Do you add any humidity to them? If so how long?

What temperatures for Silver Copper and Bronze Age do you use and time?
@ImmaculateComics3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the ambient humidity, the condition of the book, and the cleaning I gave to it prior to the pressing. a pretty standard bronze/silver is about 1.02 psi of pressure at 165 F for about 600 seconds and then rest to ambient temperature followed by a cold press under 0.02 psi for 8-10 hours.

Almost exactly my modern press style. I thought I was only one who warmed the bottom plate first. I do 150 F for 4 min with 4-6 hour cool down. The one thing that surprised me was how thick your buffering is. I do a backing board in the middle and 65lb card stock under the covers. You don't get cover pull away with the backing boards under the covers?

Jacob Champlin hi Jacob! great minds think alike! As long as I keep the temperature down the covers don’t get tacky on the boards. It’s takes longer, but it generally works. Occasionally I need to increase the temperature and in that case I use a sheet of micro chamber interleaving cotton paper.

I do 2x 110lb cardstock at center and 2 pieces of injet under front & back cover. Wont thicker buffers cause cover stretching?

Hi - what thickness is your elite aluminum sheet? Is 1/4 inch ok? Thanks

0.250" is far too thick for this use with most presses. with the right press its fine but unnecessary. with the wrong press it will create too much pressure and pop the staples. 0.100" is the max I use so I sell my boards that are 0.090" for a safety margin for thicker books.

Hey Rick, where online can i get those aluminum plates please?

OnlineMetals.com. 6061 Aluminum

Order them about ½" larger than your press on each side. I order them from and pick them up at their will-call desk. Which is literally just the size of a warehouse near some train tracks in Seattle. Shipping is expensive though because they can be heavy.

Do you need to use 6064 aluminum? All I can find is 5052 and 6061.

no they should both be just fine. You can also buy them precut from me at immaculatecomics.com

What is better, 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch thickness on the aluminum plate?
@ImmaculateComics Жыл бұрын
So long at the 1/16th is stiff and doesn’t flex it’s fine to use. I actually use 0.090” thick sheet stock because it heats up quickly and hold just enough heat to allow the books to come to ambient temperature in about 40 minutes, which is just about the right time
