No one is going to believe this story, but I used to own Alicia's main guitar. It started out as a butterscotch yellow Squier 51 that I bought off of Craigslist as a mod project for around $250. I took it to John at Bluesman and he put the new relic'd sea foam green finish on it and installed a set of Lace Alumitone pickups. He also drilled holes in the back of the guitar so and installed a string-through bridge. I also requested that he replace the Squier logo with a Bluesman logo (which he no longer does - and didn't want to do at the time, but I nagged him until he relented). I got the guitar back a few weeks later and fell in love with how it looked and felt, but the Lace pickups didn't do it for me. That guitar sat dormant for about a year until I sold it (not to Alicia) on Craigslist, for probably $300. Not sure what happened after that, but one day about 2 years ago I was at the Bluesman shop buying a new Strat and John told me my old guitar had become "famous". He showed me a Bully video with Alicia playing it and I was stunned. I never thought I'd see it again! Alicia - I'm so happy you love this guitar. It's surreal to seeing you play it and I'm so glad it's in good hands!

Personally I watch these Rundowns to hear experienced players talk about gear, and her gear knowledge smokes some of the dudes in other PG videos. Another embarrassing comments section that just make women feel less included in rock. This lady's out there living that tour life while a bunch of bedroom guitarist keyboard warriors pitch in on her video.
@DBSG1976
@DBSG1976 6 жыл бұрын
Women that are successful will not be stopped by commentary, by their very nature they won't give a damn what others think of them. Men face the same kind of critical commentary and if we truly want women to be equal, then it must be acknowledged that they will be attacked by keyboard warriors and trolls. Silencing critics because they are throwing their vitriol at women just signals that women aren't strong enough to handle it and that is absurd and sexist. The reality of fame is that people will hate you because of your success.

I love all the haters talking shit about her guitar playing from their computers, while she's actually a touring professional musician. Maybe you should calibrate your expectations about what "good" guitar playing sounds like. Seems like it's working for them, seeing as their signed to Sub Pop.

I saw these guys at SPF30 recently and noticed that guitar she was playing and for the life of me couldn't come to a consensus of what it was. I thought that she frankensteined/modded it herself. It's good that she cleared that up because I wanna find something similar. More than anything, its a rather unconventional PU configuration...half-Tele, half-Paul... Also, forget the haters. Enjoy the band. They kick serious ass live and you're missing out if you haven't seen them perform. I felt like the interviewer was dumbing things down with the questions. I have a serious feeling that she knows a hell of a lot more about gear than he was willing to explore. I mean, I would have never heard of Earthquaker pedals if it wasn't for her.
