Very good video, thank you. Regarding the HF jack and rolling, lubrication is our friend. My 12 year old HF jack passed on to my son has been left out in the rain as sons do, and rolls like a dream. Just turn it upside down, drip a little oil on the axles and the ball bearings for the castors. Then the best part: Squeeze some #00 grease into the races for the bearings. #00 grease is also called "Cotton Picker Grease" and using it there makes a huge difference. I get it at Tractor Supply. Regular grease may do the same thing, but I use #00 in many places.

Really good video! I have had my Pittsburgh jack for 6 years. I have also used it for other uses. Example: pulling out 4x4 fence post. I picked up the jack and slid down over the 4x4 post. Then I drilled a horizontal hole in the post and put a stick of rebar through. And jacked her up. It was a lot easier than digging in the hard ground. Jack held up great!

Thanks for the feedback! I have found a nice central position for my bike (when the bags are on) and it lifts evenly. I tried lifting an older Honda 750 and it wasn't balanced very well. I saw a motorcycle lift on JoeGoes Motorcycle Adventure KZfaq page. I really like that lift. I may get that in the future.

Best thing about the HF jack is that you can buy it today. They have 2 different models. The one in this video is the lower cost model. In my opinion it is the better of the two because of the foot release.

As of August 23, 2022, I have no jack, no idea when it will show up, no response to my email inquiry (website asks for email over phone call) and I'm out of 1099$ as it stands right now. I have a Pittsburg jack and it works quite well. The important thing with these jacks is to give them a thorough inspection before you use them. Sometimes they are sent out with little or no fluid in them. I always use automatic transmisson fluid in mine. Also check all the bolts and welds to make sure they are tight and up to par.

I have one of these. I don’t use it. Have not used it for 20 over years. It’s in the way no matter which side you put it on if you are working on the Engine, the clutch, the starter, the slave cylinder, the stater, the starter, the jacking mechanism has to go somewhere, it’s either on the left or the right, and it always seems to be in the way even if I’m working on the other side of the engine.. you can’t even change the oil in most motorcycles using this Jack because it’s where the oil pan Hass to go and you don’t have access to the drain plug a lot of times or the oil filter because this thing is in the way.. The fact that it is on wheels makes for it to be unstable. You have to use straps, and they are in the way a lot of the time.. this store is more useful for working on four wheel vehicles like lawnmowers or quads, and even then, it’s in the way on one side or the other.. I find that the motorcycle scissor lift Jack, that is how you search for that part on eBay is just about the best I have seen. I have a video of it on my channel actually holding up my Yamaha royal star venture while I have the front wheel off. It weighs about 28 pounds, and it is completely under the motorcycle. It has two adjustable saddles that you can place directly under the frame on both sides.. I discovered these jacks that I am recommending while watching a KZfaq video of a company called TRAXXION dynamics well they had the front end off of a GL 1800 gold one. A 900+ pound motorcycle. I’ve been using mine for three years now, it’s completely out of the way, even if you want to pull the engine.. it cost under $70 last time I checked on eBay with free shipping.. i’m sure the Jack in this video has its uses, but I’ve had mine since the 1990s, and the two times that I did use it, it was a pain in the ass because I was afraid I was gonna knock my bike over. It was never stable and I had to use lots of straps..In fact, mine has only been used twice, I would sell it for $25 to get it out of my garage. it’s been standing on end behind my welder since the 1990s gathering dust..It is a craftsman brand, same design

Great review, I was looking at the J&S video and yours came up in the side window... The J&S website now states 8 to 12 weeks for delivery, and price is close to $740.00 with shipping even with a 10% discount for black Friday.. Without the discount I'm paying $800. Not sure I can rationalize that even though I really try and avoid HF stuff... I have a HF store 10 minutes from my home (doesn't everyone) so not having to wait 3 months to get my jack is also a factor.. I also have a welder and fabricating tools and think with a couple hours I could remedy a couple of the HF short comings. Really dig the Mustang also ! Ride safe man!!

I have used many jacks over the years. I bought a J&S last year because my ex-HF jack wasn’t sturdy enough to lift my GoldWing safely for my comfort. It could have been my imagination but it was too wobbly for my liking. I am ok with the HF jack for my Electra Glide, but my son has it now. I know the J&S is pricey, but it is worth every penny in my opinion. If you’re a vet, J&S gives a discount. I think they state 5%, but I got 10% off when I called them. I would suggest waiting for their free shipping sales, if they still offer that. The reason it’s taking 8 to 12 weeks is because they are having a supply issue getting steel if I remember correctly. I also spoke to Steve a few times. Great guy! I had to wait a few months too.

I’m looking to get another more stable lift, with better access to the drain plugs for when I service my bike. It looks like the lift rails on the J&S are more narrow, and further apart. Both of these lifts, seem to be more stable than the version that I have currently. Thanks for the review.

Great and impartial review. $700.00 V $100.00 for a Harbor Freight/Pittsburgh. I went with the Pittsburgh and replaced the wheels with a set of polyurethane wheels with ball bearing centers. I can easily spin my RK and EG in a 360, but for safety's sake I have the bike in the low position. I've never seen a HF jack break the stops, but I had access to a mig welder so I ran a continuous bead along the backside of all my stops. After 6-7 years I've never experienced an issue. Thanks for the review.

I use my Harbor Freight Jack to lift my bike and set it on my K&L Dolly, then it is super stable. Crank it up, hop up on it, I mean SUPER STABLE. Roll it around with ease anywhere in the garage. Roll it out in the driveway and wash/dry it, roll everything back in the garage. Easiest and safest way there is. Sit comfortable on a creeper seat, work, service, and clean with ease.

I purchased an unbranded jack in 2004 to lift my 2004 Harley Davidson Fatboy, in an eBay auction, I bid $59.00 on that jack and won bid on the jack. It has served me well. I now lift my 2007 Harley Davidson Fatboy with this jack, no problems. It also has anchor points on each leg for tie down straps, I sometimes use them to steady the motorcycle. The only detractor I have found is getting the lift bars centered between the frame rails side to side. When there is at least some lift bar exposed on each side of the motorcycle, then it can be safely lifted. I will be using my jack soon, as I will be replacing the compensator with an compensator eliminator gear kit, and inspecting the cam chain hydraulic tensioners for excessive wear. The bike has 46K on it.

I have both. The Pittsburgh Jack t-handle broke off at the mount where the t-handle slides into it, in part because of the extra force it takes to move it with a bike lifted on it. You’re right about the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh wheels being not so great. I welded the T-handle mount up and reinforced it and it functions just fine again. Is the J&S better? Absolutely. Does the additional cost and wait time justify the difference in quality? In my humble opinion… Nope. I went ahead and bought the red full size harbor freight motorcycle lift when they were on sale for about half the price of my j&s. Best money spent in terms of convenience to work on your bikes. Unfortunately, bigger footprint in the garage though. Great comparison video.

I've had my harbor freight jack for about 15 years. It's the next level up and they still sell it in a different color for ~$200. I have never had an issue with it, but have to squirt some oil in the casters periodically. As for the cost, Pittsburgh is a Harbor Freight brand. Harbor Freight has their own factory in China for some products and contracts others out. They are handling the entire supply chain themselves, keeping the costs down. I have that same Jack I bought it in 2008. I’ve had many jacks over the years. And you must put the locks on it. Set it down on the locks that makes the bike a lot more stable. My bike sits like that all winter I will run around. I’ve also climbed up on it. Also, that is a family owned company American company with a lifetime warranty. All but the jack the bottle jack they don’t give you a lifetime warranty on that. I don’t know what they want for now but they were $32. So I need my bike jacked up off the ground all winter. A good thing to do is spray the piston with some fluid fill or WD-40 so it doesn’t. Rust over the winter. And if you have used any type of jacks, you don’t turn them wide open to set your car down or your bike or anything else like that. Q what’s up man
