Exactly. Just rewatched it the other day. It took the ENTIRE Fellowship to bring that cave troll down. And several of them nearly died in the process several times. It was a moment that showed how well the Fellowship worked together, but also showed just how deadly and dangerous some of Sauron's minions could be. Seeing Galadriel doing crazy Matrix moves and easily taking down something others can't, just makes it seem like the enemy isn't really something that dangerous. It takes the tension away. In LOTR your thinking, my god, how the hell are these guys going to survive this? How are they going to pull off what seems impossible. Rings of Power, I am thinking, Why didn't they just send invincible Galadriel to chop Sauron's head off and be done with it.. She is unstoppable. Where is the tension? Where is the danger?

A similar thing was played out in the first Wonder Woman movie, and was much more effective. The men didn't sit back and give her a moment, they were in the thick of it with her, and they worked together. Shit, I think that is the last movie with a female lead that had an actual character arc. She was actually pretty naive and idealistic, and became hardened by her experiences. And at no point did they emasculate the men around her in order to prop her up. She was also very likable and you rooted for her. She wasn't an insufferable entitled brat. And they were able to inject current social commentary, without it being on the nose.

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS THIS RUBBISH OFF AS LOTR" We the fans don't want an expensive FanFiction with tons of stunning scenery. It's not some generic high fantasy it's Tolkien's world. The first episode alone .....here Galadriel isn't married to Celeborn/and no Daughter... and she wasn't exiled but left on her own .... NOT open to interpretation but instead unnecessary and important changes among many others. No marriage/relationship = no daughter =no future wife for Elrond=no Arwen=you fucked up the timeline pretty bad Let's not start with bland pseudo intellectual dialogue, wrecked character design, simple concepts such as distances in middle earth, etc Diversity we COULD have that are lore: Haradrim, Easterlings or the Corsairs of Umbra If you tried to make Marvel's Wakandans in Africa white there would and should be a shitshorm, or image something closer to LOTR. A fantasy story celebrating African culture and myths 1000 years ago.....and then made some of the main character cast white because....diversity even though there were white cultures in the story they could have used instead of changing lore to fit their ideals they are proud to proclaim aren't Tolkien

And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality and honesty. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. On another video about this how, I brought up how silly it is for a thousand year old, magic wielding, immortal Elf noble to be less wise, less strong, and less capable than Aragorn, who was barely in his 70's. The string of bullshit defenses were a real achievement of human idiocy. "It's called character growth! Of course she isn't as mature as she is in LOTR!" "A 1000 year old elf is like being a 20 year old human. She is like 4000 in LOTR!" "It isn't a competition for who is strongest or smartest. Galadriel is learning at her own pace!" And then I felt a tug on the magical tripwire that brings the rusty steel jaws of realization slamming shut, bisecting them at the ideological waist... "Galadriel would make a terrible protagonist if she didn't grow or change at all. Who would watch that..." Mmmhmmm, and? "...Why even bother focusing on characters that don't have story arcs?!" Boom. And now you know why Tolkien never wrote a single word about elvish culture evolving or changing. Individual elves could be corrupted or tricked, but they NEVER acted outside of their nature, and they were NEVER shown in situations that displayed a change of heart. There are no stories about individual elves bringing their lessons learned into a later story. Humans and Hobbits are meant to be the focus of all Tolkien's work. Aragorn finally learns to take the responsibility he had been avoiding. Gollum learns to overcome his loneliness and shame.(until the end) Bilbo learns about courage and resourcefulness. Sam and Frodo learn leadership and sternness. The Hobbits learn to stand up to evil. The elves have to be set in their ways like Sauron so that there are two poles that the actual protagonists can wander between and align themselves with. Galadriel is a bad protagonist because she is either the badass, powerful ruler of the elves, or she is a moron that couldn't mature over millenia.

The show tries to emphasize the power of its women characters by showing their being victims of the patriarchal society they live in. Young Galadriel is being bullied by boys, 'Commander' Galadriel is being bullied by 'Politician' Elrond and 'So Called High King' Gil-Galad. Nori always gets warned for being too adventurous by her parents. Bronwyn is gossiped about and is not trusted by the male villagers. Is this the only way to build up powerful female characters? The only thing that trips me up about the HOD casting is that the Targaryens are silver haired, pale, and purple eyed "pure bloods" because of ridiculous amounts of inbreeding. It's one of the reasons all of them go insane. So, I don't know why you would want to recast a character for representation sake for that role. It's like: "See! Black people can be racist, incestuous, monsters too!" Lmao. All in all, I believe the best person for the role should get it. But if it betrays the authors work, I hold issue. Half the time it felt like I was watching this on an actual stage as the actors were simply doing a run through of their lines, some of the sets were so obvious that it instantly took me out of the world. Then again, my mind struggled to ever stay in the first place. Perhaps had it been at least consistent with a well written story, I wouldn't have minded that style, but it was too much all over the place. Convenient props appeared always at the right time it seemed, too fake looking for some while others almost too perfect. This world they created with all its apparent beauty, it never quite felt like it was actually lived in. It was very strange because some of the sceneries were so beautiful while other times it felt rather artificial and empty, soulless. The reviews appear to be extremely mixed online, but I think a lot of these could be bots based on how they write the same basic stuff over and over; twitter has it bad if not the worst. This is just my opinion, but to me, it seemed as though they were trying way too hard without fully understanding the source material, especially when it came to metaphors with their attempt to speak what I call, "fantasy proper." It's amazing to me that I can watch a low budget stage play while having no problems in suspending my disbelief because the story and actors were of quality and actually had chemistry to keep me engaged. Whereas ROP, with such an enormous budget, fell flat in their creation of this somehow desolate world. For some, maybe they don't notice such things and don't have this issue and that's fine, I really wish I didn't feel this way. Then again, even if I could get past that feeling, there's still so many other things that are wrong here. I have to wonder though, am I alone in this emptiness it made me feel? It gave off an uneasy feeling in a similar way to liminal spaces.

that "you people never let the past go" scene could actually do really well, in theory. because men have lives infinitely shorter than elves, the potential for a storyline where elves learn the potential of the individual to change above their ancestor or race's past, and that "just because some dude was bad a decade ago doesn't mean that everyone is bad now," is fantastic. Had it not come after some dude tried to poison a black dude, and if we could trust the writers to come up with a coherent message other than "racism bad, lol," it could be a great, if cliche, plot point.

Honestly, the only somewhat interesting storyline is Elrond, Durin, and Disa. The Harfoots are just so lame. LotR worked so well because we started off with one group and storyline. The fellowship is broken up, but by the time this happens, we care about each of the characters. In this show, there's too much shifting between storylines when we haven't had time to become invested in any of the characters.

Race is a product of isolation and/or segregation. It creates a problem in science fiction or fantasy (depending on how you analyze it). For instance, if you had a show set in 2200 and the demographics were the same as today, then implicitly, it would require several hundred years during which society had maintained racial boundaries. Alternatively, you can shrug and accept that stories are typically reskinned versions of us or idle distractions and logic doesn't matter so much as whether you can win suspension of disbelief through effective storytelling and building up reserves of goodwill with your audience. If they hadn't pissed off their audience in other ways, they could probably get people to swallow some minor irritations.

One thing that I've noticed with the current era of 1 hr, 8 episode season TV shows, is that writers don't know what to do with so much yet so little screen time. It's like they get overjoyed with having 8 hrs to breathe but then have no idea how to fill run time. Obi Wan Kenobi suffered greatly from this problem, so very little happened yet each episode felt rushed and disjointed with the last. So far with the Rings of Power, there is at least continuity between episodes but not much has been told. I assume that they were trying to establish the world and the set pieces for the inevitable drama to unfold, but with 1/4th of the season done, I feel like the latter half of the season is going to be incredibly rushed. Compare that with TV shows from the 90' and 00's where a season was 24 episodes at 45 minutes each. Writing was succinct yet fit into the grand narrative of the show.

Where do I begin? 1) ''It began with the forging of the great films.'' You started with praising the films, like Jackson fans often do. 2) You praise Tolkien and Jackson in the same paragraph; indicating that you consider Jackson just as important as Tolkien. 3) You give more praise to Jackson than to Tolkien. 4) While you praises the films in two sentences, you forget to praise the books. 5) No criticism for the Jackson films, despite that he took extensive liberties with the movies. 6) ''One show to ruin them all''. How does one show ruin the books? The show is not canon. The show is basically expensive fan fiction. If non-canon fan fiction is able to ruin the books, then by the same reasoning the films have already ruined the books. Both are non-canon fan fiction, not actual writings of Tolkien faithfully put on screen. Final take: It's better that Jackson fans go crawl back into the holes where they came from.

Totally agree with Corlys Valeryon. Also, unlike with the Tolkien world, Old Valerya was a huge empire. And the difference between empires and countries/kingdoms is that empires are made up of many nations. So if you really wanna reach, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that the Valeryon's were a little different from other Valeryan houses. It's a big stretch but still, more believable than black Lannisters. Also his brother is also black and his kids are mixed, meaning the showrunners made it fit. But most importantly, no one cares if Corlys is black because his hair is white/silver, the actor is great and the character is well written with an interesting arch. If the RoP showrunners wouldn't be total tools they could've ***expanded*** the story to the East of Middle-Earth to include Turkic/Mongolian/Asian actors from Rhûn. They could've expanded the story to the South of Middle-Earth to include Arab/North African/Black actors from Harad. They could've focused on the Blue Wizards and cast actors like Clarke Peters and Morgan Freeman as the Blue Wizards. But we all know that these corporations don't want to actually expand the worlds they've bought out, they just want to recycle. Which is sad because Tolkien fans would've loved to see more of Rhûn, Khand, Harad and the Blue Wizards.

Even the landscapes and cities and such are nowhere near the quality and character of the Jackson films. They BUILT Hobbiton like two years ahead of time. They BUILT Rivendell (except the larger background shot of it), they built Lothlorien, they built Helm's Deep, they built Edoras, etc., etc. They used as little CGI as possible, and it's like 20-year-old CGI now, and it STILL looks more believable than RoP. WHY? Character. The movies had character, there was love poured into those movies. They kept to the books as much as they could. They build as much as they could. They had guys putting together millions of little rings to make the chainmail. They had actual armor smiths making the costume armor (it was basically just lighter actual armor), like, you can't beat that as far as appearances. So, I really can't even give them the looks aspect, because they didn't even TRY on any of these things, you can tell they didn't give a s***.

It's between Elrond and Prince Durin. Maybe just because I like dwarves, I don't know. Princess Disa is not even that bad as a character... now if only she had a beard. Prince Durin's grudge is very much in character for a dwarf. It's good. When they are on the elevator he shows some believable anger at Elrond for missing his wedding and the birth of his 2 sons. That's good stuff. Then the whole situation at Durin's home. Again good work on the actors side, I even liked Elrond there. I am not going to talk about how they butchered the lore, because they outright masacred it. It's bad, really bad. "Look how they masacred my boy" bad.

This is the tale of A middle-earth, just one of a multitude of different possible worlds created at the beginning of time by Eru Ilúvatar and the Valar. At the end of Season 01, they will introduce us to a new character, JaReRaT el Khen, that will show to us all this diversity of stories. You could even ask yourself what if we could see these multiple universes. On Season 02 we will move from the middle-earth where Guyladriel has become the Overall Commander of all the armies of the world and will go investigate a different middle-earth where the Fourth Era has just begun. An Era of mostly peaceful protests spreading all over the forests and hovels, with demands for equality and representation to all the different peoples of the world. The Last Season will be the shortest and seemingly the longest, showing an All-New All-Different Not-Yet-Ready middle-earth, where Eru and all the Valar are all female and are still now discussing which are the better parts of the music and who will sing first and why should Eru take the lead as they are equally empowered female archetypes and could they just not bother creating males and such... Only 01 episode that will feel like 100 hundred.

But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.

We need to stop calling this stuff “woke” or “leftist” or whatever, call it what it is-it’s pure antiwhitism. We can argue from the moral high ground if we say “I will not accept antiwhitism” instead of “we’re not racist!”

I actually have a guilty pleasure in watching these woke shows cause it usually exposes a lot of the writers' own biases. Like She-Hulk nearly annihilating three men for hitting on her. But Rings of Power is just so boring. At least in other shows you have something happening along with the cringy woke stuff but barely anything in the story has moved in the first two episodes.

I get where your coming from but when it’s properties I really love and would’ve gotten a lot of pleasure out of like the MCU or LoTR, I don’t feel the same. It’s like marrying a girl and finding out she’s woke then saying, I can enjoy them being ridiculous. Maybe a person at the mall you don’t know, but these properties aren’t acquaintances to me. :( I didn’t even watch the 1st episode of she hulk and made it five minutes into miss marvel. The hobbit was trash so I wasn’t interested in this show from the beginning. But I’ve been opening night, every MCU film since 2014. Moon knight was pretty good and wandavision was 10/10 until the last couple episodes ruined the entire series.. dr strange 2 and love and thunder we’re pretty good but disappointing over all.

Compare the Snow Troll scene to the Cave Troll scene in the Mines of Moria from the Fellowship of the Ring. In Fellowship, all the members of the Fellowship fight with bravery and competency. They get their ass kicked initially because they are being swarmed by a bunch of Orcs in addition to the Troll. But through teamwork, they win. Heck, even Pippin is on top of the troll pulling on the chain, causing the troll to rear back which gives Legolas his opening for the killing blow. I'm the Snow Troll scene, the males are incompetent or terrified into inaction and Galadriel wins with the barest assist from a teammate...

“Are you just going to stand there breathing like an orc?” -Galadriel I was utterly stunned by this clever comment made by Galadriel. I don’t know if you can read between the lines like I can, but I’ll fill you in. Galadriel is cleverly comparing Elrond’s breathing to that of a race in middle earth known as the “orc”. These orcs are disgusting and evil in their very nature, and they likely have very stinky breath (it’s so funny because Elrond most likely doesn’t breathe like an orc, and his breath is most definitely not as smelly as an orcs). It’s writing like this that really sets this series apart from other fantasy shows. you can expect the rest of the show to be as deep and insightful as this line.

Considering orcs are Elves that Morgoth twisted as soon as they woke up, it's even more insightful! I do wonder if orcs that were born get to go to Valinor when they die since they are technically Elves and didn't choose to worship Melkor. A question for the ages, but I'd imagine they are denied resurrection.

The bluntness of the black elf scene reminds me of casting LGBTQ actor Ezra Miller as Credence in the Fantastic Beast movies in that Credence is obviously an allegory of homophobia - a boy who goes on rampages with destructive magic due to long-term suppression by his ultra-religious foster mother. No subtlety at all.

for me as a proud black person by the way I fuckin love lord of the rings to be honest one of the reasons I loved the story so much is even though they were all white skinned people in the movie there was a lot of bigotry between the races or beings of the story u could see how people were treated unfairly or different because they were Hobbits or elf’s or dwarves etc. that was interesting I could relate as a black person even though I didn’t see a black face and the funny thing with this situation I’m agreeing with a lot of people I wouldn’t agree with on a lot of other issues with this one a lot of right wing talkers but I love lord of the rings so much this talk has gotten a lot of my attention I’ll NEVER watch this show

Kid Galadriel made a boat out of some paper and the kids that are both GIRLS and boys taunt her - the boat she makes is an origami of a swan and the children throw rocks at the swan. You're so full of it - so anyway, the fellowship fought a cave troll AND goblins and this was NOT the same thing or similar. The elves in ROP fought a Frost Troll on it's own. Also I already wrote this comment, so here it is again: *You're a liar, NOT all the troops with her were male when she fought the frost troll AND not only did 1 of the FEMALE elves get booted aside by the troll but a MALE elf vaulted Galadriel into the air, so both a MALE and Galadriel took it down So if you can't relate to Galadriel because she wasn't in peril vs a Frost Troll, what about when the Worm knocked her into the ocean and she actually drowned and had to be rescued, she was terrified and also knocked out, so...? What a terrible example of the harfoots being "cringe" I mean besides the fact I don't even know what kids you are talking about, one kid pointed out the paw print that was in the berry bush but the harfoot scenes are with adults, like 99% of it is with adults. The harfoots focus so far has been mostly on Elanor Brandyfoot and the giant who fell out of the sky and nothing about it has been "cringe" you just talk in infantilized memes cos your audience is comprised of meme sheep The human boy is upset cos he is lumped in with his ancestors actions from a thousand years ago and is mad with the elves. So how is the black elf part of a cringe race story? He isn't the one complaining. He also isn't being blamed on any individual basis or skin specific related bias. You've read into this as if it mirrors white people saying black people need to get over slavery even though the scene actually depicts humans under the elves thumb, so it doesn't fit your narrative. If on the other hand, the boy was black and the elf was white, then it would be more believable where you are taking this. Nobody who wrote the script for this show has to be sorry for the fact that you are hypersensitive. If the writers goal was to make white people look bad and racist, then why does the black elf have white friends and white elf allies and a white partner. Why do the black harfoots get along so well with the white harfoots? Why does a white man saved Galadriels life? If she had not been saved by him, she wouldn't exist in episode 3, she was going to die but whitey saved her. 15 minutes and you talk like you are a child "cringe" "cringe" "cringe" is this how you talk in the courts? Do they look at you like you are petulant? Is there any point in watching the remaining 10 minutes or is it more of this? Out of context and memes.

Thanks for the comment. I like to read clarifications that contradict what someone claims. Although with the black elf scene, they really went out of their way to have a "black" character getting racially attacked, as lore wise elves are not black, just like humans are not green.

I might get hate for this, but I don't think The Rings of Power is as bad as you are making it. Yes I can see the PC aspects in it but honestly it's bearable. First a correction. In Galadrials "elite" party (put quotes because there was no indication anywhere that they were elite, just poor suckered who were assigned Galadrial as their commander) there were at least one other woman so it wasn't all male. Also, Galadrial is super op and was even depicted as such in Fellowship, where she even says she is an equal match for the dark lord (with the ring of course). So having Galadrial be able to take down a snow troll while the others were having difficulties (also yes I know the others didn't really try to fight cause panicking) to show her overwhelming strength compared to the others. And she looks pissed off all the time because everyone is telling her to give up the search for Sauron when she has more than enough reason and proof to back it up to keep looking. Now the Harfoot story line is a different story. That I feel is a little bland and is trying to force Nori into the shoes of Frodo. However, the half foots (or hobbits) are all go lucky and loving and caring because that's just how they are. With the introduction of The Stranger though it starts to make that story line a little more interesting. Finally there is Arondir's story. The villagers in the tavern were not talking about poisoning the well, and Arondor was not implying that they were. He could hear parts of the conversation and as a self appointed caretaker of that village (because of his love interest) he wanted more information of possible poison in a pasture where cattle were falling ill and dieing. The villagers animosity toward the elf and that one dudes "when are you people going to let the past go" is their anger about the elves pretty much occupying their lands and treating the South Landers all like enemies, even though none of the humans alive now were the ones who sided with Sauron or Morgoth. Arondir is willing to let the past go because of love towards his human lover but the humans can't see him more than an elf. Now to go into the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, the human warriors woth the elephants in the Return of the King who sided with Sauron were South Landers, the same area that the people around Arondir is, which shows that their animosity and willingness to follow Sauron never really changed. I know this is a really long comment but there is one last thing I want to mention. It's not that all the male characters are "cowards" per se. More along the lines of some people are cowards and weak while others (ie. Arondir, Elrond and Halbrand (even though it hasnt been shown yet)) are braver and stronger. I feel it is a bit of a reach to say all the male characters are weak and cowardly.
