The song does have a catchy tune, but his voice is very weak. This is the first time I have heard his music and I do not expect that his will be a long career. One-hit wonder seems more likely. If you listen to someone like Theuns Jordaan, Richard van der Westhuizen or Koos du Plessis you will hear the difference. Or Lize Beekman, if you enjoy female voices.

@christo bosman Success with some catchy tunes that are sexually suggestive does not change the fact that his voice is weak and his training does not appear to make up for it 🤷‍♀️ I never once said that anyone should (exclusively) listen to specific artists. I said to listen to other artists (and recommended specific ones) to hear the difference. She could just as easily listen to Fokoff Polisiekar to hear the difference between this and a combination of talent, training and practice.

If we are going to evaluate my musical expertise, then perhaps we ought to evaluate if you are able to tell if he has a strong voice and good training. I highly doubt that you do, but that is also my opinion that I am entitled to. He does not need me to run him down 🤷‍♀️ It is his choice to oversexualize a caricature of an Afrikaans woman. I will note that he is not exactly what one might consider traditionally attractive himself. That is something I would never even have dreamed of mentioning otherwise, but it is relevant here because of his artistic choices. It is a very successful and popular recipe started by Willie Esterhuizen. He employed it from Kaalgat Tussen Die Daisies to Vetkoek Paleis to Poena is Koning to Vaatjie Sien Sy Gat. The popularity and success of those movies and shows do not entitle them to be called the best works of Afrikaans literature. 🤷‍♀️ I am not suggesting that he has no talent at all. If he wrote the music himself, then he certainly is. But call a spade a spade. Robbie Wessels does not have the best voice I have ever heard either, but his voice is unique and he clearly knows how to make the most of it, particularly when you listen to his older ballads.

@christo bosman Whether I have a sense of humour, whether this is my thing or not (you do presume a lot about my tastes) and whether or not I have a chip on my shoulder has no relevance as to whether he has a good voice or not. His artistic choices, on the other hand, are relevant. Showmanship is often used as makeup of sorts. Why do you think that handyman guy did so well in Strictly Come Dancing years ago? Not because he was a talented dancer. He was anything but. It was because he was highly personable, if slightly goofy, and because he trusted his pro partner to put on a truly remarkable show for every episode. She was a fantastic choreographer and their costume design was devine. I do not know if he composes his own music or not, but the music deserves credit. The lyrics aren't something to rave about and he does not have the voice of someone like Bok. He could do very well with Worsie Visser's music, but I just heard his rendition of Boesmanland and even there it seems he (or his manager, I would not know) believes he needs to rely on vulgar innuendo.
