The 'Nam: Vietnam Combat Operations Tour of Duty is a strange game. It's kinda crazy to see people still modding for Tiberian Sun after so long. It makes me want to go back and replay Tiberian Sun, so many good memories of that game, more so than other Command and Conquer games.

To help explain what happened at the end of the first game - If it has no production buildings left The TibSun AI will sell off all of it's remaining structures and send every unit it has left on a suicide run towards your base. It was designed so that you would not waste time looking a silo or a stealthed guard tower.

It isn't a good game, but at least getting angry at all the tunnels you have to deal with is the Authentic Vietnam Experience. Also, Tib Sun multiplayer matches were basically about building everything non-stop: buildings die so fast that you need a dozen refineries just so you can lose a bunch without losing the game.

Funnily enough, Tet Offensive was unmigitated *disaster* for the Viet Cong, who basically ceased to exists as a fighting force. They lost that badly. After Tet Offensive, only force capable of fighting was NVA

@@Mandemon1990 depends on how you look at it. the original intent of the tet offensive was to spark uprisings in south vietnam unless im mistaken, but ultimately it served several greater purposes. 1. it showed that the supposed "gains" in the war by american and south vietnamese forces were either hype or straight up lies 2. It showed that the north vietnamese were very much still capable of fighting and filling their ranks. 3. it made the south vietnamese government look even weaker and smaller, losing the countryside and popularity amongst its own citizenry.

@@boarfaceswinejaw4516 yeah, the offensive snapped the South back into the cruel reality and broke their fighting spirit. Moreover, the fact that NVA force started to replace VC position sound more like a problem for the US. Sure, it opened many opportunities to stabilize the countryside, but after that you would face an army with better training, better equipment, better command structure and a lot of combat experience. The NVA weren’t afraid to throw hands if needed, and it always end with fiercely fighting

Most Tiberian Sun Mods do have multiplayer, let you pick your side and have many quality of life improvements. The developer of this mod is only one man and he hasn't integrated this mod with the C&CNet client, thats why its so backwards and rudimentary. Lets hope Tiger Yan will properly modernize this mod.

I only know about Tiberian sun and the rest of Command & Conquer because of my dad who was born in I think about the end of the 1970s (funny enough he graduated from West Point). You could argue he is the reason why I got into RTS games like Supreme Commander, Dawn of War and warcraft 3

Something that would be great to bring attention to an old RTS, which was my first RTS. Star Wars Force Commander. It's overshadowed by Empire at War, but it still holds a special place in my heart. I don't even think you can play it on Windows 10.

I've been to vietnam and been in those tunnel complexes, it is remarkable how they managed to stay in those tiny spaces and (maybe, probably, mostly) not go insane from just claustrophobia, not counting the absolute hell that was raining down from above. I would love to see a remaster of this but maybe it's asking too much for it to be actually good these days.

well, there are/were projects to reverse engineer the whole TS/RA2 engine, and there are multiple projects to extend the modding capabilities of the engine (one/two for TS; at least three for RA2). So maybe someday there will be something that adds the much needed QoL features to TS.

@@tceo Dude, it litterally started out as a TA mod. Hell, Spring is only even in 3D because they realized TA could be output into a fully 3D environment and the simulation wouldn't have to change. The fact that the project has tried to obfuscate it's origins for legal reasons doesn't mean it just magically stopped being reverse-engineered TA on LUA.

Tiberian Sun is still to this day my favorite RTS. It's just very nostalgic for me. First RTS I ever played on PC. I played all the C&C releases on ps1 and need to play them again. Haven't really played any games in years. (Hahaha that was left handed)

I see all of you talking about how old you feel because you have, like, 23 to 28 years and I can only laugh. Laugh in despair because I have 35 years and I feel SUPER old. Now, Rimmy, since we all know about your huge love and thirst for some good RTS (both old and new), I would love for you to check this hidden and quite forgotten gem of real time strategy games that is Earth 2140/50/60. But especially the Earth 2150 trilogy since it's mechanics and complexity are still great to this day.

My cousin got me into Starcraft and Red Alert 1 by making me envious of the gameplay. It took me years to get that tasty lick of Tiberium Sun and Red Alert 2 before a spawn file of Brood Wars. Those were the days

I am almost 3 years older than this game. My dad introduced me to Command and Conquer when I was like 6. I remember playing Tiberium Sun a little bit but the RTS game I played a lot growing up was Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour.

Ah the good old days, when my Cousin & I wanted to play Command & Conquer with each other we needed two PS1's, two copies of the game, I had to drag my television upstairs & then link the two consoles with a cable. Lucky we lived in the same house :)

I've seen C&C TibSun mods involving CABAL's own faction or Yuri's Revenge being mashed in along with Starcraft 1 sprites but never thought I would see Vietnam War content made for TS.
