Leo actually made more sound decisions as a leader. He knew enough not to trust Big Mama. He was often wiser, but his lack of confidence and control made him hide behind his joking disposition.

I can't say that Leo is fully ready to be leader. However, I feel that is because he has not been put in a situation that requires him to be more incontrol of his immature actions and use his skills like Raph has. Through many episodes, Leo has been shown as a great motivator, a clever strategist, is very observent, and is trusting of his teams capabilities. He needs experience. I think putting him in the leadership role would be like a wake up call to dealing with responsibility and giving him a chance to grow into a leader a bit more. I think if written correctly, this may work in the movie (if they focus on it that is).

Rottmnt being canceled was so aggravating for a lot of us. I really wish they continued it since the show has so many fans and potential! I dont like how many things were rushed but I understand and its very sad 😞. Leo being leader now I feel like is going to cause some problems for a lot of reasons, I dont think he's ready but maybe this is what he needs if yall get my drift? I hope it goes well for Leo and the rottmnt future, great video once again!

With the plot hole you mentioned about the brooch: I just assumed they were super rare, hence why Sunita was so protective of it and why the only other person we see that has access to them is Big Mama and her hotel staff. I mean, even Draxum could only manage to get his hands on one that could only turn him into a teddy bear and not just a different Yokai or human. Though, I agreed seeing Splinter and the Turtles be human for a day by wearing the brooches would've been AWESOME!!

my take on leonardo being leader and why splinter chose him at the end is because he saw his potential in the " manny unhappy returns " ep yes he is silly and lazy sometimes...but the guy knows his brothers very very well and isn't afraid to let them grow and learn.. he make plans that goes well with their skills and personalities. don't get me wrong I really like raph as a leader it was so refreshing and he's genuinely good .. but i can see as well why leo is gonna be better.. like the episode when mikey wanted to do a mission by himself.. raph as big bro was protective" which mostly one of the reasons why i realky like this version of him so much" leo however Encourages mikey to do the mission by himself. raph is a great leader but is actually a greater big brother. leo is a great tactician .. he can calculate plans while on the run .. like he outsmarted big mama! and there's lier game episode .. he was planning to Lose all along! he's unmotivated most of the time but when he's under stressful situations or raph in trouble you can see him take the lead and his brothers naturally go along with him no questions asked. leo was meant to be leader from the start but raph grew on the team just as he grew on me and now I'm torn between the two of them i like raph as leader but i want to see leonardo's potential. and i really don't want classic leo &raph fight over leadership I love their relationship here and this would ruin them DAMMIT. can't they be semi leading or something? arghhh

I really loved the show, and was angry to learn how Nick mistreated it. I said this before and I’ll say it again: *Rise of the TMNT* is one of my favorite shows period. It has that *Spider-Man: Homecoming* feel where the show runners know that we know these characters front, back, and sideways. So just like John Watts, they want to keep us on our toes while also giving as much fan service in Easter Eggs and References as possible! Plus having the previous voice actor for Splinter play Shredder is kind of surreal.

Also I like to add that when he heard The Foot EXISTED Rise Splinter went out of his way to fight the Foot and make sure they don't awaken the Shredder while 12 Splinter tried his sons to exhaustion when they were almost killed by Shredder. Also I like to add that Rise Leo is a decent tactician possibly the best out of any iteration.

I feel that Leo becoming leader has actually been built up, Splinter himself has seen his potential in S2e01 "Why don't any of you guys trust me?" Simply put Rise Leo is just what happens to him if he doesn't burden himself with responsibility, remember in 2003 Mike says that Leo gives up on having fun so that his brothers CAN, but in the case of Rise Leo, he has a huge amount of potential that he simply wastes so forcing him into the leadership position will show him his potential.

Yo, Rise of the TMNT as a whole was freaking remarkable and fascinating! There was character development, references, and even bodacious action! I even had my wish come true about my personal favorite turtle, Donatello. He went from the concept art to how I actually wanted him to look like, and that's the length of his bandana! First, the Hamato Clan outfit, then the Hamato 2.0! Those 2 episodes got me to shut up about Donnie! If Playmates make the Turtles figures have the Hamato Clan outfits and the Hamato 2.0 designs, I'm DEFINITELY buying all 4 of them!

Like to see another trans dimensional turtle crossover and see the Rise, 2012 and 87 turtles react towards each other and possibly fight a shredder from another universe separate from theirs

I watched the season 2 finale of Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nicktoons channel, and it was very emotional and it was awesome!! And I still can't wait to watch Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Movie that'll be coming to Netflix in 2021!! I am so excited about this! Cowabunga and BOOYAKASHA!! 😁😄✌🐢🍕

I actually think it was pretty well setup throughout the series that Leo was going to be leader eventually. It’s interesting, these turtles exist in an alternate timeline so to speak, where their lives played out differently so their personalities are a little different, but the fundamentals are still there. Raph, in this world, was made leader by default, due to being an immense snapping turtle. This meant he never felt marginalized or ignored, so he never developed anger issues as this version, HOWEVER, he’s still a very blunt and to the point sort of person, lacking in any finesse, so he often ends up overwhelmed by complex situations he can’t punch. Leo, in this world, never felt the pressure of being put in charge, but he still has savant levels of natural talent, so he became a cocky showboat. However, he has a mind for tactics that’s simply underutilized, and he often sees the big picture and plans four steps ahead. Had the writers been given more time, I’m sure the leadership shift would have had more of a buildup, but it’s been coming for a while. Also, according to the tweet from Nickelodeon a couple weeks back, the RotTMNT movie - which is apparently still in the works - is going to involve Leo getting to grips with suddenly being in charge.

Maybe April documenting the "Lair Games" foreshadows her future career in journalism. I'm not a Rise fan, but I applaud them for setting up things that we expect from a Turtles Series. I think it was a mistake to make it such a slow burning show though, and the way that each episode is split into two parts doesn't help either.

Completely agree with everything you said about Splinter. Even before we find out his backstory, the show does a great job of making him likeable despite his laziness, and he grew on me right away. And I have what may be a controversial take, but I feel like these turtles don’t really need a leader at all, at least not yet. But i do agree that Raph was better suited for the role than Leo. I’d really love to see the whole situation addressed in the movie, it’d be a really fun new take on the whole raph vs leo angst stuff. :D 🍕🐢

i think leo’s rise to leadership was done as best as a show that kept getting the short end of the stick could have gone. Leo doesn’t want to be leader, or more likely he doesn’t strive to be it, he is content with Raph being leader, but even then we see Leo face a lot of insecurities saying he is just a face man or wishing his family trusted him more. Not to mention Leo is naturally a better more capable leader, he has the smarts, the wits, the skills and the compassion needed, he out performs Raph so many times and ends up saving the day A LOT of times. I don’t think Leo gunning for the leader role would suit the dynamic the turtles have, all the brothers love each other and there isn’t a dynamic where they feel like they have to one up each other, at least not in a serious manner. In the 2012 version the raph vs leo made sense cause their relationship was written with that in mind, but in rise they all love and respect each other dearly. I think in the movie Leo might feel bad for being the leader cause he cares for his brother and also he has his own doubts so i think your idea for his rise to leader ship would betray the writing and feel very weird. I honestly think Splinter forcing the role on Leo makes logical sense and the abruptness would make for great writing in the movie. But of course i believe more hints or subtle build up would help the transition for the audience who might not notice the hints.

The Shadow Fiend taking Meatsweats, Hypno, and Foot Recruit was for Big Mama's Battle Nexus. We see Meatsweats and Hypno teamed with Mikey and Donnie in the tournament, as they were kidnapped while Shredder was still under her control. Foot Recruit turned up within the Shadow Orb thingy. So we do see them again, but as soon as they're free from the challenges they bounce.

There was so much that got cut and so many plotlines that had to be dropped when season 2 was cancelled part way, other wise I'm sure we would've gotten a lot more really good content, the finale was literally impromptu, still really good, but a lot was lost

I think Raphael as leader is great but the show was always slowly showing that Leo would become leader. Raphael feels a heavy burden as leader. Most of his plans include hitting it until it works. I think once Leo’s in charge Raphael will feel that it was the right choice while holding a small grudge which would explain his angsty personality. Also the attendance sticker chart thingy shows just how much Ralph tries more than everyone else shows just how hard he works to be good enough but just isn’t fit enough as Leonardo.

Something I see about Leo and the whole leader thing is that while he has a some key qualities for a leader, since he’s not the oldest he’s not responsible and just lets loose and can be casual. Not mention I don’t think Leo would even want the leader role. He’d joke around about “hey I’m the boss of you guys now” but I can see him not wanting to bear the responsibility of being leader.

I really wish ROTMNT had lasted longer. I know it's wishful thinking now but I was hoping Krang and The Utrom would've been the main antagonists now that Shredder is basically dead

Great video, dude! ^v^ couple quick things: yeahhh, the whole 'Leo being leader' thing, I'm pretty sure that was just an ending gag meant as a nod to the people who wanted Leo as leader and kept asking for it. A couple on the writers on Twitter said they preferred Raph as Leader too, so yeah, I just interpret that moment as one last joke, - though if they focus on him having an arc in the movie about becoming a proper leader, I won't mind. I just want it focused on Leo accepting the role himself and seeing the value in it instead of just another Raph VS Leo fight. This and '87 were the only series that didn't have the two of them bickering over the role, and I reaaaaaally don't want that to change :/ Also, I really do love Splints in this series, him and Raph are my faves. An incarnation of Splinter having depression after all the trauma he went through is a really interesting twist, and I just loved seeing him become a better teacher and father as the show went on, with eps like End Game showing just how much he loves his sons. So yeah, anyone who says Splinter is just a lazy rat or the dumbass dad trope obviously only watched the first few eps. One last quick thing: "(Draxum) became like a brother to Splinter." ...UMMMMM *insert "they're gay, Harold" meme here* I mean, he's literally their second dad, and did you see how he looked at Lou Jitsu's abs ("there were none tighter!") in the Warring Warrior Scientist song? Lol. But in all seriousness, yeah, I really loved Draxum's redemption arc too, I just wish we could've gotten a few more episodes of development and him interacting with the other turtles (and reuniting with Huginn and Muninn) But yeah, awesome vid! Thank you again for giving Rise the respect it deserves, can't wait to see more videos from you!

Well, this was pretty good. Just discovered the show a couple weeks ago and Its been mostly a wonderful rush and incredibly charming. I do have some thoughts. 1) Giving Leo the leader role might've been a joke but, because this version of the team shows the leader role as more of a position of responsibility, I could see the movie framing Leo's leadership as a test of sorts to get him to become the proper type of leader he needs to be. 2) Draxum's redemption... was iffy for me. I love this version of Mikey but the reason for Draxum's redemption being "Because family" gave me Steven Universe vibes in the worst way. Think of it like if, in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Yondu said to Peter "I may have been your daddy, but Ego's your father". If Draxum was seen more as a Liu Jitsu fanboy in the "Creation" scene like he is in the season 1 song, I'd have loved to see how him remembering his enjoyment of seeing Splinter fight would return, only to fuel a guilt of being behind his mutation. Instead, the "creation" is a lot more formal and reads more like Greek Mythology. Specifically, when Zeus would see a hot mortal and... not take no as an answer. If anything, to take the wind out of Draxum's sails, they should have said that, even though he mutated them, they became a family despite what they went through. I am prepared to believe this is a me problem, if someone told me to forgive a guy for doing all sorts to me and my kids because he was their dad... that would be pretty screwed up. However, unlike other shows like Steven Universe, MLP, She-ra and movies like Reya and the Last dragon do with their main villain redemptions (Peridot was a lackey, not a main villain), season 2 has Draxum working with the team. Sure, he slips back into his vices, but he comes out better usually. Plus, if you don't like him, he gets tazed and put under the playdate from Hell so there's that. Thats why I find this redemption frustrating because it gets plenty of the right beats but the framing is bordering on toxic. If I were to to iron out some issues, here's 3 episode ideas. 1) On his day off, Draxum on his own accord decides to patrol with Leo, Donnie, Raph and/or April. Mikey may need to be absent so he doesn't envelope this. Draxum notices all the teamwork and banter, trying to get in on it or force himself in but it doesn't work. What works though is when he opens up about his feelings, regrets and tries to fight alongside them, complementing their styles. 2) Draxum reunites with the imps, they hate how he's serving humans and doesn't even have a dogbed for them. Shenanigans and chaos ensues, putting either them or Draxum in danger and, by the end, Draxum apologises for treating them like animals instead of employees and either helps them land a good gig or they stay with him in very small trundle beds. 3) After being made to watch a Liu Jitsu marathon with at least Mikey and Splinter, Draxum's long buried fanboy enjoyment of the movies rears up... until a movie appears which was supposed to have a part 2. However, since Big Mama imprisoned Splinter before filming could begin and he was mutated, that movie never got beyond the script. Draxum then sees how his experiments messed up Splinter's career and tries to fix it in one of three ways. Either he goes to his old lab's wreckage with Mikey to find an antidote to the mutation he made in case a mutant was too strong to control, he tries to get an amulet from Big mama since she's pretty much got a monopoly on them or he breaks into the studio to find that long lost script. These can work or fail in different ways but the point is that Draxum's internal and external guilt drove him to try and fix this for his creations' dad and, regardless of the outcome, this mends things a little for him and Splinter, showing that, whilst they're not going to be having a honeymoon in Ibiza anytime soon, there's a mutual respect for each other. Yeah, I'm late to the party but I wonder how other people thought of these and my ideas.

Will you do a top 5/top 10 best episodes list for Rise some time? If you do, I feel like you should just rank the half-hour eps in their own list, given that otherwise they'd probably take up most of the list, lol. Plus, as awesome as episodes like ELoM, End Game, and Battle Nexus New York are when it comes to action and developing the story, I really love the lighter, funnier and more slice of life focused 11-min eps too, so they should get a bit of the spotlight as well.

I fell in love with Rise almost instantly. The art is just awesome, the comedy hits. A bit fast paced at times, but that didn't bother me too much. I'm actually baffled at why it was received so poorly when the 2003 series was received so well. In my totally objective opinion, the 2003 series was kinda lame... The art was stiff, the comedy was lame, I just don't get it. Whatevs!

Heads up!! You need to spam Viacom on Twitter for getting Rise of the TMNT back!! Andy said so himself! Raph has shown very good leader qualities but he isn't a leader, he can't come up with plans, doesn't do well under pressure, he's gullible and prefers to charge in fists blazing, he's the best boi anf had some great moments but he isn't leader material, Leo on the other hand had the best qualities, he's smart, creative, has great charisma which he used to sway his brothers into listening to him in Origami Tsunami, he's quick on his feet and is a great tactician like in Air Turtle and Many Unhappy returns when he showed that he knows his brothers very well and knows their strenghts and weaknesses and could use that as an advantage against an enemy, and I agree that it should have been more builded up, like they could've had that as a side plot in the other half of season 2 with Leo learning from Karai and wanting to be better and trying to help on missions but it would feel like he's trying to show off Raph, which would lead to the classic Leo and Raph rivalry for a few episodes until they both talk and share their insecurities with one another and Raph decides to make Leo the leader, hope we at least get something similar to that in the movie.

I honestly don't think any one turtle was supposed to be leader. Yeah, they call Raph leader and they rely on him as one, but I think the show was building to make them all leaders in some way. I mean, we see Donnie leading, and I think eventually we would have seen that out of Mikey too. If Leo were to become leader, I don't think it would come out of a want to do so. There is no rivalry between him and Raph, so I honestly think it would have come at the encouragement of someone around them. Like Splinter. At some point Leo would have needed to learn how to lead, and Raph would have needed to learn how to follow. I think it would have become a situation specific thing. Both of them jump in as leader at different times to suit their strengths and weaknesses. I don't believe the creators ever intended on a rivalry dynamic since that dynamic is overplayed in other versions of the franchise.

I tried to give the show a chance… But it’s just bad I can’t get behind pretty much anything they changed from the other shows. My favorite was always the 2003 ninja turtles and I had very low expectations for the 2012 version , But in the end that show really surprise me and I have a whole new respect an love for that show. But this one had some cool elements that I enjoyed but so much is different and not just different just not as good as the others to the point it ruins the show completely for me.

Theres honestly something wrong with people if they actually think it was a good change. Way too imature and too much magic and no believable japanese or ninja tradition in it at all .
