Richard Tarnas, Ph.D. "Humanity's Rite of Passage", Seattle, March 13, 2015
Philosopher and cultural historian Richard Tarnas speaks about our age of transformation and explores the challenges and possibilities of this dramatic time for which Jung used the term kairos, the pivotal moment for a fundamental spiritual and cultural change in human experience.
At the heart of our civilization's spiritual and ecological drama has been the dynamically shifting relation between the human being and the larger world within which it is embedded. This ever evolving relationship has been framed in different ways -“ between man and nature, between subject and object, between psyche and cosmos – with the shifting experience of the divine or a spiritual dimension of existence in our world view playing a crucial role. Today there is no being on the planet that is not affected by the consequences of this unfolding drama. Our moment in history-perhaps the universe itself-ap”appears to be impelling us towards a critical threshold, a threshold of profound transformation that may represent not only a philosophical paradigm shift but a large-scale moral and psychological rite of passage. Is modern humanity undergoing some kind of cosmic initiation?
Richard Tarnas, Ph.D., is a professor of philosophy and cultural history at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where he founded the graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness. He is the author of The Passion of the Western Mind, a history of Western thought widely used in universities, and Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View, which received the Book of the Year Prize from the Scientific and Medical Network.

Outstanding lecture and discussion. Indeed humanity is being forced to face our shadows while within reach of our next initiation.

not too far into this, but as he calls in 2015 the moral revolution of the Obamas in the white house, so that revolution called in the opposite in 2016. I will listen on, I hope he addresses this in succinct Jungian terms.
