Thanks! The fork is the MRP Ribbon air 29 with 76psi in the positive chamber and about 78 in the negative chamber. The shock is the MRP Hazzard with a 550lb spring. The dampers are set pretty neutral right now and feel quite good! Later in the week I cased an 8 foot drop onto a rock with my back wheel and even then I didn't feel/hear a harsh bottom-out, so between the valving of the shock and the Ripmo's suspension curve, things seem pretty dialled. I can tell you this. Me and my son have ridden Ibis and Pivots which are both DW link bikes and for us the Ibis bikes performed soooo much better than the Pivot bikes!!

The trails were amazing for February! They didn't have a Ripmo 2 in her size, but one is on the way. Having said that, I'm really digging the AF model as well.

Yes. I think Ibis got it right. It's pretty aggressive as is.

The geo change isn't all that dramatic actually, at least not with me going with the XL Ripmo2. Having a bike with a *little* less reach and a *bit* shorter chainstays was something I was after and this one fit the bill. I'm finding the Ripmo in XL (for my height) strikes a really nice balance between being stable at speed, yet still flickable and jumpable on the trail. Like I tend to say often, every bike has it's pros and cons, so you just have to choose the one that best fits where you ride, what you ride and how you like to ride it. In 2020, pretty much all bikes are awesome, so just get out and ride it!

It's a legendary trail! Knowing the kinds of trails you ride out there in SC, the Ripmo 2 is definitely worth checking out, if you're in the market for a new bike.

The Loam Ranger The riding in Santa Cruz is very different from where I ride. It’s a lot more rocky and chunky here, whereas SC is more loamy or rooty.

Jiminy Cricket well, I basically made 100% the front would feel too light (accidentally) haha. Mega high handlebars, one degree slacker, 35mm stem instead of 50mm... oops haha. Once I lowered the bars a bit, it was all good though.

It is! I had ridden a couple of Pivots a few years ago, but that was just for a day or two. I'm really looking forward to spending the season on such a good suspension platform!

It's a one degree angleset. Every one is custom made when you order it, so you just give them the angle you want and the bike model/head tube length, and they create one with the exact fitment needed.

Haha good eye! I had the wheel trued after the build, so it was straight as an arrow going into this trip.

Oh haha that's the massive 220mm front rotor buzzing the pads. I have the bite point extremely close on that brake setup, so with the exaggerated side-to-side movements of the 220mm rotor, it zings the pads when I'm really cranking on the pedals, or leaning hard into a turn.

@@TheLoamRanger so flex of the bike or wheel? I haven't had Tha tproblem before unless bent rotor, 2hich fix in a truing stand with disk truing add on.

@@TheLoamRanger which bad did you use? If it's hope you need to set them up differently due to the rivets so the don't hit the caliper. U need to make sure to use a alignment tool hold it between and rotor on one side, press lever, 4his will align caliper sligly off center to the left thus allowing rotor to rivets to clear, if u use Shimano or Sram brakes, I don't know if it's the case for Hope.

I did some pretty sizeable drops later in the week (one that had my head clapping down on the landing haha) and the bike soaked it up fine. I was pretty curious to see how it would handle that kind of thing with the coil on there, but I didn't experience any harsh bottom out, so that was great.

The Ramp Control cartridge is an integrated part of the MRP Ribbon, which is cool! So far I’m right in the middle of the adjustment range and I think it may be just about right for me.

@@TheLoamRanger understood. I think its about 4 clicks per token from fully clockwise so I set mine to 4 to match the grip2. Will be super nice to be able to crank it for whistler and leave it more open for regular riding at Bragg Creek.

GumX for the Ripmo’s. It’s a great all-around compound. I’m going to try the MagiX for race days though, just for scientific purposes 😀

Ben not really, no. They are two very different bike companies who make pretty different bikes, so it’s not about which one is better, it’s about what you want as a rider. Every bike and every bike company has its pros and cons, you just have to weigh them out for yourself. About doing a direct comparison video, it’s just not great etiquette to do a public video comparing current and previous sponsors gear. In 2020 I don't feel like you can make a generalized statement like that anymore with how good bikes are. It all depends on personal preference. What I can say is that for what my personal goals are as a mountain biker this year, I think the Ripmo suits me better, overall. It's stable and fast, yet is also a bit easier to maneuver and ham around with on the trails, which I'm really loving.

@@TheLoamRanger everyone has their preferences! theres bikes ive ridden that everyone loves but i hate (stumpy), just curious on what your thoughts are between the pole and ibis. glad you like it though, it would suck to be on a bike that you dont like the feel of.

In this video it was a 550lb standard spring. I eventually went down to a 500lb.

Well, I was shocked at how good the rear suspension was, so it was a good 'shocked' haha. I always try to give a balanced perspective when it comes to things like this and I stated some pros and cons when they came up. I'm not a professional editorial tech reviewer though and these bikes are just meant to be the tools we use to create our travel/how-to/vlog videos. So when it comes to bike reviews, best stick to guys like Mike Levy etc. Having said that, it looks like all the pro tech reviewers are saying the same things as me about the new Ripmo 😏A good bike is a good bike!

@@harzenduro .... Yes. If you care even 1% about pedal efficiency, then the Transition Sentinel is NOT for you. It's a slug. So yes...you can think you are getting a bike that ticks the boxes, but be sorely disappointed by the performance if you don't take the time to demo them.

Willbros I guess I was lucky then having bought a Megatower without the chance to demo it. It ticks all the boxes for me but then again, I have never really cared about pedal efficiency or geometry. It needs to be good on the downhill. The rest is just a mere inconvenience.

@@harzenduro .... I'm not suggesting that we can't get good bikes by ordering them sight unseen. I am saying that if you have particular performance dynamics that riders want from a bike, then demo'ing them and getting a feel for those subleties can make the difference between a bike that you absolutely love, or one that you ride for a few years and don't ever quite jive with. I had a Transition Bandit 27.5, and the rear triangle broke. I loved that bike. They replaced it with a Scout frame when they didn't have anything for the Bandit. It should have been a great bike for our area, but I never liked it. The 125mm rear travel, down from the 140 of the Bandit, wasn't enough....and even after adding a 150mm fork and angle set, it just never felt as composed as the bandit either. But....FFWD a year, and I demo'd the carbon Patrol, and it did everything i WANTED the Scout to do...pedaled well, and descended amazingly well. Then later, I bought a used GT Force thinking it would be a more aggressive trail bike to complement the Patrol, and I HATED that bike. We just did not jive well at all. But...that taught me a lesson, DEMO. So, when I was convinced I wanted a Sentinel, I tried it and just about everything else at Outerbike Bentonville. And...it was about the worst bike I rode out of all of them, and the Ripmo killed it, even though it wasn't even on my list up to that point. So....that's why I always encourage people to demo bikes whenever possible, even if it's just to confirm what you already think! And to your point...what I loved about the Ripmo is its ability to rip the descents, AND pedal amazingly well. That's what I wanted, because in Arkansas you earn every inch of your downs, so pedaling a slug can be miserable on hot summer days.

I've got a 35mm stem on there. I might try a 50mm as well (which is what Ibis recommends for size large and XL) to see how it handles.

The Loam Ranger Thanks for the answer. I m 5’9” and have the large Ripmo AF with 50mm stem. Great all around but feel little heavy in the front. I’m considering a shorter stem.

Pole is slightly more stable (longer chainstays); Ibis is more maneuverable; the Ripmo has the best suspension design IMO; service and support is going to be faster when you’re dealing with a local shop; do you like carbon or Aluminium? Both are good bikes, but the Ripmo2 is a number of years more current, so it employs the latest tech and suspension design. Again, both are good, it just depends on what you want out of a bike and the company you buy it from. I’m loving the Ripmo so far!

Ibis spec's their Ripmo2 builds with 44mm offset Fox forks, but being that we're on MRP, we had a choice between 51, 46 and 41. I chose 46mm.
