I love this silly show. I always thought it was hilarious that the professor could make batteries for the radio out of coconuts, pedal powered washing machines out of palm trees and even tap a telephone cable, but could not repair the Minnow or build a boat with all the wood they had on the island.

I’m 61 years old and I remember when Gilligan’s Island was on CBS in prime time! In my life there has never been a show on television that has given me more entertainment than Gilligan’s Island in times of joy and in times of intense sorrow. Some people say that watching Gilligan’s Island is a total waste of time. I couldn’t disagree more! Sometimes you just need to veg. The slapstick comedy is priceless and goes back to vaudeville. And yet there are some profound lessons to be learned in every episode if you really look for them about human relations. The first episodes were filmed just after President Kennedy was assassinated, an event that shocked America and the world. Then came the Beatles. America needed a show like this and we need more shows like this in these days of political correctness. WWG1WGA God bless America and God bless Sherwood Schwartz for coming up with such a great show that has endured. Oh by the way, I vote Maryann over Ginger any day!

I met Gilligan (Bob Denver) in a Reno Nevada airport years ago. He was with his family. (I think his mother and sister if I'm not mistaken) I think they were on their way to Honolulu. He was a nice man. I didnt keep him long, afterall, he was with family in an airport and like the rest of us, needed to catch a flight. But he did stop when I walked up to him, the two ladys smiled, I told him before he could say a word, I said "I realize we're in an airport so I wont keep you, just wanted to say a quick hello, I love all your work and Ive watched every episode of Gilligan's Island. I'm so glad I got to meet you. This is a big thing for me" He put down his bag, shook my hand and smiled. He asked how I was doing and asked if my day was going well and where I was headed I told him Las Vegas for a company trip and I was meeting my sis. He smiled. We wished each other a good day. I let go of his hand and on our way we went. Watching Gilligan on tv so many years and then actually standing face to face with him, shaking his hand, saying hello and small chit chat was surreal. I've watched every episode. I love Gilligan's Island. It was surreal meeting him. Iconic. Come on man its Gilligan from Gilligan's Island. I mean Gilligan from Gilligan's Island can I say more, and he's shaking my hand, smiling and saying hello to me. Like I said, surreal. I was like..is this real? I love Gilligan.

I've noticed this! Only a few seasons but it felt like it went on throughout our childhoods! I think that's because of the quality of the stories and how much they pack into each episode, making it seem much larger in our memories. We forget most of the shows and episodes we watched, but somehow we remembered more of Gilligan's Island per episode, and thus feel like there's more there. A lot of other shows don't quite have the quality to episode ratio like GI does so more of the minute by minute goings on are far more often forgotten.

I loved seeing all of these , something to keep in mind when we were watching these in the 1960’s our TV’s were low res and usually only 12 or 14 inch screens at the most and of course the urban legend back then was we had to sit at least 6 feet away from the TV or we would hurt our eyes so these hard to catch bloopers were invisible to us but that makes it even more fun now seeing them in hidef!!

George Evs- I think they would have been hard pressed to get a decade worth of stories out of that island. Perhaps on a five or six year run, tops, they might have been rescued, and returned to the island, as they did in their later specials; But a decade worth of business as usual? I don't think they would have been able to pull that off. Of course, I could be wrong. Interestingly, it's my understanding they were enjoying their highest ratings during their third season when CBS decided to unceremoniously end the series. A strange reaction by a network that lives or dies by the ratings system.

I think I read the producers saw that as a nod to the Laurel and Hardy-like chemistry between the Skipper and Gilligan. Oliver Hardy would do those slow-burn looks right into the camera whenever Stan Laurel would do something to irritate him, so they had Alan Hale do the same thing.

Look at the very opening of "The Odd Couple" TV series, season 5, with Jack Klugman & Tony Randall. The opener has a bunch of shots of Klugman & Randall out and about NYC, at their jobs and in the apartment. There is a :05 second shot of both of them standing in the kitchen. As Klugman has his back against the main camera, standing in front of the kitchen sink washing his hands, Randall is standing right next to him, yelling & balling him out for some silly chore he forgot to do, etc, and as Klugmann finishes washing his hands, he can't find a paper or kitchen towel to dry them off, so he starts to use the kitchen curtains to do so! Randall quickly chastises Klugman for doing so, so he then turns and pulls the tails of Randall's shirt out of his slacks and proceeds to dry his hands on his shirt tails! Randall does an EXCELLENT slow turn to the audience, aka "The 4TH Wall", and 'spikes' the camera and almost looses it with laughter! EXCELLENT, just excellent! BCRadio

Wow! First of all, it is so refreshing to know that a young man like you loves 'Gilligan's Island' so much. I grew up watching this show (in reruns-I'm a little 'too young' to have watched it first run; I was born in '63, the same year it started). I have very comforting memories of watching this show after school and with my older brother. It's nice to know that not everyone in younger generations is totally cynical and that something as clean and wholesome as 'Gilligan' can still be enjoyed by many generations. Also, the bloopers! Wow. That is a keen, keen eye you have and it was a lot of fun seeing those little props that we weren't supposed to see. I especially liked seeing the studio buildings behind the lagoon. Thank you and this was totally fun and entertaining. :)

These are great finds. Gilligan's Island and Flipper were two of my favorite shows back in the 1960's, and I watched them well into syndication along with other TV greats like The Andy Griffith Show, Happy Days and Carol Burnett. Come the 1980's I got to enjoy them a second time around when they became favorites of my own kids. My favorite shows of the 60's came full circle when my children started watching them, and my wife and I loved being able to experience them a second time.

Russel Johnson wrote in his book that scenes for the opening theme for the 1st (black and white) season were filmed on Nov. 22, 1963. A U.S. flag at half mast is visible as the boat heads out on its "three hour tour" in footage shot in Hawaii, where it was still morning when the news of the president's death arrived.

Bloopers around the edge of the frame, such as the Studio Center buildings showing above the lagoon, are not mistakes. They are only visible in transfers from the 35 mm print. Home televisions always cut off the edges in a process known as overscan. This was to provide clean cutoffs without finely adjusting the electronics.

My buddy, Bob D'Arcy, was very close friends with Bob Denver and was, in fact, his stand-in and also played the robot in the episode, "Gilligan's Living Doll". There's one that you missed! It was the one where the Skipper was trying to prepare Gilligan to take command should anything happen to the Skipper. In the scene where Gilligan is leading a march, he's wearing the Skipper's hat. He falls off a cliff but hangs onto a tree branch growing out the side of the cliff. However when the camera shows him doing that, GILLIGAN IS WEARING HIS OWN HAT!!!

I am a Huge Fan of Gilligan's Island as well! I grew up watching this show too, as a matter of fact, I would venture to say that I Never Missed an episode! Even though I had seen Every one of them, I would still watch them to this day if it is on & I'm 54 years old! Gilligan's Island is the Perfect Example of Good Ole "Family" TV, and So Much Better than any of the "Trash" that "Plagues" our TV'S today! A few more to mention are; Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke, Dick VanDyke Show, Bonanza, Little House on the Prarie & The Waltons...just to name a few. The "Sexy Outfits" that Ginger wears most episodes were considered "Scandalous" back then, man I Miss those "Good Morals & Values" on TV today! Young People just don't know what they are missing out on, even though they Could watch them on TV Land today, but sadly, they would have to be Hog-Tied for them to watch these types of programs and that's what's wrong with the Youth today, they are not, for the most part, taught/raised with Moral Values, Respect or Compassion for Others. The Youth today is only interested in Themselves & what the World can do for them or what it Owes them! I have personally heard, with my Own ears, Teenagers claim that their own Parents Don't Deserve their Respect, they have to Earn it & that their parents Owe the Teenagers Respect, now if that isn't BassAkwards! I Totally Blame the Parents for not taking the time to raise them with the "Much Needed" Morals & Values that are Necessary to Produce Upright, Compassionate, Self-sustaining, Independent & Trust Worthy Human Beings, like All the Generations before them. I Truely hope that I am Long Gone when this Generation is Running this Beautiful Country that the Past Generations have worked Sooo Hard to Maintain, because they won't know how to, or Care to, solve any Problem Unless it's attached to a Nintendo/X-Box or Smart Phone App that Directly Affects them & their Wallet, even then they'll be Making Mommy & Daddy to Fix it for Them, if they haven't Killed Them yet (sorry, that was in somewhat bad taste, but True alot these days). Ok, I'm done Ranting & Raving, for Now!

I know there were a couple of other bloopers. One was when the Gilligan Russian look alike spy was on the island and he and Gilligan were doing the "mirror" scene. At one time, they each lift up their right hands (I believe it was their right ones and not their lefts), but in so doing, if you're in a mirror lifting your right hand, your mirror "image" is going to be lifting the left hand. There's another blooper, but it's not coming to mind right now! Thanks for the video!
