@rightchoiceshearing when you are shearing near the eyes, don't you worry about cutting their eyeballs? You go right over the eyeballs with the shears. I always hold my breath when you do them. I love watching your videos because u learn a lot from you. You are kind and respectful of the animals you shear and it shows.❤❤❤😊😊

I’m a dog groomer and we have the same problem with people not brushing their dogs and causing them to get super matted. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve been binge watching your channel and I have ALWAYS wanted to shear a farm animal! I’m learning so much from you and your wife and I really appreciate you putting out this information. Maybe I’ll go up to the farm with my Heinigers and see if they will let me try out a sheep 🤣

Coming at it from a weird half way point of I used to use a sheep piece on rabbits 🐇 for a summer job. Use a sheep comb and get someone to show you how to position the sheep. From memory the starting position causes tonic immobility which is how one gets them to stay fairly still

The best make everything look easy. I remember when I was a kid in Colorado the Basque shepherds used enormous pairs of scissors, with blades at least a foot long. They sheared as perfectly as you do and with each swipe took off a wide swath of fiber. With same scissors they went perfectly around the head and smaller areas. We loved to watch them. I looked at other shearing channels here on YT and they made me cringe. It's awful to see the struggles and plain misery. I wish more people would learn your techniques, especially how you let the animals wriggle to get comfortable. I can tell you're always about the animals. So you score again for the Aggies. :)

just loved your commentary so much. Back in the 1970's we used to crutch, neuter the males, dock the lamb tails, trim the feet and throw the sheep into the sheep-dip, like a process line. Nice to see them treated as they should be

I've learned way more about sheep, shearing, and wool from your channel than I ever imagined I would. Great. I love to learn! Spent my whole life doing it, not gonna stop now! I especially appreciate that you take great care to do no harm, not even a nick or scrape, to any of the animals that you work on. I'm totally OK with using animals as resources, but there's literally no reason at all that they can't be well treated along the way.

Oh but there are definite MAJOR sheep shows w/ the $$$ to the winners! Katy is showing us a lot of sheep that have been neglected &/or rescued. It is very evident once you see a properly cared-for sheep that is on a normal shearing & hoof care program. Watch Sandy Brock or Camy for more great sheepie stuff!!

Since you got the heavy mats off can you go back and clean the sheep off. Will the wrinkles still be there even after you've removed the heavy wool? I'd think that they'd be gone and you could shear the ridges and waves off to get a good clean look. Does leaving those thicker, longer patches affect the way the next coat grows in and or cause trouble next time the sheep is sheared? I found one of your shorts here on googletube and couldn't not watch them all then started watching the longer videos. Never thought I'd want to watch videos of someone sharing sheep, lamas, and alpacas.
@rightchoiceshearing
@rightchoiceshearing 2 жыл бұрын
The wrinkle would be gone but the extra ridges don’t effect the growth for next year. I’d rather let the sheep get on about their day, the make them wait while I make her “pretty.” 🤘🏻😂
@mokko759

It makes more sense to just leave the ridges. No need to stress the sheep out any longer just for them to look aesthetically pleasing. The shear is for function, not fashion.
@TheKomentor
@TheKomentor Жыл бұрын
@@mokko759 But why not? It would hardly take a minute or two to do. I would love to have aesthetically pleasing sheep in my farm since I will be looking at them all the time.
@mokko759
@mokko759 Жыл бұрын
@@TheKomentor In a week, you won't even notice the ridges since wool grows so quickly. Also, it's not about you. it's about the sheep and it's wellbeing. Never stress an animal more than is strictly necessary. Aesthetics be damned, safety and wellbeing of the sheep comes first. A good shearer can shear a sheep in about 2 minutes. If they are taking an extra 2 minutes to clean up the ridges ( which the wool from those ridges is absolutely worthless in fibre production) that's an entire sheep they could have shorn and actually made money on.
@TheKomentor
@TheKomentor Жыл бұрын
@@mokko759 I think the only valid reason seems to be the earning part. The rest seem to be excuses from the shearer's perspective.

I came across your You Tube channel a couple days ago and I must say, you know what you are doing. It is amazing how much wool comes off some of these sheep. I have a question. After going through all that dirt in the wool, do you have to sharpen your blades or do you just replace them? Interested to know how you sharpen.
