A simple pair of tongs. The ends can be shaped further for different holding styles.

This is one of the best forging tutorial videos I've seen. The comparison shots speaks volumes in showing the progression of your work! Thanks so much for sharing!

Others have several times used "clean" with regard to your work. I would say that your work and your shop are highly intentional, disciplined and organized. And you are a teacher-by-example. But we all agree -- Well done, Sir. Please keep these videos coming.

i do have a feeling you're controlling the pressure which the hammer of the machine hits as you adjust it by the pedal you use for it to hammer the iron/steel into shape it's interresting atleast to see someone who knows smithing so i could learn but doing it is abit different than actually using the tools but knowing how todo so is the first steps to properly use tools i'd say

Amazingly clean work as always! I just made my first successful set of tongs (first attempt I broke the jaws off fussing with them). The challenge for me is drawing out the reins; by hand at the anvil tends to lead to ‘i’m tired and my arms hurt, thats good enough’. so not the straightest or smoothest, but functional. I’ll get there.
@rigoniironworks
@rigoniironworks 2 жыл бұрын
Drawing the reins is a pain at the anvil. Try to forge in 1" increments if one piece. Forge welding jaws onto the handles also works.

I've got a no.5 as well. I made a plate with drilled/threaded holes for tool holding. Make a full grid of holes and a clamp set holds stuff easier.

Dumb question: Doesn't it damage the powerhammer when it hits those cold guides? (not the form tools but the depth stop like at 3:43)
@rigoniironworks
@rigoniironworks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. If the dies are only on one side, and you hammer down Very hard, then yes, it wears the hammer. The key is to only forge to the kiss block and no more. Mindlessly forging heavy, wears out your tooling and your hammer.
