Riding A Chicken Bus from Guatemala City to Antigua

You shouldn't visit Guatemala City without at least one trip in a Chicken bus. These are buses that were donated to Guatemala by The United States. The locals painted and pimped out their rides, souped up the engines and turned them into hot rods that any road warrior would be proud of.
Today I travel on one of these chicken buses from Guatemala City to Antigua. A one hour trip for $2.50.

my best recommendation to you is after get down from the chicken bus...just check this beautiful beach view just to keept relaxing a little bid i was use that buses before and they really driving to fast regards.

No it's in the middle of the city. I can't remember what it's called but you should take an Uber or Taxi there. Ask anyone where the central bus station is and they will know.

TBH, I'd love to say it's safe. But if you're a Gringo you need to stay in designated areas after dark. Antigua is much safer. Maybe go there.

30 pesos I think. It's about $2-3. You pay after getting on.

correct those buses are purchased and then driven to guatemala. nothing is free

The decommissioned school buses are purchased at auction in the U.S. They are towed to Guatemala and refurbished. There is a documentary about this called La Camioneta. Although all gringos call them chicken buses, it's kinda sorta derogatory, so It would be nicer to call them by the local term camioneta, especially if you want to ask a local which bus goes where, or where to wait for a specific one.

@@LMDinNC I am from guatemala. They are called chicken busses because they are the only ones you are allow to take chickens with you. When I was a kid I used to take those buses to go see my grandparents and they often gave me a chicken to take to my mom in the city

Dude, why not include some practical information like where to catch the bus from, what to ask for, what to watch out for etc etc? The shots of the view from the bus was just un-necessary.
