Rich, I was a casual fan. Used to watch baseball all the time. Then I got cold with the sport until Mr. Shohei appeared. After the WBC, I immediately went online and purchased 2 tickets for Angels at Tampa, just hoping he does not get traded by then.(September 21st 1.10pm game) He has brought baseball to relevance. I live in Orlando Fl and will make the 1 1/2 drive to Tropicana Stadium. That is the effect of THE UNICORN.

Rich, it does matter to Shohei. During the World Baseball Classic in Japan, he said that he appreciated the support he was getting from the fans, but he asked them to be louder. He feeds off filled to capacity ballparks and screaming fans.

The attendance was 27,390 for a weekday game with one of the worst draws in the Nationals in April actually a little higher than usual when the kids get out of school OC then goes to the game that’s the way its been even during the Nolan Ryan days. In June vs the Yankees this same game is capacity. That’s just the way it is. I dont think any of this matters. What matters is the team in going in the right direction as far as being a competitor.

I’ve been an Angels fan for 30 years. While I live in Phoenix now I used to live in Southern California and would go to a handful of games every year. When the team was winning in the late 2000s and early 2010s they had some of the best attendance numbers in baseball. There are several factors contributing to the lower attendance. The distance, like Rich said, is part of it. The stadium is the 4th oldest in baseball and lacks the charm of the 3 older parks than them and frankly doesn’t do anything to draw anyone in. Prices are absurd and everyone hates the owner. These are all reasons, not excuses however. More people need to be going to these games.

Ownership alienated the fans in Orange County by naming the team Los Angeles Angels. Even with this said, the Angels typically are in the top 50% of teams total attendance. First of all, they're the Anaheim Angels. Whether they know it or not. Ask Google Maps about it. Now, Rich is right he'll get a bigger crowd in better baseball towns, but NY is beyond comparison. I was in NYC in 2013 when Matt Harvey was lighting it up for a Met team with not much else to root for. I remember the train to Citi Field and then at the game it was wall to wall packed just for a couple starts I went out to Queens for. That he chose to go to Anaheim in the first place maybe he doesn't want that kind of intense fan base, same as I think about Mike Trout.

Ownership and marketing is beyond tone deaf when it comes to the Angels. Since changing the name to L.A. it absolutely frustrated fringe fans and alienated an entire city. Almost telling them that Anaheim and O.C. wasn't good enough for the Angels. In fact, people in L.A. hate them being called L.A...Next, if it wasn't for Nike's city connect uniforms the Angels will still dull out their red, white and grey uniforms that they've been wearing since 02. Now, if they've been winning often it probably wouldn't matter, but those units are so stale with shitty seasons. Lastly, If and when Shohei decides to leave, this team will become the worst attended MLB team for the next 10 years not named the Athletics.

When Dwight Gooden was great, we had Fernando Valenzuela with the Dodgers. He sold the place out and finally will get his number 34 retired. When Ohtani becomes a Dodger, we'll be there for him.

Has the Angels been relevant since Gene Autry died? I remember when they were called the California Angels. I have no idea why they changed their name.

@@TheJonesmonster55 Ruth also didn't want to compete with the Black players. Just look at those white Boxers got destroyed when they fought against the Blacks. Ruth was smart, he knew he'd get destroyed by the black players if the leagues merged. Shohei is competing against the best in the world, while Ruth competed against the best white plumbers, electricians and construction workers and all of them were white.

@@TheJonesmonster55 Oh look, it's the village idiot who thinks ANY athlete from 100 years ago is better than any good modern athlete. I'm sure you've watched Ruth play live so, so many times, right? All you're doing is touching yourself looking at Ruth's stats from some 1950's baseball almanac while never seeing the competition he played against. The fact of the matter is that Ruth was great for his time, but he ONLY played against guys who weren't full-time athletes and had 2-3 jobs just to make a living. He didn't play against the BEST IN THE WORLD, only segregated talent. Didn't have to deal with the internet where teams can instantly scout you and every at bat you've ever had. Technology, nutrition, training, athletic evolution, etc. As far as pitching goes, there were also NO changeups, splitters, or cutters. Ohtani is doing all of this right now, in REAL-TIME against the best talent in the world who are FULL-TIME PROFESSIONALS and modern technology.

He should leave the team because it's not run well not because of fans.

Hey Rich Eisen, did you see Yankee Stadium when Ohtani his that Home Run to right field today? Lotta empty seats in that first inning. First pitch was at 7:09PM too. But hey, you can keep milking Ohtani's name with low quality clickbait just like everyone else. We are used to it.

I’m from OC. Real Angels fans are few and far between, and you won’t see many if any red hats around. Could be just because it’s a big red hat but it always struck me to see more dodgers hats in OC than Angels

“…of Anaheim” is why I love Brockman! It was the most absurd thing ever, so absurd, that I turned it into a gimick and just added it to random team names. “Las Vegas Raiders…of Anaheim.” Priceless.

Outside of HAVING Ohtani in their roster...what would he have to compliment them for? If they can get a Wild Card spot away from the AL East, maybe Rich will throw them a bone
