I remember being on the forums when Tynan was asking people how they figured the game should be played. When people answered "Yeah, we're supposed to play on Merciless difficulty with no reloading as default, right?" He renamed all the difficulties and added the description. I never knew it *wasn't* supposed to be a balls to the wall losing is fun experience all the time in an extreme desert subsisting on cannibalism.

It is not uncommon for good people to be driven to desperation and banditry by hunger. He stole your camel for his family's survival. He had no ill will towards you, he was just starving. Hail to a noble hearted bandit who stole the dead camel.

Yes! I missed this one completely on stream. I've been saying for a while that rimworld isn't a warcrime focused game. That's just playing on easy mode, effectively. The wealth can accumulate like crazy.

When I saw the dead camel moving off to the east, I immediately flashed back to the floating corpses in the foyer of death during the Igor run. It was kind of a relief to discover that the raiders were just stealing it for "reasons" of their own.

I'm a 100% blind vanilla rimworld player with just shy of 800 hours spent on the rim and I'm immensely enjoying watching these playthroughs of yours. I never looked up anything about any mechanics (before starting to watch you a few weeks ago, as the first and so far only rimworld content creator i actually watch) and it's really nice to know that i wasn't so far off in most cases with the way i taught myself to play, which just goes to show how great of a game this is again. The way you explain things is very satisfying and understandable and I've gotten many hours of enjoyment just out of your videos here on youtube by now, but definitely gonna have to come by your stream at some point. I can only hope by the time i reach your level of expertise I'm not as dead inside as you seem sometimes hahaha No offence though, i understand

Man good save with the mech cluster. But damn do I wish mental breaks were redone in rimworld. They have to be the most infuriating things in the game, and not in a good way. Maybe that's what the "M" update will be, Mental Breaks :P

Rimworld without warcrimes is like bread without butter! I do enjoy this ideology for how it forces you to make use of pawns you would otherwise pass up, or arrange tragic _accidents_ for ;)

there is an evolutionary purpose for the effect of spicy food on humans, it just isn't a human evolutionary purpose. it's the chilli plant's evolution. mammals can digest chilli seeds, the chilli plant develops capsicaicin to stop mammals eating it's seeds. a bird cannot digest chilli seeds so the seed passes through the bird and is deposited in a handy glob of fertilizer. capsicaicin has no effect on birds, only mammals. so, like i said, chilli plant evolution not human.

Haven't been able to watch much recently but glad I tuned in for this one. Finally playing the good guys, eh? Looks like you really double-downed on it, too. I still allow psycasts, hunting, and mercenary work if it's against pirates. I also allow soft drugs, nothing evil in that. Shakes up your game nicely -this run certainly has a lot of theme and it's good to see you approach the mechanics in a fresh way. You gotta work on your language, though. You keep saying things like "kill area" instead of "visitor reception area." You said there were some failed runs -I'd be interested to know how this compares to Igor or the melee run. PS: You mentioned working on a wealth guide, but I don't see it up on KZfaq.

Have you tried something ridicolously difficult like permanent toxic fallout? I'm currently doing a mountain base with permanent toxic fallout, volcanic winter, sunblocker and with the temperature down 1 step. The outsides are absolutely deadly, theres no trees or animals and the only way to survive is fungus. I had to cheat myself some extra wood and food in the early game but after that it's been pretty chill.

I haven't done perma fallout or such, but recently did a 500% no pause, no killbox, no trap tunnel, no burn box, no cover run. That was pretty brutal. Will be posting it on here soon-ish :P

I think I started doing war crimes at a very early stage. I switched to the hardest difficulty rather early and found it was the easiest way to get a foothold. Probably some allegory for real life there somewhere (not for me, but in general :P).

and as it is, back after hiatus to watch more playthroughs :D this one sounds "Fun", as in awful... haha I play as a pretty "nice" faction for the rimworlds, I like to help randoms, do stuff that helps other factions for no benefits, and all sorts of nice stuff... but I still am a monster who will harvest raider organs from time to time... I cant wish you luck because you are already done this run, but in spirit I wish you luck here :) after this ima see that cheese run which sounds fun

u can bury any corpse in a grave/sarcophogus, in the storage settings bottom left. If i ever find a godly pawn raider unable to be captured, he goes into the hall of legends (quest monument building)

Omg, seriously...you have no clue how many people protest me saying cow for all of them. It is like they haven't ever heard of a heifer, and since they use it as a teasing slur...I know they have. I grew up on a farm... There were cows. Yes, people...a bull...is...a...cow! It cramps my ocd to be forced to explain that to Americans in the backwoods of MS...yet, I do...more often than is conceivable. People give me headaches...lmao P.S. Good to know Devilstrand is blight resistant. I play rainforest and swamps often. Even my 5x5 feilds get it quite often with 3 spaces between them. Console still doesn't have the ideology dlc, or mods, or slider options...Still, I bought it and love it despite saying I would never play this game. Weirdly, Stranded: Alien Dawn vids made me start watching Rimworld vids, so Tynan owes those Gamers for the promotionals...lol

I am thinking of doing a 'back to vanilla' run at some point as well. Turning off both DLC's should be really interesting after using things like psycasting and lowshields for so long.

I believe that he does this to trick the ai pathfinding. It attempts to go to a location by the fastest route possible, avoiding swamps, fences, water, anything slow to walk over, concrete has a slight movement speed advantage.

As Om mentioned, it is to manipulate AI pathing. You don't 'need' it when you have the slowing devices near the traps. However, if any objects falls in the tunnel it can screw up pathing and raiders may miss some traps. The concrete helps to ensure they will take the trap path even with those falling obstructions.

ama at 4:00:51 you had to accept a Imperial Transporter Crash charity quest. If you build that landing pad with the light beacon around it, would they crash there? Or is it always random in those kind of quests?

Adam, I see you place a high value on early pawns being able to research. Would it be unwise for someone on Naked Brutality to take a pawn who can’t research as their second pawn? The pawn in question was an industrious, fast learner, psychopath with decent plants and high crafting.

I've only been playing Naked Brutality, losing is fun, first colonist, Random tile for the past year. I'm not good at it. My average survival time is about 20 minutes, but I have gotten so much better since I started doing it. I feel like it's time to go back to a simpler game mode like Crashlanded, Adventure story to make sure I am actually better at the game now.

My big thing as always is 'are you having fun'. So if you are having fun with the naked brutality losses then no need to worry about improving on other modes or what not. Adam I'd love to see you play an Igor Invader run with 3 starting tribal colonists on 500% difficulty, but with Better Map Sizes mod. And pick a 50x50 map. Which only gives you about 30x30 spaces to build a base.

SMG for all around, usually. Unfortunately the LMG is one of the worst guns in the game with its only redeeming quality being decent stopping power :(

I find it funny that the challenge run here is my normal play-style. I just can't do cannibalism, organ harvesting, "forced work" type of runs... I like slow lazy settlement management runs while trying to be a decent person, so this isn't far off from my preferences. Note: yes, I'm aware Adam plays on a *WAY* harder difficulty than I ever will so this is, in fact, genuinely challenging/difficult without min-maxing compared to what I do, it's just weird that my general goals playing are considered a handicap (though I agree that with this difficulty they are indeed handicaps especially compared to pure optimization). Just because *I* play "good" runs doesn't mean I don't come here for other types of runs 😏

I know that it is probably too late for this comment, but, the Kind trait is broken. Kind pawns absolutely can and do start social fights, they will not instigate by insulting etc, but if they are insulted, they will start a social fight. I do not know when it was changed, I have only played on 1.2 and 1.3 patches, but i was shocked when my kind researcher started a social fight after being insulted. It appears that the description of the Kind trait is incorrect, they will not insult anyone ever, but they will start social fights when they are insulted.

I think I'm one of the few people in the USA who says "bovine" but when I say it I am also talking about buffalo and yaks and animals "of that type", which is a way of thinking and a series of thought patterns that occur in gardeners and people who engage in animal husbandry with a system that integrates with nature rather than strictly segregating from it. So like "fowl" would be quail, duck and chickens and turkeys. THere is one of those "types" that is best suited for each situation. If you have a natural pond or swamp, probably a duck or goose is okay. If you have dusty sandy area, a suitable chicken variety is okay. A petting zoo might do better with ornamental chickens or peacocks. In france, people keep a lot of quail because it must be easier or more productive there somehow or some way. That's usually the context that people think of when they use words like "bovine" or "fowl" or "canid/canine" or "nightshade" or whatever. I even think to myself currently "I need some sort of canine to keep the rabbits scared of my garden". That could be a local coyote that does the work for me, or my own dog. I don't know the ideal canine, but I know that I need a canine.

5:55:50 OK Good Guy, you had to defend yourself, like the Lynx/Cougars(?) before. But why not butcher the carcasses? If you don't eat the meat, you could at least make new clothes and train crafting. Then if your pawns are still squeamish about wearing the clothes, they could be sold. The clothes, not the pawns... :) Oh and the kill box corridor barricades have no breaks in them. So pawns, etc. go normal speed after the first one, just as you described earlier. So, not sure why you did that.

The barricades at the end of the tunnel before the killbox are not for slowing and are for a completely different mechanic. You'll see me to that section in all my playthroughs on here. Basically, putting a high-health structure there that can be pathed over will make it so enemies will not be able to shoot from that position as they come in (and will survive a bunch of missed shots, unlike fencing). Without that there enemies will stop and use the corner for cover. By placing the section of barricades enemies will come all the way into the killbox before stopping and firing (unless coming out of a stun or block).
