Child star Ryan Grantham, best known for his roles in Riverdale, diary of a wimpy kid & supernatural, took a sharp turn when his acting roles dried out in early 2020. He fell into psychosis and began spending all his time alone in his bedroom planning mass murder. He was aiming big, hoping to assassinate the prime minister Justin Trudeau, but he would start small - in his own home, murdering his own mother.

The cases of the downward spiral of child actors are so sad. That's why I find Janette McCurdy's book "I'm glad my mom died", interesting as she didn't end up like most child actors

@@danbam3411damn that kinda off rude…even in the book McCurdy doesn’t pass judgment to her co-stars for starring in the reboot, what gives us the right to criticize them? At the end of the day this is dealing with peoples careers who if you heard from most of the icarly staff sadly they also went through some of the same pains as McCurdy. There is no reason to call these people names when they have also been exploited lol

@@danbam3411 You are aware Dan Schneider was equally as predatory with Miranda… right? Every female child star that worked for Nickelodeon rarely ever has just one gross story to tell about him. There’s not one bit of behind the scenes footage which shows Miranda acting naturally, or comfortably, the second he walks in the room. Her entire demeanor changes, each and every time. This is not at all to say one had it worse than the other, but it should also be noted that she worked with him for longer, as she was also in Drake & Josh. Also, just because she hasn’t been open about her upbringing doesn’t mean she never faced the same form of abuse from one or more parents. Jeanette gave them her full support with the reboot, she just didn’t want to be in it. She literally told fans to support the show. She also doesn’t care if people watch the original run, either. This reboot would not be happening if Dan was the one running things, as no one wants to work with him. We know this, as he tried to revive the show a couple years back and it fell through, practically on day one. His name is listed as the show’s creator in the credits, but he’s in no way involved with the reboot. Hell, he doesn’t even receive a paycheck for it. The listing of his name is solely for legal purposes. What makes it even better is that he’s voiced his disdain for the show, and no one gives a fuck. It’s a bit disingenuous for you to claim you care so deeply for the abuse one child actor endured, only to turn around and dismiss the abuse of other child actors. Perhaps you should focus on bettering yourself and your judgemental tendencies before you come for others.

That’s very true. I feel like it would be okay if they were dealt with gently and given therapy or counselling alongside it but a lot of the time they aren’t. They’re ordered around and bossed about and while that is the director’s job, they also need to take into consideration that people- especially children- don’t usually like being told what to do constantly, and in my opinion that’s one of the many reasons it causes kids to go off the rails as they grow up. Ryan’s case is one of the saddest in my opinion. Like Eleanor says in the video several times, Ryan wasn’t a violent boy. Ryan loved his mother a lot and killed her out of what he thought was mercy, and his violence was not his own fault- not directly anyway. The effect of drugs and alcohol and substances on developing minds is horrific, and indirectly caused the heinous acts of Ryan.

On the "he was diagnosed with a mood disorder" note, I actually had the same diagnosis when I was younger. It wasn't bipolar, it existed alongside my depression and anxiety diagnosis', it was just "mood disorder." So there is a chance that he was just quite prone to mood swings without it falling into a specific diagnosis. Please take this with a grain of salt though as it's incredibly anecdotal and I'm not anywhere close to a professional, I'm just some person online
@KittyCat260
@KittyCat260 10 ай бұрын
Yes, "mood disorder" is often an umbrella term to describe something that doesn't quite meet the requirements of known syndromes. If someone is displaying markers of a mood disorder but not all of the required markers for a specific diagnosis, this is what they get. Plus "mood disorder" as a diagnosis can mean they believe the symptoms aren't going to be as permanent as a specific disorder is likely to be.

@@KittyCat260True. And that kind of diagnosis can also happen if you have all the markers of a disorder, but you can't actually be diagnosed until you turn 18. There's a few disorders like that, namely personality disorders. So sometimes they'll give you a sort of "placeholder" umbrella diagnosis because they can't actually give you the diagnosis unless you still have those symptoms as an adult.

I don't think any child psychologist would think this is how a parent should support a child. He was 9 years old when he got his first on screen acting role. Which means he was likely even younger when his mum started driving him to auditions. That does not sound like a healthy parent and child relationship. Lots of kids dream of being a movie star. If my child was interested in acting I'd suggest they join a school play or a youth theatre group. Even if he told his mum he wanted to be in a movie, a parent's job is not to blindly support their kid's dream at any cost. They have to make decisions with the child's wellbeing and development in mind. Everyone knows the entertainment industry can be pretty toxic, it's not an environment conducive to healthy childhood development. (I'm not saying his mum is to blame for all of her son's troubles and behaviours of course!)

As someone diagnosed with a non-specified mood disorder: It’s exactly what it sounds like - your moods are disregulated and sometimes unpredictable without a necessary trigger. Mood disorders include diagnoses from major depressive disorder to bipolar disorder to premenstrual dysphoric disorder (which I only recently learned) to seasonal depression. It’s a HUGE umbrella. Typically, in my experience, the generalized diagnosis (or non-specified) relates to chronic depression with bipolar tendencies (occasionally feeling great but because it’s so rare, you embrace every second of it and to the individual it can feel manic when in reality, it’s just baseline for “normal” people), but doesn’t meet the standard of a bipolar diagnosis. It’s not a fun thing to live with, but is completely manageable (even though it’s hard and absolutely requires medication and therapy). I entirely reject the notion that only a non-specified mood disorder led him to this: he must’ve had delusions or some form of psychosis to carry this out, or just was completely dissociated after years of coping. Imagine you’re sometimes so depressed you can’t get out of bed, sometimes you’re really happy, and other times you’re just “melh” - none of that is conducive to what this individual did.

I'm bipolar and my mania (unmedicated) isn't "happy". Not all manias are. Mania is classed more as an excited state than a happy one, and can cover extreme rage, psychosis, hallucinations and delusions which aren't found in the depression phases of the disorder. Mania is a really big umbrella and there's a reason it's one of the most destructive sides of bipolar. The depression is hellish but the mania is where real damage is done.

I went on a serious drug binge for 2 years after I dropped out. I had a very spotty career as a chef with undiagnosed neurodivergance. I never got help until my partner of 20 years passed away and so at 55 I finally got psychiatric help. Still unable to work, but at least I am a lot happier. I always knew my brain worked differently but I taught myself to fit in, which was *really* hard. I used to have anxiety attacks growing up just trying to talk to people like a neurotypical person and I didn't know why, but I knew I had to learn or I wouldn't be a functional adult. The thought honestly terrifies me, I kind of regret watching this video but it’s good to know about these things and to always remain cautious…

Vancouver is a rough area, I’m not even from that area but my brothers are, I’m all the way in California… one of my brothers fell into an addiction to heroin unfortunately, and he was set to go to rehab but he wanted to go out with one last bang before he did… someone laced him with a hotshot. Apparently that’s very common up in Vancouver and the whole British Columbia area /:

@@Ratpoisonbean I’m sorry to hear about your brother that’s terrifying… I also wouldn’t say that all of BC is like this, at least from my experience from living here, but Vancouver is a scary place itself, I remember constantly seeing needles on the sidewalk walking to SFU and just the multitude of homeless people right outside the school doors where there’s usually only 1 security guard stationed at the entrance of the building inside… Needless to say we had quite a few scares when homeless people / people on some strong drugs would break into the building start causing chaos in lectures and such… Really a bad area where a school should never have been placed

@@marionnel2931 I grew up in downtown Los Angeles and it’s very similar, Skidrow has actually tripled in size since I was a kid. It’s kind of sad because people glamorize LA because they only see Hollywood, but if you actually go to LA it’s nothing like the movies or TV makes it seem like. It’s also overpopulated so a lot of people end up on the streets due to inflation, losing their jobs due to the influx of people moving there and needing jobs, it’s rough. After talking to my brother that is still alive in Vancouver, we both kinda decided that downtown LA and Vancouver are both extremely similar when it comes to the drug scene and homelessness and violence.

please consider covering the bizarre disappearance of Gage Daniel and Chloie Leverette. They lived in their grandparents' home. On September 23rd 2013 a blazing house fire was put out by firefighters. The burnt remains of the elderly couple were found down in the basement lying on the floor side-by-side. Normally the basement door stayed locked because that's where his tools were kept. Missing from the home was a very large safe containing valuables. The charred remains of their beloved dog were located, and even their little yellow parakeet. BIZARRELY NO remains of the children could be located at the scene, whatsoever. Chloie and Gage have never been located to this day.

I heard this case a while ago from another true crime KZfaqr… It’s very sad for the mother, obviously as she’s the one that lost her life, & especially as she’d been fighting cancer for so long. I mean, imagine fighting so hard to stay alive, probably more for her 2 children than herself & then one of those children coldly taking your life! As much as I feel so sorry for the mother, I actually feel more sorry for the daughter/sister. Lisa has been left without her mother & her little brother, I dread to think how she must be feeling, knowing her baby brother killed their mum, the mum who brought you both up, done nothing but love & support you & the brother who was to be the one that took her life from her!! It’s gut wrenching just thinking about it, & I’m a total stranger, how must she be feeling? He didn’t want his mother to know what he was planning to do, because he didn’t want his loving mother to have to live with the hurt & shame of what her son was so hell bent on doing, so killing her seemed like the only option. What about Lisa, didn’t he care about how she would feel? Or what she would think? Or even how much pain she would be in after losing her mum & the pain of knowing her little brother done all this? I’m not sure how much information is out there about Lisa, but after watching 2 KZfaqrs tell this heartbreaking story, there doesn’t appear to be anything to say how she is, if she’s coping or even if she has any support to help her deal with the trauma of what has happened to her entire family. I feel so bad for her, I pray she is being supported by someone, maybe another member of their family, (not sure if there is anyone else)? I just hope she has someone. 💕 RIP Barbara 😢

One word…MONEY! Our criminal justice system is a for profit business (even prisons that are not privately ran) All of the facilities work w/ private businesses to make money hand over fist. Prisoners are cheap labor for the prison system to make money from and private businesses can produce their product or service on the cheap and increase profits. They claim they provide a way for prisoners to learn life and job skills which is BS. If they paid them full wages that they would hire in the free world and help teach financial responsibility maybe i would believe them. But its not about helping make prisoners better, its about using them for cheap labor and lining their pockets with more money. I could go on for hours about why the CJS is so messed up and what needs to change but, it would probably make your eyes glaze over because its a lot of info. So back to what i said up top…one word…MONEY!

This is so tragic. He killed his mom because he was going to murder other people and didnt even end up murdering anyone else. She died for no reason and his family lost what sounds like a wonderful woman. I dont think he should be let out in 2036. Hell be only 38.

I can't be the only one thinking he did this in an effort to be known for something? I mean, he wasn't entirely successful as an actor, but murdering your mother might get people talking about you again? Shock value and notoriety.
