One thing people need to remember is that this is a couchette train, not a sleeper train, and Snälltåget's main target group are young people travelling together. So the quality onboard is never gonna be the same as on a Nightjet service.

Thank you as always for a nice video Kuga! I'm sorry your experience with Snälltåget wasn't better considering the steep price (rip wallet). If you come to Sweden again I recommend taking the X2000 between Stockholm-Gothenburg or Stockholm-Malmö. It's our fastest train and quite cozy in first class. Happy travels!

Very nice trip report! Also that bird at the station in Stockholm is a Jackdaw. Its a small corvid bird, so in the same family as crows. They're quite smart birds and often live in big colonies by train stations or residential areas together with rooks, another crowlike bird that's all black with a grey beak. You'll often find rooks and jackdaws together with hooded seagulls at transit hubs in scandinavia as they scour the area for leftover food by humans, or use human vehicles like buses and cars to crack open things like nuts.

18:00 Malmö Central is mostly a through station with trains going in the Citytunnel under the city of Malmö. Night trains, some long distance and local trains still use the old station above ground. At 18:15 you see the beginning of the tunnel. An other odd fact, while the rest of Swedens trains ride on the left side of double tracks, trains switch to right side tracks before Malmö so they are on same side when entering Denmark :)

I have been amazed by this series how Kuga can produce such insightful and generally positive videos on his experience in Europe, yet half the comments are complaining about the trains, "apologising" for x, or making inaccurate comparisons to other services. Crazy when that is not the tone Kuga uses at all! He just presents it as it is. Anyway, some of the complaining I'm seeing: 1. On the cost, he bought the equivalent of 6 tickets to book out that compartment. That invalidates all comparisons on cost. People then saying "you paid so much and got that service?" Yes, if I bought 6 economy seats on an aeroplane, I don't suddenly get business class service, I just get 6 in flight meals. Sleeping on a row of economy seats on a plane also is not equivalent to a lie down business class bed, and the same is true here. A comparison with Japan would be buying 6 nobi nobi seats on the sunrise express and expecting the same service as a duluxe room. 2. Having said that, while couchettes are not the most comfortable to sit on, and most are really old now, as beds I think they are fine. I am currently on a trip across Europe and was on a couchette last night and it was better than several of the hotels I had been on (not a very high bar but they are really not as bad as they look. OBB's pillows suck though). 3. I even saw a comment on how the train was not sitting on the platform for any real time before leaving Berlin. (and obviously confused Kuga, understandable for the first time). I don't see how this is a "problem". The board said when the train was leaving, the train left then. These aren't rail tours or cruises, these are scheduled intercity services and Berlin HBF is not a small quiet station that can have a platform occupied by a train for longer than is needed. 4. And on the comments of the train being "old and dirty". No argument about it being old and like every travel enthusiast look forward to seeing what OBB do with the new Nightjet stock. Though I will caution that Caledonian Sleeper got new stock in the last few years and it has resulted in horror stories with its reliability, so appreciate as Kuga does at the end, that you at least get to your destination. I've yet to understand the "dirty" comments in most of these videos, the stations yes but the train interiors seem fine and the exteriors could be better but I'd rather the trains are actually out and doing a service than be polished museum pieces. The best one was the comment on the Eurostar video that the front of the train was dirty. Yes, that happens after you run at 300kph for 2.5 hours during summer. All I can say it that I look forward to visiting Japan, a country where the flies are considerate enough to not get in the way of the trains! Again, good to see that Kuga is not his commentators and appreciates and shows us his different experiences (good and bad!).

Another wonderful video - as usual! I felt sorry for you when you arrived in your room in the dark! Scandinavia is often dark, but trains should have an easy-to-find light-switch! And again, I felt SO sorry that you were given the same bread for supper as you got for breakfast! Denmark (particularly) is very famous for its pastries (and Danish people eat them for breakfast). I would have expected you to receive a pastry (or Danish bacon, which is also famous!) I love your sub-titles on screen and the beautiful way you phrase the words. Like all Japanese people, you are very kind - even when things are not quite right! Thanks again!

I saw a lot of your videos during the pandemic so it's cool to suddenly see you've been filming in my hometown of Stockholm! If you ever come back you need to try out the ferry boats in the archipelago. Would definitely be your kind of thing. Love your videos as always!

It was so dark! Didn't seem as clean or cozy as some of the other sleeper trains you've been on...Though the dining car looked elegant. It seems like it was a very interesting experience! Thanks, Kuga!

Trains that run six-sleepers are just a different mode of transport. More of an adventure than a luxury.

Great video! The bird isn't a Swedish crow, its' a western jackdaw (Coloeus monedula).

Nice video! When I saw your midnight snack I cried. I love seeing the bento boxes you choose. As for the train compared to the japanese ones it looked old, worn out and downright filthy. That window in your cabin.... ewh... I find the price you paid for something so basic exorbitant. As always you were kind and respectful. Imo the lunch looked acceptable at best, but I loved hearing your opinion. And I think we need more respectful, tidy tourists who clean after themselves instead of unruly loud drunkards. The Japanese sleeper trains already looked comfortable, and the Swedish took what worked and applied to their trains 🚅😴

The Europeans can learn a lot about aesthetics and comfort from the Japanese.

Nice video Kuga - as always 🙂 and I hope you had a great time in Scandinavia. I know it is still pretty early when the train crosses the Great Belt, but it is for sure also a stunning sight. Knowing that you also like ferries: Next time you are in beautiful Stockholm, take the overnight ferry to either Helsinki or Turku/Åbo in Finland. The Stockholm archipelago is, in my eyes, the most scenic and beautiful maritime environment 😀 and the ferries from Viking Line/Silja Line are really top of the range when it comes to car ferries and not dedicated cruise ships. It’s beautiful video....... i love it. Quiet, breezing, bring the situation out there into my room. .....amazing.

I got to experience this train ride back when the train rode onto a ferry. It was a very strange experience being on a train that rolls onto a boat, and then being able to exit the train and hang out on the boat for the duration of the boat ride, then back down to the train when the boat starts getting close to shore. I believe this current route is temporary and that it will go through the Fehrman Belt Tunnel when it's completed.

"I'm afraid this might be the wrong platform" - well nice to see you got to enjoy the usual charm of going by train in germany ;) surprisingly the train seemed to arrived at the right time, not an hour later! The pattern of the seats is common in germany, seems like this part was a german train once, the overall design reminds me of older german trains. The seats seem to have seen many passengers... Beeing waken up at 2am by the Border Police wouldn't be my ideal night, but I like that you enjoyed the trip nonetheless. Keep your positive attitude! :)

Welcome to Scandinavia! As a Dane I would drive to Stockholm, but the train looks amazing too. I didn’t even knew we had such nice trains here! Haha. Looking forward to watching your Scandinavian videos!

i love this long sleeper train rides, i come from Stuttgad but live now in norway and i take this trains evry year 2-3 times to visit family. It is so effortless, i even can play CS:GO with my friends on my laptop haha

I have been to Stockholm many times before the pandemic and am very familiar with Stockholm Central Station. I miss Stockholm. It is one of my favorite cities. So beautiful, especially (of course) in summer. There used to be a direct flight from Los Angeles where I live, to Stockholm. So it was very convenient.

It must be hard, scary and exciting to travel through Europe. All the different languages is hard enough. But English seems to be a life saver! I guess now you have a much better appreciation for the bullet trains of Japan! You have undoubtedly the best trains and rail staff in the world in Japan. When you get home, you'll have to ride one just to shake off the trains of the EU!! Great video! 🙂

Back in the early 2000s when I took the opposite direction, it was "The Berlin Night Express" and the train car was loaded on a ferry. One did not sleep well with so much activity!

I would love to do this journey! The only parts I've done before is getting the train a little north of Hamburg to visit friends, and the section between Copenhagen and Malmo. I would say though that I love Hamburg too much to just go through it without stopping, I'd probably need to spend a few days there and then do the sleeper after the visit. Copenhagen and Malmo are both well worth a visit too, though Copenhagen is the most expensive place I've ever visited (probably still cheaper that Switzerland though!). The bird at the end is a Jackdaw, they're a type of crow and are extremely clever. There are lots of them where I stay and they get to know peoples' faces, so they don't fly away from me anymore!

Heh, you keep showing me memories from my youth! Many years ago, my family did a big tour of Scandinavia by car (I would have preferred rail but not my parents). On the third day, we went from Germany to Sweden. In the evening, we found a camping place near Tranås. I well remember when, coming from Lake Vättern on a small road, we reached the main railway in a valley lit beautifully by the low Sun - and you included a clip just at that spot at 21:24 - 21:38!!!

@16:32 Technically speaking, while you were on the Oresund bridge, you were in Sweden. The border between Denmark and Sweden ends just about whether by car or train you have left Perberholm and start entering the bridge section.
