"Rezonomics", a documentary on the eclectic and inventive survival strategies of residents of the Pine Ridge Reservation, navigates the seamless web of economic and social relations of the Oglala Lakota, challenging the Western European notion of economy, which separates the "rational" economic from the embedded moral, normative, and reciprocal relations at play in many indigenous and rural communities.
This film has been produced by the Department of Anthropology of Colorado State University, Village Earth, and Reflexive Films. Filmmakers: Ralf Kracke-Berndorff, Raúl Paz Pastrana, David Bartecchi
Festivals: DocsDF, Mexico City's Documentary Film Festival, 2006 (docsdf.com); EthnoFilmFest, Völkerkundemuseum München, 2010 (www.voelkerkundemuseum-muenche...)
Please support our projects on Pine Ridge by purchasing a copy of this film on DVD at www.VillageEarth.org. Thanks you!

I'm from Pine Ridge and my mother didn't want me to grow up there. I went back home in my adult life and it was like culture shock. Now I use my art and dance to tell people about us. We have a solar panel project going to bring electricity to the houses, things are capable of improvement and with the internet the possibilities have opened up. Now is the time to help heal our people from addiction and stand up. We all need to stand up together.

This is the way we all should be. Go away get education and come home bringing economic and sustainable development to our communities. Thank you for encouraging us all to just make it happen for ourselves and most everything falls into place. Perseverance! I want to welcome your spouse to Sioux Country. Thank you beautiful children for standing by your parents business at this time in your lives. You are appreciated and a true example to other young people. Parents persevere so therefore their babies learned perseverance and support. Magical People with beautiful families.

We follow you from the other side of the world. All that was and still is being done to you and the land and not least your animals. I understand that in itself is blinding, installing false needs, resulting in diabetes, depression and hopelessness, blindness to the herbs on the ground, medicinal to use regularly, plants to eat daily along with other food, at least to have some of the invaluable richness of Nature's wisdom of nourishment, gradually growing to get stronger, healthier, happier. On that exact detail, we are in the same spot over here as well. And it seems, as people soon are forced to eat SOMETHING, more people will open eyes to the abundance of nourishment in the simple, humble little plants around the houses. Also learning to utilize wastes and ashes for fertilizers, choosing pets like goats or sheep instead of dogs although we love them all... On my continent as well as on yours, - although education is a good thing as long as it provides useful strength -, it seems people will soon have to realize that getting money-jobs is a blind road . We all need to windle backwards, learning to utilize, to find, to exchange, to learn skills like smelting metal and anything else we need. I am happy to see that people find back to own cultural heritage and strength and the beauty therein.

I am registered New Mexico Apache. My Brother has a different name: John Apache Smith. I am also Brother to Leon Rattler, CEO of the Blackfeet Nation. I was also born 1/4 Onondaga, but my grandmother was exiled because she was pregnant w/my Dutch father. I have always been a free man and Have never lived on any Rez. There are few opportunities to make money on the Rez. In the city Lawyer Lloyd Herman molested my 13 year old daughter. Cocaine dealing Joseph Valente, a senior Superior CourtJustice killed me in 1995. But! After being without any signs of life for 45 minutes, Our Creator restored my life. Spokane puts its leaders above the law and none of these criminals have been punished, twenty one years later. I still have little money, and desire to leave here to live on one of several reservations. I may not be wealthy but, Native Americans have never harmed me like the white-hairs constantly have done.
