In this tutorial, we will rig the low-poly vehicle in Blender for Unreal Engine 4. I will use Blender 2.82, but newer versions also should work.
This is the fifth part of the tutorial series on how to create a low poly vehicle for Unreal Engine 4 using Blender and other free software.

Hi, thanks for this cool addon. I tried also to rig my doors, but the doors are seperate meshes. Anyways, i tried it. But no luck. the bone is there, but the door not attached to the bone. Did i a mistake, or does it work only, if the door is a port of the root? best regards michael EDIT: Problem fixed, i merged the door after rigging to the root. And it works. Thanks for this easy plugin. :D

when I do the rig, the origin of some wheels changes and is no longer centered based on the geometry.

Bone is no more at the center of wheel? If you used the addon to rig, it should set the bone at the center of the mesh geometry. Maybe your mesh has some vertices left outside of it so it messes with the geometry center calculations.

Is your unit scale in blender set to 0.01? There's a button in the addon for setting the unit scale to right one and for upscaling objects after the scale is changed.

Very cool addon and tutorials - Thank You. Could you consider to add functionality to this addon to create some simple spring suspension? e.g: On the example of this vehicle a spring placed on the axle, stiffened from above. So wheel, axle and spring will act accordingly to surface in ue4. Thank you for your work.

isn't it possible to bind multiple mesh parts to the root bone? (suppose i want to keep my cars body part separate say front and rear bumber so that i can disable/swap them later in the game) how will i achive this ?

The easiest way would probably be to add those parts to your vehicle blueprint as separate static meshes that you can easily change on the fly. If those parts might have some animation or something like that, then probably you want to set them up as separate skeletal meshes or you can have all meshes rigged to one skeleton and use master pose for all of them. @@ContinueBreak thanks i'll try what you said. One more thing whenever i rig the vehicle myself (without using your script) i get missing bind pose error in UE4 for all 4 wheel bones. What would i be missing?

If rigging with the addon doesn't have that error, then probably there's no issue with your export settings from blender. I also have a tutorial on how to rig it without the addon: continuebreak.com/articles/how-rig-vehicle-blender-28-ue4/

I am taking external 3d models but it's not rigging properly. Have I done the right step or should I make 3d model of my own 3d model rather than external 3d model.

Does your external models have vehicle body as single object and each wheel as another object? It will not rig correctly if body or wheels will consist of many separate objects. You can join objects by using Ctrl+J shortcut or just google on how to do that in blender.

Default UE4 WheeledVehicle pawn supports only 4 wheeled vehicles. But I'm working on the update which will support any wheel count. You will not be able to use it with default UE4 WheeledVehicle pawn, but Simple Wheeled Vehicle Movement component should support them.
