Hey John, I used to live in that Neighborhood across the street at a building called Life Huay Kwang. It's a great neighborhood imo. There's a small local night market down the street. Mini mart on the corner. There was a great little restaurant/bar Karaoke and live music place on the corner across the street called Park Terrace (I think) - not sure if it's still there. It's only a stop or two along the subway (MRT) to the big night markets behind Esplanade Shopping Mall (The One Night Market) or another great night market at Rama 9 next to Central Rama9 called Jodds Fair. Great shopping centers, supermarkets etc, all within 1-4 stops on the MRT. I liked it when I lived there because it was mostly locals, fewer farang than down along Sukhumvit. And I never had a problem there with being overcharged for anything. If I moved back to Bangkok, this would likely be at the top of my preferred neighborhoods to move back to.
