There is a more simple solution : stop and restart time when it's needed like it's been done in rugby since the last World Cup (2019) at least.

"It's arbitrary." How do you know that? If anything it seems your issue is that the remaining time isn't made public.
@Zayphar

This. The complaint is that the amount of stoppage time is not made public, and unless the coaches enquire, they don't know either. If this is such a simple thing, and Rich and the boys are blowing it out of proportion, why do professional football coaches bitch and whinge about this so often?
@tommytsunami4910
@tommytsunami4910 Жыл бұрын
Guys, minus the showing of the clock, that's exactly what the officials do lol. There's a 4th and 5th official who count the stoppage time. And even though us fans don't get the timer, players and coaches at any time can ask the officials and they tell them lol
@Zayphar

Then why do coaches complain about stoppage time so often? You seem to know this rule, but many professional football coaches act like they are oblivious, and thus the constant bitching and moaning/whinging.

I don’t really want to hear people who don’t watch soccer all year every year about rule changes. You guys only watch every 4 years. This is the most popular sports and been around over 100 years. If you guy just spend time and effort, and learn about the game, players, formations, positions and the different style of play amongst different countries, it’s truly amazing!!

As someone who, played through high school, watched MLS and some EPL, I had a thought a couple years ago of just stopping the clock for injuries. Other than that no changes. What do you think.

I hear that people say there's a 4th and 5th ref for stoppage time - but why is that time not displayed? What good reason is there to keep that number in the dark? The longer it stays in the dark - the longer people will be able to point at that and see possible corruption; Especially when the largest Football association is one of the most corrupt in sports. (FIFA) All we're asking for is some transparency and reason in the world's most popular sport.

Here's a better idea. Just stop the clock when play stops like most other sports do. No extra time. When 90 minutes is up, game over, no matter where the ball is, whether there is a corner or a free kick or a penalty to come. Too bad. Time is up.

Nah, he's missing that it's the same in the NFL: When the clock is in 0:00 you let the play finish. -but in soccer the ref then goes, "ok, I'll late you take the corner kick..." Well, in the NFL, even if the clock is in 0:00 and the play is over... if there's a defensive flag the game is not over, you have to let that play be played. Both sports are different, so it's not 1:1 comparison, but stoppage time is causing them way more trouble to get it than it should.

What are they even talking about? There is absolutely nothing wrong with how soccer matches are timed. The referee simply stops his watch during the game when there is lenghty stoppage and adds it back after the 90.
@Zayphar
@Zayphar Жыл бұрын
Um...I'm pretty certain this is not the way it is done. There are separate sideline officials that keep track of game stoppage. At least that is what is often claimed. No one outside the officials really know how it works in a real game.

The sheer level of ignorance of him saying stoppage time is arbitrary when there are literally 3 separate officials at the sideline with stopwatches adding it up is hilarious. At this point there American boomers will look for any reason to hate global football, hating it for being so respected and loved by humanity while their american football will never be relevant. Must really grind against their "american exceptionalism" worldview.
