Baha' al-Din, a contemporary Muslim soldier and biographer of Saladin, recorded a tribute to Richard's martial prowess at this battle: "I have been assured ... that on that day the king of England, lance in hand, rode along the whole length of our army from right to left, and not one of our soldiers left the ranks to attack him. The Sultan was wroth thereat and left the battlefield in anger..

Do you really believe in progressists and modernist films? For the love of God. This movie is a true affront to the truth. Look at the Renaud of Châtillon, in the movie, he looks like a great villain, but in honest history... He was simply King Balduin IV's right-hand man. The film tries to tarnish the image of the Templars and even claim that Renaud of Châtillon was a Templar, lying...

i think it was the mix of his charisma, bravery, skills and the ability to give morale to his troops. You dont see a king with 2000 men leading the charge against 10,000 men everyday.

Whatever his historical faults, richard was a fantastic military commander and one wonders how the third crusade would have gone had he not been left to continue alone by France and the Holy Roman Empire. Had richard not been forced into targeted engagements and limited actions. Modern historical readings always talk about the prowess of saladin and never talk about how insanely successful his foil Richard was. Fact is, tactically speaking he was superior to Saladin.

I think they would have followed him through the gates of hell if he led them their
