Hi Mike. I operated a 1150b case dozer years ago. I found the best way to remove rippers was to rip them into the ground a little bit remove the pins and lift them up and leave them standing there. Reversal when putting them back. Saves a lot of back strain. Hoping there’s soft ground to do it. Cheers keep up the good work. Love watching your videos.

I've spent many of hours on my big dozer here in the Rocky mountain northwest and for not having much seat time with rippers you done it pretty much like a pro. About the only thing I probably would've done different is that since you were going to go to a single rippers at the end would've been to drop the middle rippers at the beginning to lessen the drag by 33% but it's a fine line because you're also increasing stress on the shanks. Just remember not to turn while the shanks are in the ground, they're not very strong in that direction. Great job DP & crew!

Nice to see you all going for proper depth in your trench work. Being from SoCal, proper depth was totally scrutinized by inspectors as it should be. Here in Northern New Mexico in retirement, were LUCKY if subs dig to proper depths. I hit some Fiber at 6 to 8 inches, and power came in at a deep deep 18 inches. Not good. Thank-you for being a quality thinker type contractor.

We used to sink the ripper in the ground if we could and then pull the pins to take them out. Then when you are ready to put them back in they are standing up

Mike, that ripper worked awesome and Yes, I was waiting to here your comments on the ripper versus hammer so I did not have to write a paragraph here! While you had it in the shop, you should have added a front and back camera's to the 850J and tied the controls into the transmission direction (Front view going forward/Rear view going backwards). There is a perfect place to put a screen dead center on console without messing up the view. I was thinking, you should have left the center ripper to give you better pulling control, I'm sure you did not, but maybe you should use the 850J ripper first before digging the remaining water pipe. 👍👍

You hyped up this video in your last video and you did not disappoint. That really was fun to watch. Crazy at how much pull that dozer has. Watching those tracks spin you just know that is just pure raw power. It also makes you cringe a little knowing how hard it is on the tracks just to do that. You can't expect any less, though, when you are ripping rock. Thanks so much for sharing. I loved it!!

Regarding the hose reel modifications; I suggest, removing the hoops, welding a bar between the two vertical guides (for support), then weld in more bar, making a vertical rectangle behind and perpendicular to the support bar. Biggest problem with my suggestion is, you don't have any bar stock or a welder where you're at so you'll need to take the hose reel back to where those two items are available? Next hose reel mod, a flip open cage or fence so hose stays on reel? I'm curious how you'll modify the hose reel? ;-)

Pretty impressive. It’s easy to forget just how big that dozer really is! It’s definitely going to pay off over the years! I was surprised how much damage to the rock can be done simply by the tracks spinning on top. Sandstone is funny stuff. You are exactly right about the fitting you are using! The SharkBites are to be used only in areas where you can readily access them. Just like residential use, they are not to be used even in behind drywall, let alone buried under 36” of dirt! Hahaha. Must be nice having such a shallow frost line!!! We dug everything down 8 feet. At the ranch in the feedlot potion. We kinda took shortcuts and only went 6.5 - 7 feet in the older section (before my time) and we had one year that was the coldest I remembered, winter 1981-1982, and any lines that weren’t at least 8 feet deep froze, solid for hundreds of feet!! We had to bring in a contractor the next year and redo all the water lines to the older pens,,,, there were just over 8000 head we had to haul water for into temporary water troughs with electric heaters in them to keep the ice off,,,, it was a lot of work! There were 200 - 220 calves in each pen at the beginning of winter and that tapers down as they get larger. That was 40 pens with 40 waterers from Christmas until late March, then we had to shuffle cattle all summer as the contractor replaced the lined. Each pen was 200 x 220 feet so there were about 2 miles of lines and digging to be done!!! Very little rock as that had been dealt with when they dug the first lines in. T fittings and a branch about 30 feet every 220 ft where the line was run to each waterer. The main line was run in the alleyways so it was accessible even with cattle in the pens should there be a water break. Being just the client it seemed very daunting, but the contractor came in and had no problems meeting his deadline. He would even move the cattle with his crew as needed to keep from wasting time waiting on us or anything like that. We met each day to make sure there was a pen or 2 ready for them to move the cattle to. He was an excellent contractor. Finished almost 2 weeks early and as a result I paid a bonus as per the contract!! No problem!! All that going on stressed the cattle and stressed cattle don’t gain weight too well. I made it back in the weight gains over the next 2 weeks, I’m sure! Crews like DPs crew are a great asset for each client AND the community. They are a contractor that can be trusted, referred by you to others and not be worried he will mess up that job, and the fact they are always busy with worked backed up a bit, it means that the other contractors are forced to up their games if they are not already as DPs crew!! It promotes excellence, you could say. Well done Mike, Matt and the whole gang!!!

In the region of Pennsylvania where I live we use rock dust or sometimes called quarry dust to bed water lines in. I found that was cheaper then sand and actually worked better then sand for me. Crazy to watch that downward rip force. That 850 has some serious power!! When those three rippers dug in you can see the back of the dozer start squatting and that’s where the true power of that machine lies! Damn impressive watching her go into action. And for a person with not a lot of seat time ripping you did a great job.

Put your single ripper in the center slot, it will keep your track on better ground and it won’t pull your dozer to the side. Both tracks pulling with even power means more power.
@MatthewJRedmond
@MatthewJRedmond 2 жыл бұрын
He put it to the side in order to get that tooth deeper in the ground to reach the depth they needed with that track down in the trench 👍
@davidtrick8323
@davidtrick8323 2 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewJRedmond right but he was only ripping 6 inches at a time with a 36 inch ripper because he couldn’t get bite or traction. And when he went on the flat by the house he was having the same problem, one track dropping into into the trench, slipping and only one track with good bite.
@MatthewJRedmond
@MatthewJRedmond 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidtrick8323 I thought he said he was down to one because he was only looking to rip a small trench for the lines and since the Ripper wouldn't go 36 inches deep he needed to get that side lower so he left that one side in. Same reason when he turned around he corner bit the trench to drop lower in the trench with the track. I would guess when he got up to the house he just ran it the way it was already setup instead of taking the time to move it as it was late in the day. I could be wrong though. You are of course right though it would keep both tracks on good ground and center the strain on the machine.

It's good to see the dozer ripper in action. Looks like it worked out really well for what you needed to do. Question: What about a single ripper tooth for the excavator? Fairly inexpensive, swaps out easy, and could clean up some of those slightly shallow areas? Just a thought. Great video...

when ya remove the ripper tines try sticking them in softer ground deep and raise them up, the loose one stays and it makes it a whole lot easier putting them back in if they are standing up. so the slope isn't going to make a runoff ditch on top of your water pipe
