However with the ever increasing sizes and physics defying builds how much do you trust that strip of silicon? What an amazing job, very well done. I also wouldn’t have siliconed the edges of the overflow box, for in case those combs ever get clogged suddenly for some reason, the water can still get to the overflow box before raising over the edges of the aquarium.

one of the reasons i dont like rimless tanks is because it doesnt allow me to have pulses of water at the surface level without it resonating to larger waves and causing a splash or spill. i will definitly keep these guys in mind when I upgrade one day. This looks like it came out of the factory like that. Good job.

Thanks for the video, these guys certainly know how to build a tank. I’ve never seen a rimless tank from a reputable big factory manufacturer tear open like waterbox, Cade, fire, UNS, or ADA, even up to 6 or 8ft. (Except for Redsea haha!). I have a feeling it has something to do with their black silicone or cabinet setup. Someone needs to prove me wrong as I’m happy to be educated. A: is clear silicone stronger than black? B: has a big brand rimless tank ever split on its own while seated on a flat and even surface? I hear a lot of caution but haven’t seen any evidence. Except for redsea?

Without going into specifics that might unduly disparage any single brand, I can say with certainty that EVERY big aquarium brand that sell large rimless tanks have had failures to some degree. These represent an incredibly small percentage of the number of their total tanks. But no manufacturer is sitting at 100%. To you questions A: I dont know, question for Billy I think. B: Yes.

Hey Mikey, Clear and black silicone have the same strength. We personally use acetic cure silicones as opposed to natural cure. We prefer black as it looks neater and you can’t see the algae

@@ReefNerd is this typically a problem with the larger capacity tanks? Should I be worried with 45 and under- probably 20-30gallon range? LOL

How wide was the bracing? 80mm?

5ft x 1.5ft × 2ft.. L×B×H...12mm glass. Should we use bracing in bottom or only top center & side bracing will work good ?

Brilliant video! How do we know how much of a gap we need between the pieces of glass? Like in that case it was cut short to allow for silicone, how far do you need to cut it short?

@@ReefNerd assuming it's the same when siliconing the seams of the actual tank? I don't have access to a tank builder as I'm very rural lol. Plus I don't trust me local glazier

Very interesting way to improve the tank..I highly recommend people spend a good few months to years fully researching styles of tanks tostart with and have a clear vision of there goal and look at many tank types and talk to people then have confidence in there final purchase.

How much stronger does a euro brace make the tank? What thickness glass would you need for a 3m x60x60cm tank with and without euro bracing?

It makes it a lot stronger. However the only way to answer your second question (safely) is to ask an engineer.

It was a good job, but i cant think of anything worse to do to a rimless aquarium, most light brackets wont fit on too it, wires and cords will be a nightmare and fitting and removing the plumbing wont be made any easier and cleaning the weir comb cleaning the top part of glass , why not just by a custom aquarium in the first place

Have a question for Billy-does this modification void the manufacturer’s warranty? Lot of companies may use this as an excuse to not honor coverage 🤦‍♂️

Honestly don't know, would come down to the manufacturer I think; worth asking them! Though remember this modification significantly strengthens the tank, so if it were to somehow leak after having this modification done to it... were you in an earthquake or something? The warranty may not apply anyway haha

Good question, like Marcus said, I would ask the manufacturer. We have done bracing for cade, waterbox and Red Sea, no complaints so far 😅
