Yeah for sure. I aquired a Genie field manual that has a bunch of very useful troubleshooting diagnostics charts. I've learned most of them from just being in the industry for a long time and either talking with tech support or just figuring it out. I already have a Genie sensor issue video but I didn't cover to much info in it. So I thought I'd make a newer one. Stay safe out there bro 👊💯

Thank you! I checked and one of my wires was disconnected. I had been cleaning out my garage and must have hit it! Thumbs and thanks…I am a do fix it yourself woman. I love KZfaq videos, you saved me money! I am 71 years old and am always trying to fix something. I have a clogged cellar drain I am trying to fix. I dug my ditch out but think my pipe is clogged!

Damn! You just saved me a service charge! My Genie garage door wouldn't function for two days so I got on a ladder and unplugged it a couple of times. No response. Could not figure what was going on and couldn't solve the problem so I called the company. A technician was scheduled the next day. So it's 3:30 in the morning and I'm awake and I'm thinking why don't I check KZfaq? Your first suggestion was spot on! Turns out I'd had a young relative clearing out some dead leaves in the front yard and afterwards, he placed the broom and dustpan in front of the sensor! Thanks again!

Wow-thank you genius for helping me solve my Genie safety sensor issues. I tried for two hours to fix the problem but nothing worked. Came inside the house to order new sensors but checked your video first and tried switching the green and red sensors and that fixed it! My problem started when I installed a new Genie garage door opener, never thought about the new one causing interference. I just subscribed to your channel-thanks for taking the time to do this video for us do it yourselfers. 😀

You nailed it! I couldn't figure out what Genie meant by interference and it happened shortly after I had one of my openers replaced. I switched the green and reds on one door and went from Green Red Green Red to Green Red Red Green and problem was solved! I was getting real tired of manually opening my damn door every day before work. Thanks man!

Before that I tightened screws, used a q-tip to clean the sensor. You saying the green was the issue was on point. Much appreciated!😊

OMG! After a couple weeks of troubleshooting, you said something today that got me to check something I hadn't checked yet... you said make sure there are no staples in the wire. As soon as you said that, I paused the video took out all the staples that were holding the wire and viola!! The damn staples were causing interference! The green light was on one side, but the red light wasn't coming on the other side. As soon as I removed all the staples, the red light turned on. Thank you!!

I have two garage doors and I updated the more commonly used one to a newer and different brand. As soon as I did this the other garage door would not act right. It was blinking saying interference but I didn't know exactly what they meant by interference until I watch this video. I swapped the safe t sensors and she was happy again. Thank you I would never had though to swap the sensors. While I do not believe in coincidence and knew something with the new opener was messing with the old one. I learned now that those little sensors can mess with each other.

Came here looking for the interference problem. Same exact scenario on a new install, green to the left of red in the middle. Weird stuff like touching the sensor makes it go solid red. I figured it was some weird grounding issue but this makes sense. I will give this fix of swapping a try tomorrow!

@@maranatha4492 Were you able to fix yours? Mine had the same issue. one of the wires pulled out, i reconnected it and the red light flashed twice and then the light turned off and now it wont turn back on. I removed both wires and put them back in the same spots, still no red light :/

These sensor are absolute crap, I replace them regularly for failed IR emitter LED on my 4 Genies. Cheap bastards are running the LED at 100%, which kills it after a year or 2. On my 2nd set of sensors all around and last working one just failed. Is there a better sensor unit Genie makes? I use LiftMaster Commercial CPS-UN4 on the two 14' door lifts to replace the burned out sensors from those units as recommended by my garage door guy. Never had a problem again, but they are very expensive. Can I upgrade to the CPS-UN4 sensor on Genies?

Make sure the wires are connected to the terminals at the power head. No lights means no power going to them.

Hey genius I’m a technician here in Arizona, have you ever encountered a problem with the sensors where the door still closes when you interrupt Senors but when when you open the door and interrupt the sensors the door closes. Very weird. All wiring was good could it be bad sensors or bad logic board? I ended up replacing the unit but that was a first time encountering that problem. It was a genie

Eric that is a first for me. That's a very strange issue. To me it sounds like a logic board issue. That's definitely not a standard procedure for a Genie opener. That would have been a great video to see. Hope all is well out in Arizona my friend! 👊🏼

I appreciate the video. I had a bizarre malfunction. I hit wall switch on a genie 2028 got in my car and was backing out and the door reversed and came down on my vehicle puncturing a hole in my vehicle. I stopped, used the genie remote and it reversed. The system is 15 months old. It has a non garage door LED light, temperature had dropped 30 degrees overnight, but it was around 11 when it happened and sunny. Any thoughts on what could have caused this. The sensors work the next day when the installer came out. Any ideas

That is strange for it to reverse and come back down. You don't keep the remote in your purse by chance? Maybe accidentally triggered it.

So thanks for the tip. My red sensor was blinking 3 times. Sensors were clean and no obstructions. I switched the sensors. Red to left, green to right, and it worked! Door opens and shuts fine now. But it worked fine for years. So I don't get it. Why would switching the sensors fix the problem? It doesn't make sense inside of my simple mind.

Over the years sometimes they get sensitive. Not really sure why. I know sometimes direct sunlight causes that issue. A simple fix is exactly what you did. 👍🏼

I have a fairly old Genie set up with a more squarish sensor. The green light sensor is standing, and so is the red, but the red starts to blink when there is an obstruction, so I am assuming, hopefully correctly, that all is okay so far. My issue is that the door opens no problem, but it either starts to close and reverses itself, or closes, then reverses a few inches, then stops with no further movement either way. I've gotten the door to close only by exerting downward force on the handle to help close the door while it is shutting. I cleaned the lenses of the sensor, aligned them as best that I could. Should I just go ahead and order a new sensor? And are customers having luck with universal sensors, or should I stick with the Genie brand? Thank you.

Genie is a fantastic brand. They have been around a long time. I would adjust the Force Controls. Turn them clockwise in small increments. That gives the machine more muscle to push and pull.

@@garagedoorgenius Genius, it worked! I found it at 2.5 for the down force, and gradually increased it to 4.5, which eliminated the hesitations and abrupt stops and reversals. Thank you! The Home Depot Genie Safety Beam also arrived today. I was thinking I can keep it, in case mine, or my brother's or two sisters' garage door has sensor problems. The recommendation by you saved a lot of begonias. I also replaced the carriage trolley, as that was giving a grinding noise. The old trolley had only four rows of "teeth" left; everything else was ground down. Take care Genius, thank you.

Hey man, have this same unit. Got home today and only went up 1 foot. It will open fully if I hold the button inside the garage Maybe 1 out of every 8 to 10 times. If I leave it open 1ft and cover either sensor it will open another section, then click again and opens next section then 4th time and completely opens (this is putting my finger over either sensor). What in the world is happening? Lol 😆 Appreciate any feedback.

I figured it out, my greenside senor bolt was loose and when we closed it earlier it pointed down. When I repositioned it, it had somehow threw off the positioning to only open a foot each time the button was clicked. Did the force reset to full open and program and it's all good. Lol

Does the situation improve if you increase the force control? Those dials are located on the back of the machine. I would turn them up just a little bit and see what happens.

I went through all four steps that you did I have a genie model 3055 I installed a year ago it's worked great up until yesterday I swapped sensors from one side to the other the red one just keeps blinking three times red and so does the main motor unit thank you for your channel and your help I've subscribed help please should I buy new sensors or is there a way to reset everything thank you again

I'll have to look at my technical troubleshooting book. 3 flashes definitely means a certain issue. Can't remember right off hand. I'm thinking it's a wiring issue. I'm currently recovering from Covid, so give me a couple days.

Dim is ok. Older sensors will do that. As long as it's not blinking.

I found your video and said thank goodness, I have two 7055’s and one blinking 3 times. I tried switching them and didn’t work, switched red sensors and it worked on the other door so not the sensor. I switched everything, nothing works, still blinking 3 times. Customer service 2 hour hold time. Appreciate your video but didn’t work for me, not sure how to proceed other than throw tools and curse this blasted thing

My Genie wasn't working. The sensors seemed to be fine, with the green light and red light on. I read on the Internet that the lenses could be dirty. So I cleaned them thoroughly and the Genie worked again.

Sounds like they aren't getting power. Check the wiring up at the power head. Make sure the opener outlet is getting power.

And don't forget to check the wire connection at the motor. They do sometimes become unconnected or corroded.

Hey Genius, What about if both lights are on and the garage door would not stay close. It opens and close but bounce right back up. I have to press the button again so it remains closed. It was working perfectly fine before then this started. Please help :)

Sorry you're having issues. You definitely have a sensor issue. Make sure the wiring at the sensors are connected. You make have a broken wire or it just came loose.

@@gracewalrond3997 there should be two black dials located by the light bulbs. You will have to take the lens cover off. Those two dials represent muscle that the machine produces to push a door down and to pull a door up. They are labeled with an arrow. You may have to turn those up just a little bit. That will give the machine a little more muscle to push the door down. First and foremost make sure the door works manually perfect. Meaning that you can raise it up and down with no problems.

8 Wires & 4 Wires. I have 8 wires, 4 wires on each side. Directions Twist solid color wires together Twist stripe color wires together That makes 2 twisted wires on each side. Connected 2 twisted wires to top screw and 2 twisted wires to bottom screw. Test When wired right Geen LED is on (not blinking) and Red LED is on (not blinking) when sensors are alighted. Sensors are both off. Power is coming to the garage door opener. Remotes turn on light above door opener but the door doesn’t move. Wall switch moves it an inch forward and back. Normal Press. Used a electrical socket tester and no power is coming to the “power heads.” It’s a Phantom Door Opener.

If it's an older model there will be 2 dials that make the adjustment. They should be labeled.

Neither red not green light are lit at all and all wires look connected.. what to do next?

Out of the 2 sensors the green one should be on regardless. Double check the wire connections at the power head. Physically rewire if you have to at the terminals. You're not getting power to them.

@garagedoorgenius thanks. I just unplugged the main opener and replugged it after a few minutes, and the whole system reset. Works great now.

Throw it in program mode. Reset the up and down limits. Cycle the door a couple times after that. Flashing RED means incomplete limit setting.

Why do they use that junky cheap white wire ? They should have a bypass test switch , for testing purposes or emergency opening , there design don't seem very smart to me ?

It's just a low voltage wire. At least it's not braided. In an emergency situation the opener will always open. The sensors don't play a role in upward travel. Only going downward do the sensors have a role to play. I like your mindset though. Testing and a bypass switch. 👍🏼

My red light sensor is off. Green is on. Garage door is not working. All the wires are connected. Please, is there anything else that I can do?

If the red light is completely out, then there's no power going to it. If it's misaligned, then it will blink. Check the wiring again. Check it at the sensor and up at the machine. Either it's unplugged or the wire is broken somewhere.

8 Wires & 4 Wires. I have 8 wires, 4 wires on each side. Directions twist solid color wires together Twist stripe color wires together That makes 2 twisted wires on each side. Connected 2twisted wires to top screw and two twisted wires to bottom screw. Test When wired right Geen LED is on (not blinking) and Red LED is on (not blinking) when sensors are alighted. Sensors are not aligned Red LED blinks Wires 8 or 4 wiring.
