Max and I rig 'Nuthatch', our Compac-19, and launch it for the season. While it's absolutley possible to rig and launch this boat with only one person, having even a kid with you helps in those situations where you can't quite reach something or need an extra pair of hands.

Heartwarming to watch a Dad with his budding sailor learn the "lines" in launching. Well done, Dad. He'll always remember helping you. You both have many sails ahead of you and you'll have the video for posterity's sake.

I am considering a Compac and I appreciate seeing the reality of rigging the boat. Love the "voyage" music. Good job you two.

We always seem to forget a life vest or two, so our boat is now equipped with many extras. If you ever find yourself assisting a sinking boat that is loaded with people, you will be glad you brought as many extra PFD's as would fit on the boat.

We usually keep the life vests on board, but I take them out over the winter and store them inside. I had the inflatable with me since I keep that it my sailing bag to avoid moisture.

I know, I know! The Admiral already scolded me. The good news is I found their life jackets before the next time we went out. The bad news is that they've grown and I really need to buy new ones.

3:13, "oh yes little man if the deck organizer was not there the jib halyard would cross the galley deck lid and you wouldn't be able to move it and get in or get out when the sheets gets under load of the wind, Plus just take a look at the deck organizer right there there's multiple placements for different halyards and sheets"

Indeed. One of my best decisions was to color code when I replaced the running rigging. You rarely go wrong with "pull the blue one!"

If ever a sailboat needed a backstay release the Compac is it. Off the wind sailing performance for those who don't know what the release is for.

Without a centerboard the shoal keep goes upwind like a pig. There's a bunch of things the Compac is good at. Performance.... Not really one of them.

I have just acquired a Compac 19 and am having a heck of time raising the mast. Can you share in detail how you are using the jib halyard to help raise the mast ?

Hello! Our boat has the halyards run to the cockpit, so we have a winch and rope clutch they run through. I clip the halyard to the bow (where the forestay attaches) and take up the slack as I raise the mast. I don't really as much raise the mast with it as I use it to hold it once I've gotten it up there. It's light enough that I can lift it up myself from standing in the cockpit.
