Facts. I played pro basketball in Kawasaki. Flying coach was better than many domestic us first class flight. The buses are cleaner. The trains are more modern, more efficient and beautiful. I was in Japan in the early 90s and the trains back then are still better than Amtrak today and the domestic flights have gotten worse. What's said is. Amtrak trains aren't even packed. So it would be better to reduce seats, upgrade the interiors and charge a little more.

Your comments about what you consider expensive in Japan tells me that either I could live like a king there, or inflation in the US is much worse than I thought. Probably both. Thank you for airways being entertaining.

the USD-JPY exchange rate is very good, and inflation in Japan has also been low, probably from the same economic causes. Somewhere between both and a third but similar option!

Japan had almost 20 years of light deflation. The poverty level is also extremely high (around 16%, double of the average countries of EU). While the country is a strong economy, the average living condition isn’t better than in the US or Europe. And with the inflation touching Japan recently like in the rest of the world price increase are heavily felt by the population. Japan is a strong economy but with a weak currency. Making it a nice place to travel for foreigners, but doesn’t help the inhabitants.

I can’t believe how affordable hotel rooms are in Japan! 4,000 yen / $27 USD? That isn’t possible here. My family (2 adults, 1 teenager) went out of town last weekend. We got a rather common hotel room with 2 queen beds - $249 per night. And they didn’t have a breakfast included or anything!

5490yen including the upgrade to first class? That's a great deal considering the standard class Shinkansen is 5940yen (non-reserved seat). Sure this train is an hour slower, but that level of comfort and the view our the front is something you can't get on the shinkansen. Plus, the shinkansen is removing food and drink service unless you pay for green car, which is another 3000yen on top! Definitely going to consider this next time I'm in Japan.

Ha that Eel dish is a good way to make your customers also slow down when eating, if they follow the directions. Splitting it into 4 and having you eat it different ways allows for one to feel more full if they don't just rush each section.

Since the resting seat is near the locker, I think it's good if you have something to get from your suitcase or travel bag which is pretty cool! I really admire Japanese technology, transport design or anything that every Japanese citizen needs in making their lives much easier and comfortable. At the same time I also admire the Japanese business or the Japanese gov't who really cared for others needs! Yes businessmen of course earns, while the gov't also earns from citizen's taxes however, they provides comfort for everyone that you get your money worth! Amazing!!
