Rio Bravo is a 1959 American Western film directed and produced by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan, and Ward Bond. Written by Jules Furthman and Leigh Brackett, based on the short story "Rio Bravo" by B. H. McCampbell, the film stars Wayne as a Texan sheriff who arrests the brother of a powerful local rancher for murder and then has to hold the man in jail until a U.S. Marshal can arrive. With the help of a cripple, a drunk and a young gunfighter, they hold off the rancher's gang. Rio Bravo was filmed on location at Old Tucson Studios outside Tucson, Arizona, in Technicolor.

Me and my grandpa used to watch this when I was a little girl instead of taking naps. He sadly passed away a few years ago, but I still watch it every year on his birthday to celebrate him. I love this movie and especially Dean Martin lol.

John Wane was really an action man and not much good in romance roles , but the chemistry between he and Angie Dickinson was electric, one felt for these two who desperately trying to understand each other.

My favorite John Wayne, Ward Bond, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, Harry Carey Jr. Love all the old actors. Always sad that Ward Bond died so young. He was about same age as John Wayne.

Me too. Grew up watching John with my Dad. My Dad died from cancer 11 days after big John. I felt that not only did I lose one strong man in my life, but two. Got loads of his films

The title is a little misleading. They did not all die tragically. Angie Dickinson is still alive in her nineties, as mentioned. Yes, a few died well before their time, but not all. A good effort though.

Your right. Harry Carey Jnr fell out with Howard Hawks and his scenes (as well as those of Malcolm Atterbury and Sheb Wooley) were cut from the film. Carey's name was however left on the film credits.

La miniature est lamentable. Angie Dickinson n'est pas la vieille femme mourante sur la photo "now" et n'est pas morte. Elle a 91 ans et est en excellente forme comme le prouve son intervention récente lors de la projection de la restoration du film en 4K où elle a répondu à des questions avant la projection du film.

As for Harry Carry, Jr., although his name is on the opening credits, he is not in Rio Bravo in the final cut of the film. Howard Hawks fired him. Whatever scenes he was in was deleted, if any at all.

First of all, I don't think that all the deaths should be characterized as "tragic," some of the actors lived to a ripe old age, then died, what's tragic about that? Secondly, one who has lived to that ripe old age, and is still alive, is Angie Dickinson, but, you not only show her, but, you show her with "R.I.P." on the thumbnail. So, why are you posting clickbait?

@@markchurchill9426 I’ve seen the film plenty of times and Sheb Woolley, Harry Carey Jnr and Malcolm Atterbury are NOT IN IT. All three had scenes deleted, but none of them were in the final film. Don’t try and troll someone who knows what they are talking about.. it makes you look foolish.
