I agree. I took a bunch of voice training and did some performing. You have to know your instrument and FOCUS! He had to have studied the arrangement, checked the acoustics , practiced with the band if it was a live band or with the tape. And he had to use towering self control during the performance. Because there were several places where he could have just let rip, using his enormous vocal range and power to take off the roof. Instead he kept all of it reined in, just using what was needed. Then, at the end, he blew the rafters up by 6 feet! A complete vocal triumph, he wasn't even breathing hard!
@dougturngren5027
@dougturngren5027 2 жыл бұрын
@@SandraNelson063 you are 💯 correct. His voice never strained, you never saw any strain in his throat or his face. He was smiling while singing the song, and like you said he never was breathing hard at all, looked to me like he was having a good time. I too have been in a few bands in my lifetime, I am not claiming to be an expert on vocals, but sang in the bands and still do some singing, but I sure wouldn't want to have to follow his act, lol

@@SandraNelson063 A perfect description of what was necessary for this performance. It was a live orchestra, and supposedly, at least part of the arrangement was developed during rehearsal with the orchestra. Bobby liked the acoustics in the theater.

There's a KZfaq video of a vocal coach reacting to this performance. The video runs long because she had to stop like every two seconds to comment on how perfect it is.Everything from the pronunciation of certain words, to the timing, the breath control, the intonation, volume control, and on and on. And that lip bite at the end shows that he knew he nailed it.

This performance by Mr. Bobby Hatfield (R.I.P.) of The Righteous Brothers was one for the ages!!! It is absolutely "FIRE!!!" 🔥 This "Live" version is even better than the studio recording (which yes, was used in the movie Ghost), because this one was done in 1 take before a TV audience with a live orchestra and the studio recorded version did not have the "crescendo" ending that this "Live" version has!!! Many other artist have covered this song, but in my humble opinion, Mr. Bobby Hatfield "OWNS" this song, no one has done it better than him and I don't think anyone ever will, as he absolutely "NAILED-IT!!!" Mic Drop!!! 🎤

Nice reaction! Yes, this was in the movie Ghost. The Righteous Brothers are a duo, Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (the soloist here) - they typically did one solo each per album. On the studio version of this, the other "brother" Medley contributed by playing the piano. He would later joke that if he knew this song would become such a big hit, he would have hired a better pianist! They got their name when playing at a military base and some African-American marines heard them and shouted out "man, you sound righteous, brother!" The name stuck. Sounding black wasn't exactly a big help back in the 60's. Some "white" radio stations didn't play their songs because they assumed they were black. And one "black" station played their songs for the same reason and asked them to come in for an on-air interview. The DJ was shocked when two white dudes walked in! That DJ later said that his management didn't want the station to keep playing their songs after they realized they were white but the DJ refused; he said as long as our audience likes the music, I'll keep playing it. Please react to "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" - here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7WejLxqst2Wdps.html This was their biggest hit, in fact it was THE most played song on the radio in the 20th century (and still #2 most played even today). And as far as movies, Loving Feeling was featured in the 1986 movie Top Gun starring Tom Cruise.

Glo was right about the sound track was on 'Ghost'. Sunny was right. In their time(60's), their style of music was called 'Blue Eye Soul'. Finally, there are 2 singers in the 'Righteous Brothers', but sometimes they sang individually. This was Bobby Hatfield's song. Bill Medley had the bass voice and had his own successful songs, as well. Great reaction. If the 'Brothers' being white were a surprise(no negative implications), try listening to the Bee Gees singing 'Staying Alive' if you haven't heard of them or the song. Am subscribing. Good luck.

They were starting out and played a club near a Marine post. After their show some black Marines came up and told them their singing was righteous. The guys liked it and so became the Righteous Brothers. Their song You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling was the most requested song for play to radio stations in the 20th century. Another tidbit, on the recording of that song a very very young teenage girl named Cher was one of the back up singers. It was also featured on the first Top Gun movie.

Bobby had a 4 octave range. The range he sang at the ending is not falsetto, it's a genuine counter-tenor (as it would be called in opera). Falsetto is when someone has to force their voice higher than their normal range and it's breathier. Bobby hit that note with ease and just knocked everyone's socks off! I love that little grin and smile at the end! He had a cold that night, his mother and father were in the audience for this live performance, and he was worried that he wouldn't be able to hit that note at the end. This ending differs from the studio recording, and I think it's actually better. The studio version is what they used in Ghost (Patrick Swazi, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg) in 1990.

Try “Soul and Inspiration” and “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling”. These two songs have the lead singer as Bill Medley but in this one it was Bobby Hatfield who won a bet and therefore sang this solo. One of the biggest hits ever and became a huge hit in the sixties and then again when “Ghost “ was released. Bobby is no longer living but Bill wrote the song for the movie “ Dirty Dancing” where Baby and Johnny were dancing on the stage, “I’ve Had the Time of My Life.” They sang others, “Rock and Roll Heaven “ comes to mind.

BOBBY HAD A STUDIO VERSION OF THIS SONG AND IT WAS THIS STUDIO VERSION THAT WAS IN THAT FAMOUS FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAYZE AND DEMI MOORE AND WHOOPIE GOLDBERG. THE LIVE PERFORMANCE (HERE) WAS THE BEST VERSION IN MY VIEW AND SHOWED OFF HIS GOD GIVEN TALENT FOR THE HIGH NOTES.

I'll wager that when he was done singing there wasn't a dry pair of knickers in the house.

Its a live performance and he's singing this song solo because the other member of the band has a deeper voice so he sat this song out

Thank you @Cary Takagawa! I’ve been a fan of the Righteous Brothers for most of my life but you’ve added some very special knowledge to my adoration. I’ve seen this video before, and recently one of Bill performing Bobbys song. That was a huge let down. I was very fortunate in seeing them perform live (a highlight of my life) only months before Bobby passed on. (a low in my life) One of the best seats in the house, front row right of stage. Looking back i wish it had been left of center. I’m getting off topic but I just wanted to pass on my appreciation for your comment. ❤ Since you seem so knowledgeable; do you have any lesser known facts about Martha Reeves and the Vandellas? Again i was the luckiest girl in the theatre, center stage about 4 rows back. Luckiest white girl ever! (Mpls mayor Sharon Sayles Belton was seated 3 rows behind😮) I had gotten tickets to see Isaac Hayes not knowing the Vandellas were the opening act. I just about died! This won’t mean a thing to a man, but I could see individual sequins on Marthas razzle dazzled shoes! 👠 The night was fantastic, we all stood and danced, many people filling the aisles. Except for the man i had invited, sat there like a lump of dough. But nothing could take away from my joy that night.

The other "Brother" was in the orchestra, he is a baritone so couldn't sing on this one. And yes, this was in the movie Ghost with Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze and Whoopi. They had another hit song in the movie Top Gun with Tom Cruise. Bill is still singing in the RB's with another tenor. Bobby passed away in early 2000's. Duo of Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley, I got to see them in concert in the early 1970s.

Well, a black guy did sing it before the Righteous Brother's sang it. (well, Bobby Hatfield is singing it here) . In 1955 a black man named Roy Hamilton sang it first and he did a great job too, but this is the best version imo. Thanks for playing this .

Yes it was the soundtrack to ghost this is the original singer the Righteous Brothers are not really brothers they are partners but he always sings this song by himself. His partner didn't think the song was good enough but then realized it was. Lol

You want to see the both of them singing together then you need to feature “ You’ve lost that lovin feeling”. It’s beautifully done and you won’t be disappointed. Watch the black and white version on stage.
