Valerie Harper showed no significant signs of aging, from the beginning of the run of the MTM show until the end of the run of 'Rhoda.' She was a natural beauty.

I was born on 1980 growing up in a small city. Off the wall, one thing I like about this episode is seeing the cut scene and how New York looked in 1970s. The changes of Times Square, despite the washed out 480p film stock, but the limitations of a scrolling marquees compared to todays QLED... epic!

Another show having an ep of at least 2 cast members accidently locked in some room...several 1970s sitcoms had that scene. This show was funny, glad I saw it new. For Rhoda not earning much, she dresses well, and has nice boots.She has a nice apt. with alot of furnishings,too. I always thought this was funny, especially eps with johnny the Vegas lounge singer on them.

Really, genuinely funny. Being trapped with the advantage of having booze handy seems to guarantee character bonding: still remember Archie and Meathead stuck in a meat cooler with alcohol as one of the funniest most poignant episodes of All in the Family, also in the 70s.

Too many 1970s sitcoms had the "locked in a room" scenario. On Happy Days, the guys got locked in Howard Cunningham's store vault. I don't think there was a 1970s show I didn't watch new.

To be totally real usually these type of party's in real life: lite snacks like cheese and crackers. Veggie plates like carrot sticks, celery sticks with onion dip. And like Jack wanted pigs in a blanket. Mini potato knishes. And spring rolls... Maybe some sort of sweet cakes as well... They over thought everything...

Why do they make Rhoda always getting stuck in difficult situations. Sometimes things should go her way
@revolutionaryviews9702
@revolutionaryviews9702 3 жыл бұрын
My own view is that the writers were secretly jealous of her and sadistically subjected her to loss after loss. I loved the characters, but I ultimately hated this show as a vehicle for them. It needed to be taken over by a better director and writers. The funny thing is that it parallels the downhill slide of American culture at large from the ‘70s to the ‘80s, so maybe it was an inevitable reflection of that.

@@revolutionaryviews9702 Or maybe the dramas and the “losses”, as you call them, were just mechanisms for a storyline. Her doing it like a champ and a winner would not have kept the interest of the peeps. It’s all reaction derived humor. Very Long Island. Very funny.

I remember when you had to lick postage stamps...tasted kinda minty. The peel-off ones sure are alot better. Johnny was funny, dressed in costume. I always wondered how it would have been if Johnny and Rhoda had fallen in love and married, and he was actually loyal to her. Jack is sure a grouch. Getting yourself locked in a room had been a common thing on old shows. Lucy got locked in a room on The Lucy Show. Archie Bunker also did. And the people always panic as if they will die within the 2 hours or the weekend. No cellphones back then to call for help!! I watched all these eps when new. I was 14 and in 8th grade when the show premiered.

This was a good episode. The only thing I don't like is how Rhoda became sooooo pathetic after Joe left her. What an empty and meaningless life. Locked in a bathroom with Jack when Rhoda should be married with a kid is just sad and depressing, imo.

Another "stuck in a" episode, a cliché of TV comedy history from Happy Days to Welcome Back Kotter to Family Ties. I am sure Perfect Strangers, Family Matters, and Will & Grace had them too. The funniest one ever was on Family Guy with Brian and Stewie in the bank vault for two days. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LockedInARoom

They're a type of "bottle" episode. Community also had a great one, as did Mad About You. They don't always have to involve being "stuck", but do limit the story to one set - like Seinfeld's Chinese Restaurant episode.
