This is a 3rd generation Rivarossi 2 8 8 2 Mallet round motor in the cab. I remotored it and cut the front of the frame installed a motor below the smoke stack. The gear boxes had to be flip flopped . The front of the aluminum frame had to be shaved down alot to line the motor up . I did all this as an experiment using a smashed locomotive I got from ebay it was missing part of the front pilot. In the video you can see it's home made . Doesn't look to bad.I wanted to have the cab detail .I added the fire box with flicker a cab light and ash pan flicker front markers and red tail lights and sound using a cheap xl dcc decoder they do the job but to be truthful sound quality it horrible but not as bad digitrax down the road I will change it to a soundtraxx. The motor is 16000 it seams alot but these 3rd generation Mallets are geared down alot and are way to slow . I used a 3 pole motor that just fits in the front could find a 5 pole that would fit plus good luck finding a 5 pole with enough rpm. the rivarossi that have the square motor in the 2 8 8 2 Mallets have a higher gear and you don't need a motor with that much rpm 12000 will do it.As far as the front light the original one the bulb came up from the bottom and did not shine bright at all I took the top part off and hollowed it out and used a small led right behind the lense. looks good to me.
