Finally, the Trifox MFM100 carbon mountain bike frame is built
Will this frame handle the trails?
The Pumpkin Bike LIVES!
It took some time but the Trifox MFM100 carbon mountain bike frame has be completed and I have to say it looks amazing! I put a lot of time and effort into this build but it was worth it. Lots of bling to make you smile.

Great video Gene. I appreciate the level of detail I had a Chinese carbon hardtail and it was great! Currently i have a similar carbon saddle on my fixed gear. Over 3k miles and it’s still holding up and as comfortable as ever. I don’t mind these brands for an xc rig but for my big hit bike I’ll go with a reputable company just for peace of mind. That being said I don’t currently have an xc bike so your Trifox has my brain doing some thinking!

Hey Gene! Great videos... About the rear shock - I have scoured over your videos, James' and MCs and I cannot find any detailed information on how the rear shock was mounted; just that it was difficult and you give a shoutout to James. I am going with a Fox Float DPS Factory shock 165x45mm Trunnion mounted shock, but I don't know where to get the mounting hardware. Even the Trifox website isn't clear. I reached out to them but I am still waiting a response. Lastly, I am considering putting 140mm Rockshox Recon on the front. I'm just shy of 6'3". Am I nuts to consider this?

I'm on my 6th Carbon MTB build - all Chinese frames "Direct From Factory", and the most I paid for the frame is for my FS MTB at $750. After 6 years of beating on these bikes (a few crashes here and there) I still have no problems at all. I can not bring myself to buy a name brand frame for $3000 when I can get an excellent frame, likely made in the same place, for $450. And the carbon wheelset I go with is ordered through a company in Colorado with Hope Hubs and Arrow Tech spokes for $1000 for the set.

How was the engagement on the hub or cassette modified? I don’t understand what mods could be done that aren’t available as aftermarket parts? Love the build!
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 2 жыл бұрын
I'm happy to explain! Not every hub can be upgraded so you have to do a little research here. Inside the rear hub of my wheel set there are these things called pawls that engage the hub when you pedal. My hub came with 3 pawls but could be upgraded to 6. These extra pawls just help the hub lock into place a little tighter since there are a few more. Here is a link to the pawls that I used. www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/bike-hubs-hub-parts/bontrager-rapid-drive-108-freehub-pawls/p/21957/ Here is a link to a video that shows the process so that you can get a better idea what I'm talking about. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7ueibR61NCUpYU.html Hope this helps!

The bike is named MFM100 because it is intended to be built with 100mm of travel front and back. Have you experienced any downside to building it with longer travel components? What is your long term opinion of your build? Is there anything you would do differently with the build? Have you considered doing a long term review video?
@rgmtb

I think your right, a long term review is in order and I'll get on that. Quick recap, the bike rides just fine and I've been completely happy with it. I'll work on the LTR to give you details.

At least a large for sure. I'm 5'8" and find the med perfect but you've got a good few inches on me. If your just doing more calm trail riding then XL because you want need to toss it around so much. If you plan to do some more advanced technical trails then the L. Either way, the med is way to small for you. If this video and info has helped would you please use my affiliate link when purchasing your frame. It really helps me out 👍

i'm in the process of ordering the same frame from Trifox. i'm 5'9" tall, looking at their chart i seem to fall on 2 sizes. M & L, was wondering which size frame you got if you don't mind me asking
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 3 жыл бұрын
I'm riding the med. At 5'9 your in a tough spot (I'm 5'8) and can go either way for sure. What are you used to riding? With 29" wheels the bike feels roomy and high. Not in a bad way at all. I realize wheels will not change the length of the bike but they do change the hight. Combo that with a larger frame that is also taller and you have a big bike. Not sure if Im helping here or not. Let me know what you're thinking. Also, if you could use my code when you order that would be a huge help to my channel 👍 Thank you

A lot of the parts where supplied by my sponsors so my price will be my price. As for what it would cost to build this same exact bike, part for part. I'm guessing at least 3k. Remember, the frame is the only low cost part. I've got some very nice parts on this bike. Also, building a bike from scratch, buying all the parts, is never cheap.

@rgmtb
@rgmtb 3 жыл бұрын
The pins are not wrong, they are just for an eye to eye non trunnion style shock. I wanted the extra travel so I needed to go trunnion. It would have been nice if the hardware for both styles where included so the builder could pick.

I'm 2 minutes into the video and already hearing so many red flags... 115 inch rear suspension travel? Sounds waayyy too much. That's 300mm, a lot more than downhill bikes and you're fitting 120-140mm suntour fork?
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 3 жыл бұрын
I meant to say mm and not inches. 115 inches would be several feet of travel. It's an honest mistake and one that most people picked up on 👍

Enduro fram and 2.3 ???? Is it Chinese thing? or they don't have any idea about what the MTB is. Stop advertising for this brand
@TC-hl1ws
@TC-hl1ws Жыл бұрын
Actually it is not an enduro frame it it a XC frame. It is designed for a 100mm travel front and back, hence the MFM100 name. 100 stands for 100mm. I doubt the bike handles as well as it should being built up with 115mm rear and 120mm front in this particular build.
