Maa Saraswati River was a natural barrier, which protected Bharat from foreign invasions for thousands of years, Later Indra Dev se kuch panga ho gya then, maa Saraswati flow was mellow down (earlier its flow was like lion roaring) India been so advanced because it had natural barriers Himalaya to west Sea on 3 sides And maa Saraswati River However when it was dried up, it gave a clear road for Islamic invasions

Even during the later half of Mahabharata, the river Saraswati maintained a subterranean flow..the dry channel bed and their surrounding areas had green and dense forests. Even today digging in the path of this mighty river yields sweet water that is probably as old as the Mahabharata. Imagine...some of these waters must have touched some key people of those days and is today locked up in aquifers...the river was still monsoon fed for a long time after it stopped flowing as a perennial river. The paleo channels still yield sediments that are Himalayan in origin... what can I say about a river that gave birth to a civilization and knowledge that is timeless and boundless...also it is said that she was a loud river and Ved Vyas asked her to go underground while Lord Ganesh was writing the epic at his narration...the fight between Bhima and Duruodhana occurred at a dried up loamy part of the river bed...indicating that the river was drying up towards the end of Mahabharata...the demise of this river also marked the arrival of Kali Yuga

Thank you for this elucidation. It is imperative that we read and study our Ithihaasas and Puraanas just AS THEY ARE and HOW THEY ARE, and not as how we are. We should expand our minds to wrap around their immense grandeur, glory and wonder, and not shrink, reduce and fragment them to fit our present limited abilities and capacities.

this river undoubtly had great impact on our civilization....saraswati is not only devi of knowledge, wisdom,,,,she signifies memory & diplomacy too....which we lost after that period...it might look like superstisious but we must provide the river to flow again in order to regain our lost memory and wisdom..

Namaskar Nileshji, excellent work. One query - Is there any possibility that due to high powered advanced weopanry (Atomic Power etc.) used in Mahabharata war there was significant geological impact in the war zone and beyond and thus impacted and altered the geography and the resukting geological upheavels have changed the path/ flow of mighty River Saraswati. An unintended consequence of war though.

Nilesh ji One speculation, It is possible that, our ancestors turn Yamuna river flow, for their agriculture and water needs As we know, harrapan, indus valley etc civilizations were very very advanced when it comes to water mgmt drainage systems etc.

@UCQ82hwQlwGaR39c1Ur09m4g While a linear viewpoint of civilization assumes progress in one direction, a cyclic/pericyclic view of the civilization perfectly comprehends sophistication of civilizations going through ups and down with time. There is much evidence for the latter.
