinion

A great bass player is always required if you want to be a killer trio. They not only have to keep the groove going during the guitar solo, but also fill in the empty space and keep the bottom end thump going. Rex does all of that and more! Great player.

Darren Middaugh Exactly. No Dime equals no Pantera. When those assholes in the press keep dredging up the notion of the surviving members reuniting with Zakk Wylde on guitar, I don't know whether to laugh, be pissed off, or be disgusted that they would entertain the idea of shitting on Dime's legacy that way. Pantera ended for good when Dime died, so they should give it a rest and move on.

You get pissed off because the bass is so quiet in pantera's recordings, all you can hear is guitar. Then you go to a clinic to hear some actual pantera bass playing. And then the playback is louder than the bass. :-(

That's the idea, at least the bass is a lot louder than on a studio recording. And the recordings aren't that quiet with a good pair of headphones.
