As a performance mechanic I know the feeling of building something from the ground up, those long nights at the shop, kicking back drinking some brews with your buddies throwing steaks on the grill while building a few race cars, then hearing it fire up for the first time and watching it go down the street huffing a 300 shot of nitrous nothing compares. I'm a poor guy so I don't get to do to many projects. But I build a few on my channel. I put a 2016 LS motor 6 speed auto and all digital gauges in a 57 Bel-Air. I'm building a 70 gmc 4x4 with well over 400 horsepower out of the original 6 cylinder it came with in 1970. The. Project I'd love to do is build a truck with an old engine, something that most people think is a antique and doesn't have a place in today's market. Let's say a ford 300 straight 6. And compete with any new gas engine on the market today, with power, speed, fuel economy, reliability, ease to work on. And show that an old 300 could beat most factory motors on the market today to ask the question are all the advancements we have made really advancements? Maybe I could get a little of that KZfaq money one day to have some real fun with projects

It's just heartening to know there are still REAL gearheads out there like this guy. It gives me hope for our world that increasingly contains "no serviceable parts". In fact, it is now no longer possible to obtain even service manuals for many vehicles...even fairly primitive internal combustion ones. Manufacturers like Royal Enfield will only share such manuals of their newest motorcycle models with "official service centers", only giving owners an "Owners Manual" that merely advises them not to drink the battery contents.

Unfortunately these guys are rare as hens teeth and sadly to few for a sustainable future. We're marching toward a world that I don't recognize and that is inevitable at this time. Even the owners manuals will shrink over time to where if you have a question they'll provide you a number to call that will of course cost per minute and it will be taken right out of your bank account immediately. We reached the tipping point a long time ago. Instead of hope I'm only filled with sadness of what once was.

@@SlickArmor There was another short I watched yesterday featuring the late Dr. Carl Sagan that reminded me of what you've written. Here's the gist of his warning: . "I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness... The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance." Source: Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark.

@@BilgemasterBill oh yes Mr Sagin. His vision for the future was spot on and what I wrote were just a couple of things that comes with his vision. As I said it saddens me and I fear there is no going back unless we have a full-scale revolution. Someone else said ww3 will be a nuclear war and ww4 will be fought with sticks and stones or something to that effect. Have you seen the movie 'idiocracy'? That hits close to home.
