I can't believe it's finally happening ... Y'all better appreciate this, because the amount of work it'll take to remake Riven is staggering. Thank you to everyone at Cyan for putting this project together, can't wait for more updates!

I still think Riven has some of the best looking pre-rendered graphics of any game ever made. The only problem is they don't look their best on a modern display. Looking forward to going through this world again with a new coat of paint.

I hope the Cyan team knows how appreciated they are. These games have a special place in many of our lives. Revisiting Myst ages always feels like going home to pieces of my childhood. Riven is the only Myst sequel I wasn't able to play growing up, our computer was always incompatible (I'm likely one of the youngest fans here). Beyond psyched to finally have the chance to play what I've been told is the finest entry in the series.

I was only 8 years old when Riven first came out but playing it was an utterly formative experience in my life and remains my favorite game ever made. never used hints so it took me 5 years to beat in my spare time. it’s a true masterpiece and its impact on my artistic sensibilities and even my personality cannot be overstated. This game meant so much to me in my teens. I had a really tumultuous home life and any time I found some peace and quiet I would escape to Riven. It was such a fun place to explore, it was beautiful, the story was engaging, the easter eggs, the little things like running into that little girl in the woods, the knocking 5 times on the hut, the puzzles were hard but not illogical... I only have one tattoo and it's of a Moiety/rebel dagger. This is the best day ever (and on Halloween/Anniversary to boot)! I think I'm tearing up, lol. Anyone else remember Spyder and the Cho page on Cyan's official page around then? I love you Cyan! Thank you so much!

Been watching development of this for 10 years now. This will be fantastic. So much blood sweat and tears has gone into this. Started as a fan project given the graces of Cyans assets to Cyan eventually scooping them up into the inner workings to solidify what will be an incredible masterpiece.

This is exactly what I need at the darkest point in my life and I can't even begin to state how incredibly important this game is to me. I just wish my dad was still alive to see this.

They posted just a bunch of textures on their Facebook a while back and I immediately knew it was Riven. That’s how many times I’ve played it. The designs, the way the puzzles are integrated into the Age, the story and the history…perfect! And just listen to that soundtrack! Can’t wait to go back!!

The first 3 entries of this series even in recent years were an enjoyable experience. Mind you I was a kid of the 90's. To me they are amazing games, I love the ambience, music, visuals, world building and puzzles. Edit: To add, Atrus is iconic as a character partly because of the actor's depiction to me. The difficulty at times is steep but surmountable, I'd recommend taking notes and if needed, photos/screenshots or drawings and maps with specific notes for locations. Oh and sometimes reading is required, in fact one puzzle in the first 3 entries I remember absolutely depends on you noticing something you'll only find while reading.

I'm so excited for this. Myst is probably better known among the public since it was the first of its kind, but Riven was the pinnacle of the form. You guys (and girls) pushed the entire industry to give gamers something more than a gun and a target to shoot at, and now the whole industry talks about environmental storytelling and balance and pace and narrative and so on. Can't wait to see what Riven looks and feels like now that technology has finally started to catch up with what's been inside your heads for all these years.

I love that you can see actual weld points in the new version of the riven logo. Makes it feel like it's an actual physical object. Happy to see Cyan's classic attention to detail is alive and well, hopefully will be utilized well in this remake!

Fantastic news. I remember RIven as a younger lad when it was on 4 cds. That beginning intro setting the mood wonderfully. Even now Riven is still a great game and I play it yearly. The detail in that world made it feel very much real. I'll always remember how eerie it was when after taking a ride on the maglev, which in itself is addicting and captivating, I walked into a hall and for a split second Gehn's face was in that projector. I quickly made my way to the room with the projector chair and he wasn't there. Even now it's still spooky. It felt like Gehn was actually watching you. I can't wait!

What a great announcement on Riven's 25th anniversary! After having played through Myst on a Macintosh IIsi back in early 1994 together with three school friends cramped in front of that small CRT during a seven hour nonstop session when we all did not know what was coming beforehand, Riven was one of the first games I waited for with great anticipation and also paid out of my own pocket - Now, I'm happily looking forward to it once again.

Particularly Ghen and his right hand man are so iconic for me in this game. If only there was some way to use live actors in a realtime 3D game... Then again, maybe there IS a way... So hyped and excited for this. Riven is still incredibly immersive as it is, and looking at it today I now kind of see it as "the VR of 1997" - as close as you could get. Even on a 15-inch CRT and with the artifacty video, that first tram ride felt like literally being there. It's a world you can practically feel straining to break out of its technological shackles. I can't WAIT to see what Cyan can do with it now.

This announcement made me jump out of my seat with joy! The truly magical adventure game moments in the original of reaching Age 233 and the Rebel Age still live vividly in my memory years and years later. The joy and wonder of those story rewards is unforgettable. Myst's very close to my heart. It's one of the absolute best series I've played!

I JUST replayed Riven this past summer, revisiting it for the first time in almost 25 years, and it amazed me how well it still held up. The world-building and level of detail in this game is incredible. The Wahrk encounter sent a shiver up my spine, and Gehn was still terrifying. I can't wait for this new release. Thank you Cyan!

I bought the original one-island-per-CD version. Then was super happy to buy the all-in-one DVD version. It sure looks like I’m gonna buy it again. :) I have no problem with that. :) I never did reach the end of Riven without help (the door covering the path to Ghen’s lab and the dome drove me absolutely crazy), but I felt I really was in Riven while playing it. The rides from island to island still make me smile every time. :) Thank you for doing this!!!

To see the world of riven in 3D would be amazing!! Loved the original. Hope the atmosphere is still the same, I load up Riven just to listen to the background sounds to chill out

Holy crap!!!! I just finished playing the remake of MYST and I ADORED it. I thought to myself "I sure do hope they do Riven or even MYST III and IV.." AND THEN THIS TRAILER DROPS. I'm so excited o m g I've been a fan of this series since I was a child so, seeing HD remakes of these games is unreal to me. The only hope I have for Riven is that there's an option in it as well to keep the original live actors in scenes. The 3D models they used in place of them in the remake were...a bit unappealing to look at.

I'm definitely gonna go and play Myst Exile again just to get ready for this. I always loved writing down notes for these games. The music, atmosphere and visuals are something I'll never forget.

I... am at a loss right now at this news. I have heard about Riven for years as being one of the toughest puzzle games around. After finally playing the remake of Myst all I've wanted was to get a chance at solving the legend of a game. And now it seems that chance has arrived. I can only hope it's available on Switch or PS4. Otherwise it'll be hard to get access to it. But regardless of where it is. I'll be sure to buy it at least once, and spread the word. Thank you Cobalt, I truly cannot wait to play this thing. But please take your time. As Myst has taught us, the book is only good if the author takes the time and care needed in its creation.

For me Myst was the revolutionary game from a technical perspective, but Riven is the game that really sucked me in and that I have an emotional connection with. I fondly remember the breathtaking environments, the atmosphere created by the music and even the near heart-attack when I encountered ... someone in an up to that point completely deserted world. I still listen to the soundtrack every once in a while (although I do admit in terms of soundtrack nothing beats Exile). All this to say: can't wait for the remake!

I am so excited about this. Riven is still my favorite Cyan game and one of my all time favorites. Thank you Cyan for making this happen. ♥️

Riven, to me, is (next to Populous The Beginning and Morrowind) the game that defined my youth so much. It's the one game that got me into game development. So good to see whatever you guys are doing, be it remake or remaster! The original Riven, despite the low resolution still holds up today. The soundtrack, the atmosphere, the lore. To this day this world is absolutely magical to me, and still manages to suck me in as it did the first time. If I can make any request in regards to this release, please provide a version with an artbook or something. I love to have some insight in the development of the original and this project. I just played Myst on Oculus after YEARS of remembering it from playing as a kid, but not being able to beat it myself back then. I had a great time with it, and I’m really eager to get a chance to dive into Riven in VR one day. Can’t wait to learn more!

I absolutely cannot wait for this remake. I remember getting this game from a raffle when it was still the multi-disk game, with one disk for each island. Thank you for making my childhood, and I am completely excited for this view on Riven!

As long as i remember no sequel of myst was close to riven when it comes to rendering and textures. It was 2D but we was able to "sense" the depth of field. Of course it has to do with the game having still images so you can put everything you can to realise and environnement that comes close to a real environnement. The colors, the sun shades, the textures of the rocks, the amount of details was perfect. By making it 3D, will Cyan be able to render all of this so it can revive the "spirit" of Riven? Another thing that was a "marker" of the greatness of this games. The music and the sounds! The example that cames to my mind is the sound that water makes when splaching gently to the wall of the tunnel when entering the village. Wow I can't wait to play it again. Thanks Cyan

Myst & Riven are staples of my childhood. I'm thrilled to see a remake of Riven is in the works. If the latest Myst remake is any indication, this will be a real treat.

I spent hours, and I mean HOURS on the original game just walking around and exploring (that poor wahrk got so angry at me too many times). I always had the next CD ready to insert when I traveled to a new island XD One of my favorite games, and such a nostalgic one at that. This teaser gave me chills. I'm so excited!! Thank you Cyan!!

Riven was the first video game I ever played. I always sat down with my mom and we'd try to figure it out together, fiddling with discs and wearing down pencils. It will always mean a lot to me. RIVEN was my start into the MYST world in 1997. It never failed me since then... (Goodness, I was in my 20s back then, now I am in my 50s! That's totally bonkers!) I am curious if they can keep the mesmerizing magic in a complete 3D world.

Let's goooooooooooooooo! My younger brother and I could barely agree on anything when we were kids, but one of the few things that brought us together was solving puzzles in adventure games. For a few months this game was our entire world. The Miller brothers and the brilliant minds of Cyan have our eternal respect and love.
